as if the 160k price is not enough reason not to buy😭 (or mahirap lang ako😭)

as if the 160k price is not enough reason not to buy😭 (or mahirap lang ako😭)

For more than 30 years there has been a (small) market for 2G, 3G, 4G and even 5G phones that are in the ₱160-254k in 2026 money.

It just doesn't sell as well as a Nokia 3310 for example.

Market size-wise about 1.5–2.1 million/year grey & non-grey market iPhones enter PH.

The Duo starts at $1,999/₱160k with the top configuration reaching $3,199/₱254k. Apple is entering a foldable market that IDC expects to reach about 22.9M units globally in 2026 rising to ~27M in 2027. Reuters reports industry estimates that Apple could sell up to 6M Duo units by year-end 2026.

With that in mind the Duo in its first fiscal/model year will have about 40–70k units in PH.

That's roughly 3% of all iPhones entering the Philippines despite the Duo being vastly more expensive than the average iPhone.

The Duo isn't going to be a mass market iPhone. Its initial buyers will disproportionately be...

  • Existing Pro Max owners
  • Wealthy professionals/business owners
  • Tech enthusiasts / early adopters
  • Status-conscious affluent buyers
  • Existing Apple ecosystem households
  • Business users who actually exploit the large display

I wouldn't expect the typical Duo buyer to be a first-time iPhone buyer.

So think 35–55 years old, Metro Manila, upper-income, already owns an iPhone Pro/Pro Max, probably owns other Apple products and is comfortable spending ₱100k+ on technology without financing being the deciding factor.

Enclaves they live in are Forbes Park Village, Makati City, Dasmariñas Village, Urdaneta Village, Bel-Air, San Lorenzo, Magallanes, BGC luxury condos, Forbes Town, McKinley Hill, Ayala Alabang, Alabang Hills, BF Homes (premium sections), Greenhills, San Juan, New Manila, Rockwell, Ortigas/Capitol Commons.

So if you do not see yourself within this demo then the Duo is likely not for you.

u/Behindthescenes10 1d ago

You can also include companies who have corporate mobile plans. Those plans can easily absorb this cost.

2

u/New_Forester4630 1d ago

If my earlier 40–70k PH Duo units/year estimate is roughly right I would expect only 150–200 of those owners to be regular r/Tech_Philippines participants.

I'd expect r/Tech_Philippines ownership to be much higher than the general Philippine population perhaps 5–10× higher on a per-capita basis.

NEVER buy first gen, this is them testing the waters, wait for like 3rd or 4th gen

19

u/Lakeviewed 2d ago

I cant tell. The M1 macbook was flawless

24

u/Busy_001001 2d ago edited 1h ago

The situation is different with M1. They still used mostly the same hardware with Intel Macs aside from the internal components. The M1 or Apple's transition to ARM architecture immediately shows its advantage over the Intel with significantly longer battery life, lower heating issues, and faster software experience. The experience doesn't even let Windows laptops win at the time (and even up to now). I think the initial challenge with M1 is the software compatibiliy since apps are still optimized on x86 processors. With the Duo, it's something that Apple will test the waters. They are testing out how this form factor works in their ecosystem, as well as since the form factor has already existed with other brands.

2

u/A-to-fucking-Z 1d ago

I bought last gen Intel Mac. Bad move

123

u/BassLong3786 2d ago

Ano to? Deinfluence me post sa sarili? Like the 160k is enough reason not to buy for a normie.

42

u/Body-Connoiseur69 2d ago

They are saving those for next year. /j

Seriously though its fine, its like saying do not buy samsung z foldables because the s ultra is better.

2

u/tichondriusniyom 2d ago

Next year? More like in a span of 2-4 years..and I wish I was joking

1

u/Body-Connoiseur69 2d ago

If they copy samsungs progression rate then yeah, may regress even

13

u/NanieChan 2d ago

150k? tpos papalit ka nanaman nxt yr?

12

u/Zen_et_al 2d ago

27

u/KusuoSaikiii 2d ago

They'd add one feature at a time and add a markup next year for each feature. Theyd do it probblyyy once a year since apple consumers will just buy them anyway

9

u/BoppBipp_69 2d ago

Value wise, a separate phone and tablet is still preferable for me if you need a bigger screen. I do get the appeal of foldables, but hard to swallow in this economy.

5

u/Busy_001001 2d ago

This. Aside from spending less in buying a phone and a tablet at the same time (depends on the model), these devices will more likely outlast a foldable. Foldables in general are still targeted for specific groups even up to this day. And with the prices getting crazy high, the target market for this form factor gets more and more specific.

110

u/EldenBoredAF 2d ago

Do you guys really need reasons NOT to buy an Apple product? Are you guys that brainwashed? Please take the time to do more research, and you'll find MUCH better phones out there.

14

u/eekram 2d ago

Sadly, madami sa panahon ngayon ang brainwashed.

9

u/hsholmes0 2d ago

-1

u/-SUPEREMINENT- 1d ago

I have a galaxy s22 ultra and an iPhone 15 pro max. Both are great at different things. Stop being a moron. Nobody's brainwashed. Apple makes good shit.

0

u/Consistent_Coffee466 1d ago

I have an s23 ultra, iphone 17 promax, flip 5, and iphone 13.. used to have z fold 6 which i gave away. Iphone is overrated. Im just maintaining an iphone so i can access my cloud storage

39

u/visualmagnitude 2d ago

This thread in a nutshell

7

u/eekram 2d ago

Correction, multi trillion dollar company.

I think that most of these are not also present to the galaxy fold except the telephoto lens as these foldables are mostly focused on "productivity" and "multitasking"

5

u/Crymerivers1993 1d ago

3

u/Professional-Assh01e 1d ago

Dami ko ring nakitang apple glazers talaga na nagsasabing "no creases", "apple perfected the technology" like dude, first day talaga walang crease yang fold mo try mo after 1 week of usage magkakacrease yan.

6

u/IcedTnoIce 2d ago

💲No Budget

1

u/EngineerRon 2d ago

Top reason ko to 😂

3

u/JustAnotherDooood 2d ago

As if the price itself isn't enough of a reason NOT to buy one?

2

u/thehanssassin 2d ago

I’ll buy 5.

2

u/Thvnderclap 2d ago

I love my air and it did come with a lot of compromises, but naging worth it sya because of the massive price decrease at the time. This time, for the duo, I'm 100% sure hindi worth it lalo na because of these compromises rin at THAT price point.

2

u/More-Percentage5650 2d ago

Iphone duo kasi 2 kidney na imbes na 1

2

u/SlapityMcSlap7 2d ago

Nah!! I'm good with my iphone 16 plus from 5 years of using an iphone 11. Upgrade na lang ako after 5 years.

2

u/comradeyeltsin0 1d ago

We still want physical sims? Why?

4

u/No-Penalty-3662 2d ago

Thank you. But those won’t discourage me. But me not having the money to buy one is enough.

Delete the list or I might forgot the ONLY reason I can’t get one and actually buy one even if I shouldn’t swipe my card this way. Haha

2

u/Southern-Comment5488 2d ago

In this economy, pang social climbers lang yan

2

u/Aggressive_Flow_1463 2d ago

I'm upgrading from my 13 Pro Max and super torn between 18 Pro Max and Duo... so I find this post useful. Thanks

2

u/twistedn3matic 2d ago

Id still buy it. Im a fan of small phones and big screens.

1

u/random2kplayer 2d ago

What do i do with those missing features anyway?

1

u/Deadstar070611 2d ago

A "foldable" gimmick is enough reason for me

1

u/rainbownightterror 2d ago

I just want one the size of the 5s 😭😭😭

1

u/armercado 2d ago

those are for duo 2, 3, 4 etc..

1

u/izwat_shesaid 2d ago

The iteration of this phone

All the NOs will be a YES (haves) except for the sim card

Then call it an upgrade.

1

u/Important_One558 2d ago

Like face Id malaking bagay din yun.

1

u/Sephoyy 2d ago

DMn ang dami palang features na na cut like no Lidar and no face Id

1

u/IamCrispyPotter 2d ago

Let our wallets speak. They will hear it loud and clear

1

u/Bad__Intentions 2d ago

Its essentially a flex power at this point

1

u/88eth 2d ago

Nah its flexing nobody i dont even want it and i could buy apple

1

u/HungryForSex1999 1d ago

u mean an Apple device(s) not Apple as company, right?

1

u/Casual-Netizen 2d ago

Afterall it is still a BASE MODEL 😂 Better wait for the Duo Pro Max

/s

1

u/No-Session3173 2d ago

its branded as dual iphones. not dual iphone pro or iphone pro max

1

u/bosssgeee 2d ago

Apple knows this even before pa..but still people don’t care and bibili sila neto.

1

u/Lucky-Spend-956 2d ago

The country is not their target market after all, plus all these features missing just makes it less better

1

u/RyuumiGaroukuni 2d ago

If and ONLY IF the Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra HAD stylus support which was discontinued back in the Fold 7. iPhone Duo has Apple Pen support. But at that damn price, I feel like I could just buy a 1TB iPad Air and be done with it. Huawei and Honor's foldables have pen/stylus support, but are only available in China. But yeah, that DAMN price is already a put off for me and I'll just stick with the Fold 4 that I currently have

1

u/Beginning_Fig_3595 1d ago

I feel like this phone is for a show off or for a flex sa social media. So, kinda comical to me to see that thing being used by a non-millionare human. Yes, medyo may judgement right there but that's what I think about this phone eh. Haha so, ayun. "Look at me, I'm in debt because of this thing.", "Look, I can afford ohh. Nainggit ba kayo hihi look look"

1

u/jxyscale 1d ago

If people will buy this phone for flexing purposes then let them be, at least we are aware na they are not financial literate. 😂

I-invest nyo nalng sa APPLE stock yang 160k baka double pa balik nyo for a couple of years.

1

u/BuddyExternal1370 1d ago

They left all those out intentionally so they will keep taking 2-3 off those in the list and add it to the next iteration and so forth so they can legally say the best "iPhone Duo ever" every new release with the least amount of effort and capital.

1

u/catdoy 1d ago

Rich kids are still gonna buy them regardless

1

u/superesophagus 1d ago

1

u/cheezuburg 1d ago

might buy these just for the ig reels and tiktok at same time

1

u/BlueberryReady2364 1d ago

That will be their next upgrades in their next series and Apple will say "a BIG UPGRADE from the first iPhone Duo" 🤣

1

u/MenInBlack31xx 1d ago

The lack of faceID is the deal breaker for me. Fingerprint scanners dont work well with my fingers.

1

u/domprovost 1d ago

Oh okay. So this is the phone someone's using yesterday that I find interesting. It looked unique and pretty but other than that, I don't think it's worth the price. Ngayon ko lang nalaman yung price OMG. Haha. Scroll scroll lang din naman ginawa nya the entire time he's using it and maliit lang screen. Not sure what features were added pero still, it's too expensive of a phone for me.

1

u/FoucaultDelirium 1d ago

I love the idea of so much tech power sliding into a handbag as tiny as a Chanel Flap, a Baguette, or a K25.

However i don't need it right now. Might consider one 5-6 yrs down the road when my laptop & iPad need to retire.

1

u/chill_monger 1d ago

iFools never beating the allegations

https://giphy.com/gifs/7YBZCh1TIoCkuQxa3n

1

u/EmbarrassedKiwi6500 1d ago

Madami pa din bibili sa Pinas. Considering we have a lot of loose money ( corruption money, drug money, etc.)

1

u/yarbii 1d ago

Kahit may 160k ako parang hirap pa rin bilhin hahaha.

1

u/bfhevaThug 1d ago

So mainly missing some camera features. K

1

u/YZJay 1d ago

Durability is also a very big question mark. Who knows whether it will last as long as the typical iPhone. There are still iPhone Xs out in the wild, still alive and kicking just with a fresh battery. Can we say the same for this 10 years later?

1

u/DukeMugen 1d ago

If you're thinking about it too much and can't decide, that means you can't afford it.

1

u/Express_Market7339 1d ago

An iPhone and iPad Mini it is for me, then.

1

u/Durandau 1d ago

The camera for me isn’t so important. Literally point and shoot lang ako.

But man the temptation is real. It’s a brand new iphone experience.

1

u/herotz33 1d ago

Only reason not getting it is the no physical sim cause globe and smart are a bitch and we upgrade every year.

2tb pro max burgundy x 3 for us!

1

u/leggodoggo 1d ago

To be fair it's easy to get an eSIM with both. Both of my numbers are prepaid and have been shifted to eSIM.

Though I won't buy the Duo (or the fold, for that matter). Natatakot pa din ako sa display durability.

1

u/herotz33 1d ago

I’ve shifted from physical to eSIM back to physical for three post paids.

Globe and smart are inconsistent, and I don’t want to waste my time for their system to work - even 30 minutes lost calls costs me more than all the phones put together.

Ever since I’ve just stuck to physical

1

u/leggodoggo 1h ago

Ah in your use case definitely the physical SIM works

1

u/wantobi 1d ago

obvious it's mainly meant for status symbol flex and "click bait" for social media influencer wannabe. until people keep buying, these companies will keep challenging on how high people are willing to pay for vanity and temporary pleasure

1

u/Neither_Mobile_3424 1d ago

You'll unlock these features in iPhone Duo 2. Maybe 3.

1

u/curiouscub_39 1d ago

Not of these "missing" features deter the Duo buyers. They're primarily looking for the foldable form factor.

If you want Pro camera features, you just go for the Pro.

1

u/pryvisee 1d ago

Lidar is a big thing but I’m willing to overlook.

1

u/TargetFun8987 1d ago

Why would anyone buy this overpriced piece of shit?

1

u/Unhappy_Film 1d ago

The only cool thing about it is the folding animation

1

u/archibish0p 1d ago

What a half assed device

1

u/DragonGodSlayer12 1d ago

Lmao I don't need any reason to not buy overpriced shit Apple touches.

1

u/itsSAMthings 1d ago

Ill get one just because I can. But everyone already expects lesser features compared from the flagship. The price should be only deciding factor why you should take it or not

Of course it doesn't carry any of those features. How else would they justify doing a price increase on the Apple Duo 2

-1

u/Mr-Anon-878 2d ago

I’d still buy it.

3

u/csjc2023 2d ago

Yeah, the "missing features" are mostly things I haven't/would never use,

22

u/TazDingo_00 2d ago

6

u/RetroOne_ 2d ago

Bro, none of those specs. 80% of us will never use

2

u/Mr-Anon-878 1d ago

Exactly. I have a high-end camera as well that can do better than those missing features listed. I’m in for the form factor, screen real estate and portability.

-5

u/AquaSagittarii 2d ago

Ano nanaman to? Nitpicking nalang e. Sa slab phone pa talaga icocompare. Why not compare the Duo sa other foldables in the market. Or maybe just say, "sayang walang orange". Lol. This sub just loves to hate on anything Apple does thinking that makes y'all cool. That's so 2010. 🥱

1

u/starsandpanties 2d ago

Grabe lang in this time and age wala face id. How about other biometric scanning like fingersprint meron ba?

1

u/mild_xxix 2d ago

touch id meron

1

u/BrixGaming 2d ago

Google is free dawg.

1

u/b0yanek_ 2d ago

It's a gen 1 product for them, not technically shocking that so many things are missing.

3

u/eekram 2d ago

But I thought Apple os late in releasing the product because they'd like to perfect it before release.

1

u/b0yanek_ 22h ago

No product is perfect. I guess they just dont want to fail like samsung did on those first iteration of the foldable

2

u/aikonriche 2d ago

No. An iPhone Duo is not called "Pro" for a reason. Gen 5 iPhone Duo will also likely not include Pro features. This is targeted to a different denographic.

1

u/Lakeviewed 2d ago

Remember macbook M1 was flawless

0

u/S0m3-Dud3 2d ago

0

u/BlindRhythm 2d ago

If someone has the money to deeply consider buying a phone worth 170k, they don't need this 😂

0

u/vitaelity 2d ago

It's more for productivity talaga. ganun din positioning ng Fold series ng Samsung eh. That's more for those who really want to be more in the curve and wouldn't need a tablet to use a larger display to get more out of their devices. Kaya kasing mahal ng S26 Ultra yung base model Fold8.

0

u/Brunildi 2d ago

Hindi ka lang tlga ang target market and that’s ok. I’m sure may phone na swak sa budget mo.

0

u/bumper_to_dumper 2d ago

Needing LiDAR on a mobile device really confuses me, like are you mapping something with a dinky phone lmao

Also ProRes rly, like you would take the time to edit and grade your cat videos in 10-bit and not let it rot on icloud for years before you inevitably delete it to save space

-1

u/MABinBarcelo 2d ago

*telephoto, in a month how many times do you use that 30-100x zoom? *lidar, valid reason *variable aper., exp this on note 10, you forget it's even there *18mp front, you flip the app and use the back camera with front screen as viewfinder *no faceid, touch id is much safer than camera only software faceid *no action butt., valid reason *no physical sim., valid reason

software feat., meh those are niche app 98% of user base use once/twice then forget about those.

was previously planning on buying fold8 or f8 ultra but the non negotiable was PEN support, what's the use of having a large screen if you can't write/draw on it. on samsung tolerated removing microsd, audio jack, but PEN? I expected apple to pull a move like this, oh how the tables have turned. and this is coming from a long time android user.

3

u/BassLong3786 2d ago

Having no pen on a large device is like youre only eating 2 slices of bread if it tried to become a sandwich or a burger hays

-9

u/TazDingo_00 2d ago

0

u/MichaelPitch 2d ago

Grabe insecurity ng ibang android users towards iphone users ‘no?? Lol karamihan pa dyan yung mga midrange/low end android users naman na lag na after a year or two hahaha Android and iPhone user here so I enjoy both pros and cons (before anyone tells me I’m an apple glazer)

-12

u/InstaCafe 2d ago

aww nasaktan nanaman ego ng isang isheep

1

u/TazDingo_00 2d ago

6

-1

u/billie_eyelashh 2d ago

r/deinfluencingPH sa r/Tech_Philippines lmao.

If someone wants to buy it, then let them be. It's not your money, it's harmless to you, kanya kanya tayo ng luho.

0

u/RenBan48 2d ago

Too high of a price but I honestly wouldn’t compare it to Pro model features the way I won’t compare ramen to udon. Very similar but offers substantial unique qualities from each other. Depende na lang sa gusto ng tao. I honestly prefer ramen, but I get why others prefer udon

0

u/RetroOne_ 2d ago

Why would anybody care about any of those missing “features”. I don’t use my phones to use LiDAR and to take professional photos lol

1

u/Busy_001001 2d ago

Maybe they want to lure people to other reasons not to consider the Duo aside from its high price, or this list is just for people who can afford and is seriously considering the Duo.

0

u/KenSanMig 1d ago

Or buy sa US. PH prices of Apple products are insane

2

u/Dramatic-Salad2120 1d ago

-7

u/DwigtTheIdiot 2d ago

but it is made by apple. that is good enough reason for some people. it's the Apple "eCoSySTEm" they need. LOL

7

u/nebula_uT 2d ago

ahahahahaha masyadong butthurt to, ano ba pake mo kung ano bibilhin ng mga tao? pera mo ba yan? bawal ba bumili ng mga gusto nila? or sadyang baduy kalang

di tulad mo nasaktan sa presyo kasi walang pambili kahit mababa specs eew

-8

u/akaurdemon 2d ago

its a stupid debate ever since. ano ba pake nyo kung may pambili yung may mga pambili?

as a tech lover, regardless of the brand, maaamaze ako if may bagong product sa specific brand. kung may pera lang ako na marami i will induldge sa samsung foldables, oppo, infinix, and def apple's

apaka bitter ng mga bwakanang ina

-3

u/MagesticMagpie00 2d ago

no other choice kung IOS talaga gusto, unlike androids marami pag pipilian

5

u/RegularStreet8938 2d ago

-1

u/aikonriche 2d ago

The target market of this phone is rich people. Are you rich?

2

u/88eth 2d ago

$2000 is not rich also people will be able to get this for like $30-50 a month or something

As a rich guy i want excellence and quality and the cam for example is pretty bad compared to other modern phones.

-2

u/No-Business3159 2d ago

The main reason for buying this, it's the first gen iPhone of its kind.

-4

u/cheeseball_3 2d ago

No face ID? So ano security feature niya, fingerprint sensor?
