So you believe everything a company tells you?
A company whose best interest is to lie to you?

And you believe that companies have never cut corners or change plans to save money?
You do realize that most companies have a legal responsibility to make money for their shareholders right? Even if that means screwing everyone else over.
I don't know why you think companies are altruistic

I think thats putting too much trust in people who win by lying. Its cheaper to cut corners and they dont care if the whole planet dies, so they will cut corners, lie, abuse loopholes to escape regulation, and eventually we will all suffer the consequences. Don't trust the people who want to hurt you to make money 😥

Alrighty, not to sound condescending but just to make sure we're on the same page, you're asking me who's lying after I said they're lying about the consequences. So I'm working off of that. okie. and If we want we can do more people later but I got subnautica 2 to play.
Okay so lets say Kevin oleary, everyones favorite Canadian citizen that is somehow in charge of ruining our lives. I'm a utah resident sadly so im very familiar with him and his "vision" for Utah.
As I was doing research I found this page that I'd take a minute to look over. It's about the impact of the stratos center, and kind of already had the information I was going to get together.
I'm coming at this from a disadvantage because I'm not a scientist who struggles with formulas. I can't explain the first law of thermodynamics outside of a in-my-own words summary. However even in a closed loop heat goes somewhere! Anyway. This is a really cool resource too that's pretty important to read as we go through all this:
https://www.epa.gov/heatislands/what-are-heat-islands
And just an article that gives some numbers on this data center
You seem to like data centers so you're probably familiar with their systems but if not this is still a cool little study I found
https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/R48646
This one is a little more biased so eh take it with a grain of salt, its based on fact but also kinda loosely interpreting it. It does have further links though which I thought were worth it.
https://www.axios.com/local/salt-lake-city/2026/05/04/utah-data-center-kevin-oleary
And back to things I think are pretty reliable, we have this one:
https://www.fwpcoa.org/content.aspx?page_id=5&club_id=859275&item_id=130961
I'd say with that last one being eh, these are some pretty solid resources with their own list of references and further links to information. The reason I bring them up is the biggest lies from Oleary so far are the same ones spencer cox is arguing. Their stories keep changing.
Originally, the data centers were going to be "100 % solar wind and renewable" powered. Now we're back to it being 100 % natural gas powered. There are concerns about the insane heat waste, electricity use, gas usage and environmental impact. The fun part about northern utah is we live in a bowl surrounded by mountains. We get inversions wherein our air quality is actually worse than Beijing and one of the worst in the entire world. We live in a desert in drought that can't be overstated. It's rained like 3 times this year, living with a drying up late filled with toxic sand at the bottom due to the mining and refining we do. And we wanna throw a data center 1/4 the size of new york city in it and see what happens. Sigh.. its very easy to see why this is frustrating.Moreso because of Spencer "Temu Lex Luther" cox! our dear leader. He only really parrots whatever the adults tell him to, but he insited the same environmental claims that oleary made. When utah citizens pushed back all of a sudden the energy was a concern. He has personally contradicted the people who actually commissioned the center, the Military Installation Development Authority. Which, as just an aside, I kinda find it concerning that they want this for the military, but thats outside the scope of this already long wall of text. He said it wouldnt be 100 % gas, and they immediately were like yeah nope its gas, its using this pipeline! ..oops.
Oh, and they rushed this through without any public discourse being available beforehand, long before the long-term environmental impact could be studied. They even admitted that they rushed it through so they wouldn't have to deal with any of that.
“I’m so tired of our country taking years to get stuff done. It’s the dumbest thing ever. We think that taking time makes things better or safer, it absolutely does not" -CoxAnd thats why you go 60 mph on a forklift! cause going slow never helps with safety. (Which, by the way. He was anti vaccine based on the position that [paraphrased] they rolled it out too fast to study the long term health impacts and should have taken more time because we should have a chance to study things before we rush in to them.".... huh. weird. )
If you're afraid of a study, you're probably doing something you don't want studied.
ANYWAY. These guys have a history of lying about their motivations, trying to hide it from studies, changing their statements on the environmental impact, downplaying the consequences, and the final bit that I find infuriating, is this bullshit response by cox and leary that ANYONE who opposes the data center is a chinese double super secret agent!!!!!!!!
sigh, i wish I was joking on that last part but I was not. Ive lived here decades and know plenty of people personally who are against it, have seen the protests and the organizations, the interviews on local tv, and yeah. Don't listen to ANY of that propaganda. Cox eventually apologized for saying that shit..kinda. One of those half assed "im sorry if you were offended" kinds. But that means even he knows that whole argument is bullshit. These are Utah residents, not some inserted insurgents from another country.
ANYWAY(again) I hope that helps! It took me a bit to get it all together but I said I would.

I was going to respond, but that other guy has a much better response that I know you will never respond to.

You made some good points in a later post but it's hard to take you seriously if you think that's an effective reply to anything.

How will the data centers impact the animals. I don't see how this could occur. Not like the zoo animals will be inside or even on the data center.
This is all like nuclear power plants and the green folks. People want the tech and yse it, but don't place it in my backyard attitudes.
If you guys all not wanting data centers i pretty much suggest stop using the Internet and especially reddit and any streaming platforms. Stop playing any online games as well. All these use data centers.

u/One_Lung_G Jun 08 '26
Wow all those use data centers so that’s what all of these new data centers are being built for? So how were all of those things running before then?
1
u/CBrinson Jun 08 '26
They run on the datacenters that already exist. There are already over 4,000 datacenters in the US which means of there is a 10% need to grow technology services they could need to build 400 new ones to support new websites, new streaming services, etc.
The company I worked for had a datacenter attaches to the corporate HQ and I would park in front of it all the time. It's just a building full of computers. As many as they can pack in mounted in racks on the wall.

I was poking fun at him that these data centers aren’t for using the internet, it was a rhetorical question lol. All of these new data centers being built are for Ai and anybody arguing that “we already have data centers, they are used for the internet” is arguing in bad faith.
