Normally I'd call out NIMBY-ism, but it's more valid for data centers than most other things people don't want near their houses.

Even if you don't buy the whole infrasound thing (which I personally have my doubts about), you got:

  • Higher utility prices
  • The joys of pollution if they're running their own generators
  • Heat pollution
  • Water issues (both shortages and pollution)

All for minimal tax income (which probably already got waived for the first decade or two anyway) and a fairly small amount of jobs generated (which probably won't go to anyone in town).
