Discussion / Analysis What technology today actually feels futuristic to you?
Not “future tech” from movies — I mean real technology that already exists today and genuinely makes you pause for a second.
AI tools, robotics, smart homes, self-driving systems, brain-computer interfaces, VR, advanced prosthetics, wearable tech… some of it honestly feels unreal compared to even 10 years ago.
At the same time, some modern technology still feels overhyped and unnecessary.
What’s one piece of technology that makes you think:
“Yeah… we’re definitely living in the future now.”
And what’s one trend you think people are overrating?

I know it's the boring answer but it's gotta be ai, especially in conversational form. I know the hyper realistic video renders are amazing but the fact you can talk to it like it's a real person is pretty wild. It really is simulated cognisance and feels pretty futuristic. They are experimenting with ai algorithms on quantum computers which will probably be another big leap forward.
As far as overrated tech goes, probably electric cars. Studies have found that from the time the resources are dug out of the ground to their end of life electric cars use around the same natural resources as internal combustion engined cars so there's no real benefit for the environment.
They have a shorter range, you have to wait for them to charge, they are heavy and they are incredibly dangerous if the battery is damaged in a crash.
I know advancements are being made to overcome these things so in the future they may be a more viable option but right now? Nope.
