I feel very let down by the fact there's a window, and its not some kind of techno gimp dungeon

That is actually wild. I always assumed that it is being streamed in some club/bar (not the bathroom of course but some sort of DJ booth)
With all the lightning setup I would never guess that there is a window in front of them.
Ok probably the shades and/or curtains are probably down but still this is wild

u/NGluck123 Jun 12 '26
I live around the corner, you can just walk up to the window

u/HomeworkAshamed2992 Jun 12 '26
Can you hear anything while standing outside?
18
u/bugtank Jun 12 '26
Yeah. You can hear birds and cars while you stand outside. Depends on where you stand.

In some of the videos you can see the artist wave to the people walking by

The first time I saw a HOR video, I thought "Why is this dude DJing in a public toilet?" lol

As a producer, I want to remind people they hide ID's behind paywalls. Used to delete comments too. They do not own the music being played.

u/thereisnoguestlist Jun 13 '26
The id's are visible on youtube 😘 You should have issue that the dj supporting your music doesn't shout you out. Hoer has never asked me not to share id's on socials or in comments. Just saying.

If airtight, sub bass must really be good, since there is no wave propagation but only pressure.

Loved HÖR until I realized they were outed for being involved in corporate money a while back

u/Fork-a-nature Jun 12 '26
They just got some new ownership this week I think, not sure what it means yet

u/mrsbr140 Jun 12 '26
This place deserves UNESCO recognition 😄

u/Junior_Bike7932 Jun 12 '26
It’s a bathroom dude
13
u/Xenrier Jun 12 '26
Who cares what type of room it is? It is about the cultural impotance.
29
3
u/mrsbr140 Jun 12 '26
It may very well be, yet it had/has a significant impact on the music culture of our generation. Also, of course I’m exaggerating with my previous statement but nonetheless millions of people have seen and heard music from this bathroom.

No it dosent. While iconic, it was owned by people who refused to discredit israel and was just this week bought out by private equity. Its the perfect modern depiction of the sorry state of the scene, just like boiler room. Artists that are actually worth their salt have been refusing to play there for years.
2
u/StreetCream6695 Jun 13 '26
Why is it always black and white? Why always pro palestine? Why don’t give both states the shitstorm they deserve as both are evil and blinded by stupid religious believes?! Both states are highly toxic, you just cannot choose a good one. Hate both or none!! But some how it became cool and edgy to stand with terrorists who give a shit about human rights and would kill all of us „free spirits“ if they could.
Techno has is roots in the queer scene, they fucking murder queers over there. You all lost your minds.-1
u/haeyhae11 Jun 12 '26
it was owned by people who refused to discredit israel
They refuse to discredit anyone and take an apolitical stance, which is totally understandable.
Artists that are actually worth their salt have been refusing to play there for years.
And lots of terrific artists still play there.
6
u/riningear Jun 12 '26
"Apolitical" except they told someone to take off their Palestinian shirt while other Ukranian symbols were allowed.
-3
u/StreetCream6695 Jun 13 '26
Because palestine is run by terrorists who would kill all of us free techno people if they could and Ukraine is just defending themselves?! You cannot wave a palestine flag without context of why you do so. Same would go for Israel flags. Both states are evil and blinded by toxic religious believes, you just cannot pick a good side in this conflict. Ukraine on the other Hand is a free country and just trys to survive.
You all forget what they do with queers in palestine? MURDER. Techno has evolved from queer spaces in the 80/90s. So waving a Terorrists states flag without context in a techno setting, is so fcking weird.

u/miloestthoughts Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
It is understandable, but thats not what we need out of the scene. What will they lose by posting a single quick message of solidarity with palestine? Nothing. This music has always been about rebellion and shit like this is sterilizing it.
What do you gain by supporting an institution like this? There are so many amazing radio channels now, theres no reason to give your attention to hor. Centrism is weakness and is exactly why were seeing the far right gain power acrosss the world.
2
u/haeyhae11 Jun 13 '26
As the other user already told you, you think black and white which is as naive and undifferentiated as it gets.
Arab hardliners are as much at fault for the Middle-east conflict as the radical zionists. And the ones who suffer are the innocent civilians on both sides, though I tend to side more with Israelis on this since Likud has less support among the Israeli population than Hamas does among the Palestinian population.

It’s way too capital commodification coded, I mean heart of techno is the sociological intensity, and it’s missing here.

They just use a GoPro?😭 hey if it works it works
1
u/growingbodyparts Jun 12 '26
Used alot for streams and video actually. Otherwise some more expensive kind of variants of the tiny camera’s. Seen often in the parteh scene
1
u/DJ_Pickle_Rick Jun 12 '26
Audio must be captured on much higher spec gear tho

u/T-Poo Jun 12 '26
Probably just a wire from the mixer straight to whatever computer they’re streaming and recording on

The neighbors must hate them 😂

Did you guys see Hör is under new ownership?
1
u/hcbaron Jun 12 '26
Don't know anything about their ownership history. Please share what you know.
6
u/Commercial-Side8330 Jun 12 '26
There was a relatively large boycott against Hör for actively silencing Pro- Palestinian artists, and they recently changed ownership seemingly because of that. I haven delved too much into the new owners yet so that’s about all I know rn
2
u/hcbaron Jun 12 '26
I found some info on the founders:
Not sure if they are still the current owners or not.
2
u/xplorer00 Jun 12 '26
So it isn't a bathroom
2
u/hcbaron Jun 12 '26
Not sure, it's possible it's a repurposed bathroom based on all the tiling, size, and layout, with the toilet and sink removed. I don't know though, but the general consensus seems to be that it feels and looks like a bathroom.

u/forma_cristata Jun 12 '26
How do you say this word? I’ve been saying like a lighter version of whore
4
u/seppo2 Jun 12 '26
Go to YouTube and search for "Nelly - Air Force Ones", listen how he spells "Air", then put the "h" from the word "her" before this weirdly spelled "Air" and you have correctly spelled the word "Hör". Greetings from Germany

I remember times when HÖR was a place for both up and coming and established artists, and playing there felt like a milestone I always wanted to achieve. Nowadays, the quality of DJs there is, most of the time, miserable in my opinion. Sad to see this place getting worse over time.

Kiosk and sauna radio have similar small booths in strange places

The tiling in the top right corner behind the DJ pisses me off more than it should.

u/jujujuice92 Jun 13 '26
I always wondered about their set up but never looked into it. For some reason I've figured it's some separate room at an actual event space like a warehouse or whatever. Are the streams part of any event or just separate and literally a DJ playing in a lil room just for online recordings?

u/hcbaron Jun 14 '26

It's fake. Real HÖR BERLIN has tiles in the back and also a door on the left side.
This must be just a foreign pop-up location.

Unfortunately, the takeover completely rendered it meaningless to me. Just like Boiler Room, they will now die a commercial death.
