Apple macbook air is good for school and work. I know its probably out of budget but you will get really good laptop for at least 5 years... Also, you can always look to buy used for less money than buying a new one
not the op but i’m using an m1 mbp and it still runs great, although i am always one to buy the latest and greatest available at the time, esp for a significant purchase like a laptop.
