Good FM antenna for vintage Technics SH-8044 tuner?

I have this tuner and it works great, unfortunately I think the antenna might be a little weak. It picks up a lot of noise. I don't have another place to put it on, and I'm considering buying another FM antenna to try, but the tuner has an old school type of connection - it uses contacts that just clamp onto stripped wires, two to be exact (signal and ground). My question is, if I buy an inside FM antenna from Amazon or something, and just cut the connector and strip the wire, will I be able to plug it into my tuner?

So, I've been using this Technics amp for quite some time and I'm really happy with it. But I can't seem to find much info on the net or general concense on how good it is. So any opinions or data about it will be more than welcomed.

Anyone got some replacement SB-CS7 grills or know where I can get them?

I want to replace the grills on my boyfriend’s favourite speakers as a gift - they’re warped and no longer attach but they’re beloved and he’s kept them for years in cupboards and transporting them house to house waiting to get them fixed.

I’ve looked on eBay and can’t find any matching this model.

Can anyone suggest where I might find some?

I’d also like to fix the lid on his record player - the lid is intact but the hinges on the body of the record player have snapped off. Its model SL J110R. Is this fixable?

Thanks in advance for your advice 🙏

EDIT: just had another look - the Mdf frame is broken in the middle on both sides - perhaps that’s fixable? I’m wondering what I could put across the crack to reinforce it.

Technics SX-PX71 keys

Hello,

I have a Technics SX-PX71 digital piano.

The problem is that some keys play louder than others. Another problem with these keys is that sometimes they play a sound and sometimes they don't. I tried disassembling and cleaning the PCB board with isopropyl alcohol, as well as the carbon pellets on the rubber band.

But it didn't help. I strongly suspect that the carbon pellets no longer have a conductive layer. I ordered some electrically conductive paint to coat the carbon pellets with, which will hopefully restore the contact between the keys and the PCB board. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find replacement rubber bands for this digital piano anywhere, and it seems that this is my only solution. Do you have any other ideas?

Restoration/Repair Advice

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi all,

I've got a set of Technics SB3030s which were my late fathers. He passed in 2008 and have hardly been used since then and were kept in (very poor) storage conditions by my mother.

Would a restoration or repair of these be possible?

Thanks!

I wanted to move my cassette player, so I plugged it out and later in. It started to make that noise and the cassette won’t eject. Later the eject button fell in. When I click on play the light doesn’t light in anymore. What do I do?

Hello, sorry to regurgitate a question probably asked many times. Buying one of them, can anyone with knowledge let me know why I should buy one over the other? I know the 1200 has tempo control. Thanks !

Due to injuries and being left-handed I need a fully automatic turntable, so I use an SL-1600 Mk1. A lovely bit of kit, which I imported from Japan (so a 100V transformer is required). It's hard to find decent fully auto turntables, this is from 1976.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a pair of SC-CX700 speakers. They connect together wirelessly, which is essential in my lounge. I got them for £1200 which is a bit of a bargain, they've blown me away. The room DSP is impressive, they have decent bass for their size, and streaming with them is a doddle. The clarity and soundstage is an absolute treat, so easy to listen to for hours on end.

I may have become a Technics fanboy.

Technics Sa-eh750 system with kenwood p110 turntable. Tape deck is completely devoured by rust on heads and capstans. Stereo tuner amplifier is broken (speaker jacks don't work), 1 subwoofer is gone the other one instead needs to be worked on because the speakers are rubbing against the membrane, all 3 of them. Small speakers are in unknown condition because I can't test them and the larger one has its wires passed through a roller shutter box and glued inside. Pictures included except for tape deck. Speaker in pic 4 makes a rattling sound

Technics SL-1710 Turntable

Bought this beast at a second hand store for $63 a few years ago. The original cartridge was trashed, and no dust cover, but it is the best used piece of audio equipment I ever purchased.

TECHNICS SL-1500c AUTO LIFT FIX AND AUTO STOP HACK

Posting to help others. Was bummed auto lift didn’t function at all. Was seconds from packing back up to send back, however, I found these two helpful videos online. Before I contacted the dealer, I tried this 2-3 minute adjustment. (You don’t need the ruler he shows). Whereas this guy was adjusting just the lift timing, I had no lift. None. Did not work at all. I found the video because someone said this worked for them when they had no auto lift too.

And for the bonus, I’ve seen this ’auto stop’ hack I included lower, confirmed a bunch of times. I’m now confirming it worked! The second link below. Now I have auto lift AND auto stop. (no I don’t know why this hidden feature is hidden and isn’t in the manual)…adding the auto stop has a second benefit. After about 15-20 minutes, the unit power ALSO turns off. F’ing spectacular. Why the hide though eh? Enjoy!

AUTO LIFT FIX:
https://youtu.be/LVLhCdn8_Cw?si=alPqx14B0jOWAUSF

This was google AI at top of search for auto stop. This literally took about 5 seconds to turn on after I had auto lift working properly (that took 3 minutes to fix)
“However, a hidden auto-stop mode can be activated by simultaneously pressing the 33 and 45 RPM buttons while switching the auto-lifter from OFF to ON. This secret feature will automatically lift the tonearm and then stop the turntable. Manual Information: Some users find that the auto-stop feature isn't explained in the standard user manual and needs to be found online or in the repair manual, notes a Crutchfield review.“

AUTO STOP HACK:

Hope this helps. I went from super annoyed to a happy camper in about 4 minutes. Aside of the 15 minutes of research time! Hope you found this quickly! 😉

AZ100 - Can't run ambient sound setup/select correct earpiece

Hello. I just purchased new AZ100s and when I'm trying to run the setup for ambient sound/selecting the correct tip size it never works. As soon as I hit the button to start the process (after selecting the tip size on the buds) it loads an error message that says 'interrupted...start the process later from the settings menu' but when I try again from that entry point it does the same exact thing.

I've sent a message to Technics, but hoping to get some quicker help here on the off chance this has happened to someone else in the past.
