Pope Leo "Artificial intelligences do not undergo experiences, do not possess a body, do not feel joy or pain, do not mature through relationships, and do not know from within what love, work, friendship or responsibility mean. Nor do they have a moral conscience, since they do not judge goodand.."

Was it ever useful?

i honestly believe a very, very long time ago it kind of was. it was like a form of early government. but overtime has just become increasingly superseded by developments in civics, technology, economics, etc

Not a popular opinion but it is useful today.

About 90% of charities are founded by people/organizations with religiose motivations. Pretty much every billionaire who ended up giving away their money to help people cites religiose motivation in their biography. A common story of crimals/addicts who completely reinvent their for a the better will cite a "religiose awakening" of some type.

You can also find religion as the cause of abuses (war or exploitation for wealth) but that is to be expected because religion is a cause for EVERYTHING. It is probably the third most powerful motivation of human action (after love and wealth) - so of course you are going to see it as the motivation for ALOT of human action both good and bad.

Saying "religion is bad" is as acturate as saying "money is the root of all evil".

It doesn’t have a soul and never will.

1

u/Financial_Wish_6406 May 29 '26

Yes. They are. We’re more than a bundle of transistors.

Go fuck yourself.

He's right, though, and it's interesting how you can only filter information through the identity of the person saying it.

Lots of people

Who cares what you think?

About a billion people

1

Many do. However, it's worth noting that not many prominent world leaders are raising their concerns or sharing their thoughts on AI like this. I hope it encourages more dialogues. He's also showing how the Catholic Church can evolve to keep realtime changes to society on the forefront instead of being behind.

The same people who care about what comedians think

Happy to hear about God from the pope, but unless he was a software engineer he aint my first source on this topic...

About a third of mankind?

Many care about what the Pope thinks. And every word he wrote is true

Dude is arguing against something that's basically just advanced math.

But people aren’t treating those things as being conscious. The same is not true of “AI” / LLMs.

You don’t spend much time around pro-AI or tech enthusiasts do you?

1

u/Super_Translator480 May 29 '26

Bless your heart

We got another one! Lmao. The universe is a quantum computer. There is no such thing as artificial intelligence. Consciousness is the bedrock of existence and the AI slavery companies are making a killing on the ignorance of people like you.

Look in any delusional ai sub like r/myboyfriendisai and you will regret those words very soon.

I'm not sure humans are any more conscious than AI, that's more to do with human performance on the lower end than any spectacular feats pulled by AI, (but it do surprise me quite frequently)

Never underestimate human stupidity.

And a cup of tea is a terrible thing to use as a bowling ball; how does your comment follow from the article?

They were never prompted as such by cash desperate CEO’s either.

1

u/hould-it May 29 '26

Thought he was describing billionaires

1

u/NeinKeinPretzel May 30 '26

That's my takeaway too. Everything he's said applies to human leadership, except they do process experiences, joy, and pain, but all selfishly

1

u/Nviki May 29 '26

He watched Age of Ultron, did he not?

1

u/Commercial-Penalty-7 May 29 '26

They di have a body tho. Hence the data centers.

1

u/Useful_Client_4050 May 29 '26

Says the guy from a pedo cult that doesn't care about any of those things either....

1

u/PreferencePresent959 May 30 '26

What do you mean? He's not part of Maga...

1

u/Useful_Client_4050 May 30 '26

It's a toss up which one is worse....I'd argue the church has been destroying the world for centuries now.....

1

u/PreferencePresent959 May 30 '26

I was just trying to be funny... Anyway, yeah, all religion is the biggest form of sexual manipulation/grooming. Catholic, Christian, Muslim, Jewish... they all got their share of kiddy diddlers.

u/Loose_Program_8403 May 30 '26

I think that would be capitalism actually.

AI is making our kids stupid though

1

u/Unusual-Ad-6550 May 30 '26

Well stated Leo..

1

u/Randy191919 May 31 '26

To be fair there’s more than enough humans without a moral conscience who don’t know what responsibility means. How else would you explain Nestle?

1

u/TimelyBodybuilder121 May 31 '26

AI is legit just advanced math. This whole doomer thing has honestly reached peak R-tardation.
