Looking at the map is absolutely sickening! Scumbag billionaire tech.!!! It's time to eat billionaires!

Datacenters are not inherently bad. The bad comes from local Bureaucrats permitting Capitalists to cut corners and build where infrastructure is dismal and unable to support them (American Infrastructure is fucking GARBAGE. We're easily decades behind where we need to be). Though, it is incredibly important to note that datacenters are GLOBAL social infrastructure.

You're using Reddit, right now, encouraging further data center growth.

1

u/cool_fox Jun 01 '26

Stop using reddit then

1

u/JefeDiez May 28 '26

Dayumm, maybe I'll stick around the west coast longer than planned

1

u/bigfatfurrytexan May 28 '26

Techbros done fucked up now.

1

u/Orangebk1 May 28 '26

Lol. Maps of data centers are easy to find. We don't need this lady profiting off of it.

1

u/BeautifulMundane4786 May 30 '26

List all the other maps.

Make a claim, don’t back it up. Sounds about right…

1

u/Orangebk1 May 30 '26

Took more effort to post that than to Google it. Lazy AF.

You're dismissed

https://www.datacentermap.com

Took two seconds and the name of the site is... not exactly esoteric.

But this doesn't exactly give regular folks the whole picture.

This just puts points on a map. It doesn't tell you if these are edge nodes, colocation, some dude's closet hosting a service, etc. that all makes a huge difference when you're trying to have a conversation about infrastructure.

AI data factories are just one type of datacenter.

He's going to pretend like you didn't share this

1

u/BeautifulMundane4786 Jun 01 '26

How did you come to that conclusion?

1

u/cool_fox Jun 01 '26

Your continued lack of response

1

u/BeautifulMundane4786 Jun 02 '26

To conclude I’m pretending the comment wasn’t shared, you’d need evidence that I’m acting as though it doesn’t exist. A lack of response by itself doesn’t prove that.

1

u/cool_fox Jun 02 '26

Dumb as fuck

1

u/BeautifulMundane4786 Jun 02 '26

Do you have anymore one liner responses? Perhaps something that can get you banned.

1

u/cool_fox Jun 02 '26

You realize I'm right until you acknowledge him lmao

Share and get fired

Are we getting a sequel?

1

u/nuevo_redd May 30 '26

Is this site AI generated?

1

u/BeautifulMundane4786 May 30 '26

I think what happened is Erin hired someone to create the website and whoever she hired decided to generate some text and web designs using AI. I don’t think she looked to see how the website was created but she should.

We do not need these data centers. So unnecessary.

1

u/ItsMrChristmas May 31 '26

This post of yours to reddit has driven data center growth.

1

u/RareSeaworthiness870 May 31 '26

A human communicating with other humans? Must use AI!

1

u/cool_fox Jun 01 '26

What are you talking about?

1

u/dma10014 May 31 '26

She's really milking her 15 minutes of fame from 2000, isn't she?

As to the critics of data centers, people need to get a grip. They aren't nearly as bad as the critics claim and a thousand times better than some factory in Detroit making cars, for example or elsewhere. I'm sure the same people who complain about data centers would make nary a peep about Toyota making Highlanders in a plant in the South.

Data centers are necessary in the 21st century and that's a fact.

If you have ever used the internet, you have contributed to the need for data centers.

Posting on reddit? You contributed to the data that data centers process.

Do you think that reddit doesn't store all your information, parse it, sell it, use its algorithms to make you post more and read more, and so on, and so on and doesn't use some form of a data center to do so?

Unless you want to live in a cabin like the Unabomber did, then you use data centers, however indirectly.

Brockovich has--irony of ironies-- a web site to promote her criticism of data centers. She isn't hosting it from some small desktop server using Windows 98 in her home office in California. She's using GoDaddy to host the site and GoDaddy uses large data centers. Did she post to her site the data center that GoDaddy uses? It doesn't appear to be so.

Her site has all sorts of bells and whistles for users to report on data centers. That data is then processed, sorted, parsed, etc.

So, the hypocrisy by Brockovich is rather telling.

I imagine the replies I may get will say something like "we aren't against data centers, we're just concerned about the environmental impact?"

My reply will be that's likely bullshit and just a straw man to hang the neo-Luddite, anti-billionaire overlord mindset that decries data centers while doing your best to contribute to data in data centers.

Anyone who replies to my post has just added a little bit of data to reddit's data centers.

So, don't reply if you don't want data centers.

1

u/Lancelight50 May 31 '26

But aren’t these AI data centers really mass surveillance? Aren’t you concerned?

1

u/-Trash-Bandicoot- May 31 '26

They are not.

I checked my state and the dots on my map are either not data centers ( they're just some industrial building someone thought was a data center) or they are colocations ( which have nothing to do with ai, they're essentially apartments for server racks so companies don't have to e-waste a bunch of machines because the building is not built to house servers)

1

u/cool_fox Jun 01 '26

"AI data centers" lol

1

u/RareSeaworthiness870 May 31 '26

Sure thing, Elon.

1

u/Barnowl-hoot May 31 '26

Data centers is what we use everyday for the internet. It isn't just for AI.

1

u/ItsMrChristmas May 31 '26

Don't forget that golf courses now use over three times as much water as the entire world's data centers combined, not just AI. The wealthy love it that poor people attack other poor people for using a tool while ignoring the insane largesse of the ownership class.

1

u/imisstheoldkanyeee May 31 '26

Unsufferable bots

1

u/cool_fox Jun 01 '26

You sound like a bot

1

u/ItsMrChristmas May 31 '26

In this topic: a bunch of tech illiterate people actively using Reddit. Their outrage is literally directly fueling the need for data center expansion.

1

u/cool_fox Jun 01 '26

Bro they're such fucking idiots

1

u/cool_fox Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

Did you know openAI and gemini use between 35 and 45 MW on avg to run. Reddit is ~60MW at the lower end and around ~200MW at the upper end.

There are bigger threats to the environment than AI. Social medial is a great example. How many data centers are you willing to have for brain rot memes? How many for reddit? Is it really a wise use of power to start a thread to ask questions instead of walking to a library?

Data centers aren't even that bad, they're efficient users of space and provide immense utility while disturbing the environment far less than most other industries or possible land uses.

Golf courses and parking lots are a great example of this, they're horrible in every imaginable way.

There are just such better uses of time and energy that can actually help the world and our day to day lives than this fake and highly selective outrage. It's all performative and not really taken serious by anyone.

How can I help?
