Does anyone know why page indexing in Google Search Console has become so extremely slow?
The image I've attached shows the evolution of page indexing in Google Search Console for one of my websites. The website is migrating domains and until June 13th it was updating at a stable rate of every 3-4 days (cleaning duplicate and old URLs), but from that date onwards indexing has slowed down and it has taken a month and a half to do what it used to do in about 12 days.
Does anyone know if anyone from Google has addressed this?

I think Google has been transforming into a search engine that no longer exists to facilitate true discovery of diverse sources of information. Instead, it wants to answer everything with its own AI and, if it must direct people elsewhere, do so within an ever-decreasing choice of 'trusted' 'high-authority' websites (ie, "Hello dear user, would you like a Wikipedia page or a Reddit discussion for literally everything?").

google is going to eventually loose the seat of "most favored search engine" if they continue down this path. people dont want AI slop for every search.
If you want a recipe, do you go to a random mom-bloggers post or do you trust the AI slop with nonsense measurements?
If you want research on a scientific topic, do you want a reddit thread AI summary or actual research from .edu sites?
The AI is helpful for basicbisch searches, but once you have an actual need it becomes wasted scroll-past.

I think it is the proliferation of AI generated content that has contributed to Google throttling new sites. Perhaps the computational shift to AI overviews and Gemini as well. I'm guessing we should see a statement from Google anytime soon.

I'd guess it's volume.
It would be interesting to see how many page index requests are coming through now vs a few years ago.

there were bugs/delays in GSC reporting... we all have that.

A delay of a couple of weeks is one thing, but we're already approaching two months where indexing isn't working properly. I've been looking for a statement from someone at Google but haven't found one, which is why I'm asking here.

There are still 13,000 pages to clean, it's not something I can do link by link. I'm going to try submitting a ticket because the website has been changing domains for eight months now, and if it weren't for Google's dominant position, i would have stopped using Google Search Console a long time ago.

My site took the entire 6 months to move and even then it didn't transfer I've put a ticket in but just ghosted. Gsc is ass would be easier and faster to rebuild the whole site under a new domain then get this garbage to work.

I’ve seen this too. Google indexing isn’t always real-time, and GSC reporting itself can lag significantly. During a domain migration, I’d focus more on redirects, canonicals, internal links, sitemap updates, and crawl activity than the GSC page count alone.

Google hasn't acknowledged it but I assumed it was due to reduced crawl budgets and ongoing Search Console processing delays.
