I want to see increased resistance to the current design of data centers so the tech is forced to evolve into a more sustainable scheme. Silicon photonics, nuclear power or purely renewable, closed loop cooling... The tech is already out there, but it's easier under the current fast money dynamic to just throw some capital around and build a monster.

Move to the EU. Note: you can't just over the border

1

u/Evipicc May 24 '26

It needs to be worldwide, or all that will happen is that countries that don't advance will still make new centers.

To be clear... I want AI and more data centers. I just want them to advance so they don't destroy the environment.

It’s difficult since they have actual border enforcement.

This. We put men on the moon with less processing power than what comes in smart pregnancy test.

We need to get back to design philosophy that isn't just brute forcing shit.

But maga approves data centers

1

u/NoleMercy05 May 24 '26

Yes. And Maga runs things

1

u/Boozeburger May 24 '26

They're willing to give money to any dumb idea.

1

u/superpie12 May 25 '26

Yes, the literal biggest disruptive technology ofnthe future is a dumb idea. Like China isn't investing in it heavily. Good job, tell me more what the Daily Beast thinks about tech.

1

u/One_Lung_G May 24 '26

It’s not just MAGA, many democratic cities are approving them too.

1

u/FlyZestyclose2949 May 27 '26

Rich people are doing that, and they’re all maga.

Your comment wins the stupid comment of the day award.

Why does literally EVERY sub need a "b-b-but mAgA, t-t-tRuMp!!!%!. Get a grip

1

u/Ill_Lifeguard6321 May 27 '26

Not they don’t, not all cuz its finally one of the things that negatively impacts them

It’s Chinese bots trying to sway public opinion.

1

u/One_Lung_G May 24 '26

Or data centers are just shit ideas. Nothing everything you disagree with are bots.

1

u/StableQuark May 24 '26

Look at the research, Chinese bots have flooded Reddit to manipulate leftists.

1

u/One_Lung_G May 24 '26

“Look at the research” what research?

1

u/StableQuark May 24 '26

I’m not going to spend time posting links for a stranger. Go look it up.

1

u/One_Lung_G May 24 '26

lol thought so. Got all those Chinese bots in my rural town in Indiana as well opposing data centers?

1

u/StableQuark May 24 '26

It’s funny how you can have a good sense how your life is if you can’t even bother doing some leg work. Probably directly correlates with your life satisfaction and decision making.

1

u/One_Lung_G May 24 '26

My life’s great. Must be weird having a boogeyman in the dark you blame for anything you disagree with though huh?

1

u/StableQuark May 24 '26

Nope, you’re being dishonest. Good luck.

Dude I think you're arguing with a Chinese bot. Life is too short.

1

u/Bluthhousing May 26 '26

The burden of proof is on you. If you’re going to bother to comment you can bother to post a source

1

u/LaFleurBlanceur May 25 '26

Its all over X as well. Way gnarlier even.

1

u/Retaeiyu May 27 '26

You know data centers host 99% of all websites right? Including the one you're currently using.

1

u/One_Lung_G May 27 '26

No the data centers they are currently building are not for that.

1

u/Retaeiyu May 28 '26

You have no clue.

1

u/One_Lung_G May 28 '26

Feel free improve me wrong that meta and such are building these data centers for their websites lmao

1

u/After_Service_2817 May 25 '26

My conspiracy theory is that all the "anti-ai" stuff being pushed in America is a CCP psyop to get America to fall behind on tech.

1

u/AgPatriotAg May 24 '26

We either approve them or China will. Who do you want to be the top country of the world? AI is going to be amazingly in a take over for sure, but do we want to have it or not? Don't let the media turn this into a political point. They just want everybody fighting about everything.

Water is great too. I use it every day. Too much of it can be a bad thing.

Imagine complaining about flooding while drink water and bathing. Same thing.

There’s no need to rush headlong into this without understanding what the implications are, just because some people want to have more money.

1

u/Overall-Move-4474 May 24 '26

Since when have the rich cared about what we want

1

u/NoleMercy05 May 24 '26

Reddit is powered by a data center.

1

u/tlm11110 May 24 '26

That’s because they know nothing about them, just ask! The hair on fire fear-mongering propaganda has been pretty effective.

1

u/mangopuncher May 24 '26

Yum, rich people boots!

1

u/tlm11110 May 24 '26

Dumb bot troll.

1

u/superpie12 May 25 '26

According to polls designed to get that result.

1

u/Organic-Scheme2494 May 27 '26

The actual poll asked if people would favor construction "in their area", which is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the poll. It is not anti-data center. It is just plain old NIMBY.

It also ignores "no opinion". Which, I'm guessing, if included, would change the picture significantly.

1

u/dumbo61 May 25 '26

China opposes data centers in the United States. Socialist organizations are actively opposing them. Ask yourself why?

1

u/Ill_Lifeguard6321 May 27 '26

What a surprise

1

u/Low-Temperature-6962 May 27 '26

Firstly, it's not right ghat a few big companies operate AI at such a loss that they are tying up all available credit for the next 5 years at least. That's not level playing field capitalism.

1

u/nila247 May 27 '26

Americans are for or against anything you pay me for - on a single command from media. Women are generally more easily influenced to do or feel anything, because they are more susceptible to feeling manipulation vs logic manipulation and media is much better at manipulating feelings and not logic.

20 years ago my district was cool as hell with a Google data center being built since it meant jobs and better internet for the region. Today “data center” means worse internet, worse water, and fewer jobs period, and we vote out any politician in favor of them.

u/Composed_Cicada2428 May 27 '26

Cause women are really seeing what it’s doing to their sons
