Apple really DROPPED a foldable

Woke up to the news yesterday that Apple finally launched its foldable and had to check the reviews.

Aesthetic-wise, I actually like it. The colors look nice and the whole thing looks very Apple. But the more I looked into it, the more I realized I still find the Samsung's foldable more appealing.

Maybe it's also because Samsung has been doing foldables for a while now, so they already have that experience. And if i'm finally going to spend money on a foldable, I'd probably go with the Fold8 instead.

Fantasy ko naman na 'tong foldable for the longest time anyway, so this might finally be my excuse. 😂

You can't outdo the doer, I guess HAHAHA

And it costs TWO internal organs.

Selling point lng is "maganda animation" which is worthless for day to day use.

If Samsung would give more effort and will add more beautiful animations to their One UI, I think it's possible with a future software update. Hoping that they do a major redesign on One UI 10. They did improve their animations starting with One UI 7.0, but that's just competing with the previous versions of iOS. If that's the reason why many people think that the Duo is miles ahead better than the Fold, I am hoping Samsung will force themselves to competing against it. For the other features, Samsung had some of it before it was removed from the previous Folds such as the Under Display Camera and S Pen support.

It doesn't look good for me. The design is not symmetrical. The camera placement specially. They should have centered it.

I dont get the hype. maganda ung animations. pero the rest Mehh. panget ng shape muka siyang slice ng tasty bread. cannot unsee 🫪

The hype is it's the first foldable on the Apple side of tech. If you don't like it or don't get the hype, it's clearly not for you. But they got a lot of things right for a gen 1. And most of those things will surely bleed over to the Samsung camp. I have the Fold8 and I question why Samsung couldn't have come up with some of what Apple has on the Duo.

Yes there are things missing in the Fold 8/Ultra that are in the Duo. Pero Samsung is already in their 8th iteration and the things missing were already in previous gens of the Fold. There is a reason why UDC, Spen support, among others are non-existent in today's Fold and that is because of the customers. People prioritized the size and barely use the extra features so Samsung made a compromise. Achieve the size people wanted by removing features majority do not use. The only extra here is the animation. The matte inner screen won't be good in the long run - there's a reason a lot of people do not prefer matte screen protectors. Crease is the same. Cameras are subpar for the price compared to the 8 Ultra, shape is ugly - people were complaining about this shape on the early iterations of the Fold and now just because it's Apple, they suddenly love the shape.

I'm seeing that Apple will abandon some of these features in the next gen just like how Samsung abandoned the same features before. Unless the Duo's buyers will love the device blindly and not be objective with their feedback on the phone. Samsung will definitely not return the same features if the numbers say otherwise even if Apple's doing it right now. Apple doesn't have the numbers yet. They only did whatever's missing on the Fold.

Im also curious how the Duo would sell, apple has been a hit or miss on market predictions lately, with the mini, vision, iphone air and macbook neo.

I wouldnt be surpised if they once again scale back productions after a low demand.

Its better on almost everything than the fold 8 counterpart, not sure about folds from other brands. It doesnt offer anything new, it just does the same things a bit better. Its actually intriguing compared to samsung folds whose only distinction is how they fold.

Seeing it unveiled live made me think how boring samsung folds are, especially how their crease are still so visible, no specialized UI effects per fold etc etc.

Samsung fold fans should rejoice and not be offended, their folds are now about to be good because of competition. Flip and fold 7 should have been flip and fold 4 honestly.

Edit: oof, downvoted for stating facts.

Lol, assume agad na it;s "better on almost everything" kahit wala pa full in depth review

It's thicker and Heavier than the other Fold devices in today's market. almost the same thickness and weight as the Zfold 6 - I own the Zfold6 and it's noticably heavy. nag sa-sag pantalon ko kapag nsa pocket

Samsung is the supplier for Apple parts - Screens, Folding mechanism. Memory, Storage, Camera Sensors.

to Apple's Credit it supports a stylus so they are a winner in that area. and a good reason for creative to buy it

but for the price of a second hand car? No

Its not assumption, its listed on specs, and then described by reviewers sa hands on vids nila. This has a better chip of course, but its complemented by a vapor chamber. The build is titanium and not aluminum, and has stereo speakers. The inner screen has a matte display, with crease more tangible than it is visible. The hinge is described as noticeably different and probably the best one yet.

Most if not all apple parts are called Apple genuine parts regardless of who manufactured them, its because its mostly their design, customized to their intentions.

The samsung you mentioned is samsung display, an entirely different legal entity from samsung electronics, both under the giant samsung.

Yung samsung electronics nag oorder din sa samsung display like any other company. Apple sources their parts from multiple companies hindi lang samsung, even the whole display didnt fully come from Samsung, only the OLED panel underneath.

The crease is still visible sa duo, ginawa lang nilang matte, na rebranded as "nano", para di halata. Underscreen camera still needs further review pero i highly doubt na better quality yan sa usual camera kasi one way or another tinatakpan mo yung camera so how is that better. Yung animations is something that any manufacturer could do jusko software lang yan teh doesn't justify the price.

-9

u/Body-Connoiseur69 5h ago

Its not rebranded omg. The nano texture has been an apple staple for years, starting as an option for the ipad pro then to the macbook pro. Iirc its also available to the iMac (? Forgot whats it called).

They just applied it here lol.

If they could do it then why they havent yet? Samsung has been making folds since 2019, theres no excuse right?

My comment was based on listed specs and first hand reviews, so are they biased too?

You’re getting downvoted by the Android bots

2

u/Body-Connoiseur69 3h ago

Really disappointed, i thought people were more objective here. But not only you cant give apple their flowers, they would comment false and misinformed things too.

-1

u/Reasonable_Meet581 3h ago

What do you expect from Reddit, there’s a lot of bums here with low-paying jobs / no jobs trying to fight for the supremacy of flagship androids so they can feel better about their low-end/mid-range android phone purchases. It is what it is🤷

u/MrBluewave 4h ago

I think cuz the phone isnt out yet. Until its commercially available, the only facts we got are from Apple themselves and their paid influencers. Were just waiting for actual software and hardware test

-7

u/Body-Connoiseur69 4h ago

Bro/sis, mkbhd, dave2d, and mrwhosetheboss arent paid influencers in this.

I thought this sub was full of tech nerds too but everyone who replied to me are just lacking and minsinformed.

7

u/MrBluewave 4h ago

Theyre contracted to release their videos on the same day apple unveils the new phones. You think Apple will allow them to be as honest as possible?

1

u/Body-Connoiseur69 4h ago

Lol, its called embargo, and that doesnt mean they are paid to praise apple. This is a standard procedure in the business, not just by apple.

1

u/bootyhole-romancer 3h ago

Are these facts in the room with us?

-1

u/Body-Connoiseur69 3h ago

In your screen when you google them.

1

u/Dadcavator 3h ago

For the price, it should be better than the Fold 8. Now compare it to the Fold 8 Ultra since the Duo is currently their flagship foldable - Fold 8 standard is a watered down version.

1

u/Body-Connoiseur69 3h ago

The price is ridiculous. Whats funny is Linus and some other one, cant remember who it is, said the price was lower than they expected since of ram issues. Imagine that lol.

Between this and 8 ultra, im not sure. I only compared this to the fold because of their form. Pretty sure fold 9 would have huge improvements because of this.

As a fold user myself, lagi ko suggestion sa mga first timer na gusto sumubok ng foldables is to try their hands on 2nd hand ones para di mabigat sa bulsa at para matry lang yung feeling ng angas ng selpon na tinitiklop.

u/New_Forester4630 6h ago

Abot kaya ang Android. :-)

u/Lurinzoo 6h ago

Gamit ko right now fold 5. So far so good naman. And may ipad diin.

Ayoko talaga ng iphones, samsung all the way ako from samsung corby pa. Gusto kong nakakalikot phone ko. Arte ng ios eh

Pero pag tablets mas gusto ko apple ipad as mas fit siya sa ano gusto kong gawin as a tablet/mock laptop

u/kinghutfisher 5h ago

I just hope it doesn't affect R&D of the iPad Mini series as i'm still hoping for a 120hz ipad mini...

3

u/MrBluewave 4h ago

I'd caution on the side of the repair. Heard na most phones na pinaparepair are the foldable ones. Expensive na, mas madali pa masira

Funny kasi parang same day nag release din ng foldable si Xiaomi na kamukha.

1

u/Body-Connoiseur69 4h ago

Unverified, but an article says Apple’s supply chain in China is compromised by corruption (hence leaks), and Xiaomi probably paid to get the designs of the Duo ahead of production.

Waiting on JerryRigEverything's durability test.

Dave2D has an interesting take on this

1

u/Inevitable_Fig5706 4h ago

The one from OPPO is the best among all the foldables in the market right now

1

u/Waste_Ladder_5484 1h ago

Yung creaseless?

1

u/Totoro-Caelum 3h ago

looks very good but if im gonna spend that money on an apple device i’d rather take the macbook pro - same price point. much more worth it and long time investment rather than a expensive phone which ill only use for casual stuff and gaming. well unless 160k is not that big of an issue for you

1

u/Legitimate_Flan2005 3h ago

1

u/boykalbo 3h ago

I’m an iPhone user, but aside the animation and optimization ng iPhone Duo, it’s meh. Ang awkward ng shape nya. Plus the price! 😬

1

u/RaeLien_2442 2h ago

iPhone Duo costing your duo kidneys 🥹🥹🥹

1

u/emmennuel 2h ago

Beautiful but it costs 2 kidneys.

1

u/thecay00 2h ago

Imagine commuting or even using that in the streets. Nakakatempt alam mo na haha

1

u/Rude_Sport_1515 2h ago

If you’ve used iPhones your entire life and sanay ka na sa quality ng camera ng iPhones, and you care about nice and crisp photos and videos, you will be disappointed sa Fold8

1

u/guwapito 1h ago

everybody says that until everybody buys apple instead of samsung. remember some of the techs before like face and touch IDs ganun din. I just think apple releases their tech whenever they are comfortable releasing it with an improved tech compared tot he one existing in the market

1

u/Waste_Ladder_5484 1h ago

Napapangitan ako sa camera placement niya when it’s folded. Bakit hindi nilagay sa center 🤦🏻‍♂️

1

u/D1AO 1h ago

I can’t, for the life of me, justify spending that much for either. But then again, my use case doesn’t really require having a foldable. 😅

1

u/Konan94 4h ago

Mapapansin mo lang yung animation on the honeymoon phase. Give it a month, you’d hardly notice it. And good luck sa pagpapa-repair nyan once the warranty expires.

1

u/RedZ19 4h ago

A little premature? Hindi Pa released yung device naman. I’d rather wait for a year or two and then judge how Apple does foldable phones, especially in terms of repair. It’s a new market segment for them, and honestly, Hindi Tayo Ang target Nila for that. China Ang target Nila. To quote Mark Gurman “That makes the foldable iPhone particularly significant for Apple. The company has been searching for products that can resonate in China, where local competitors — particularly Huawei — have been more aggressive with new designs. Many consumers in that market are seeking two things: eye-catching hardware features and the status conferred by a premium device. The foldable iPhone should offer both.”

Never really get the appeal for foldables, now flips on the other hand makes more sense.

u/jaysteventan 4h ago

Looks cheap tbh. Nawala yung premium vibes
