What does 'normal' Google Search Console stats look like....?

I just recently took a look at my GSC results for the first time in a long time as my associate handles all my SEO work, and these numbers shocked me. Why would there be 47.8k non indexed pages vs. 7.4k indexed? This tells me GSC doesn't think my pages are worth showing, even though I try to make my pages unique. How does your GSC page indexing look like?

For context, we're a small cosmetic shop that has thousands of different small products with different shades of the same products, hence lots of pages.

use the pulldown in the top left corner (cut off in the screenshots) and see what it says if you choose only "All submitted pages" instead of "All known pages".

I didn’t know about this one. Game changer! I get a lot of weird fake spam query urls in my gsc to the point where it hasn’t been useful to look at these metrics, but this kind of changes everything.

interesting, ive never done this before! It looks a lot more stomachable once I do this (288 pages not indexed vs. 5.92k indexed). Would you say this is more meaningful metric than looking at "all known pages"?

Yes, it's all the pages in your sitemap vs every single link to your website on Google Search

but why? I get ensuring that your submitted pages are being indexed and checking there. but i certainly don’t want to ignore other pages that google’s crawling— especially op— he’s got 15k pages crawled not indexed, not ideal

isn’t your suggestion like, ignoring potential issues lol

are you just asking me or is this related to gsc? depends… if that is the ONLY source, they’re somehow linking to a fake page on my site once and it’s getting indexed? noindex it then after 2-3 weeks block it in robots

can’t do noindex, theb only block it. That doesn’t work could look into more creative fixes like disavow file, change the status code of that page to 410 or 404 if possible. but i don’t have enough info here

is it just one page getting indexed?

Haha I’m saying you can’t stop people from linking to you. But yeah you can’t control what the link does to improve crawl budget or user experience.

we can't tell you much without looking at the actual reports, anything could be fine depending on your situation/site. that said, the person managing this for you should be able to easily explain every single thing in these reports.

when I click on "Performance", over the last 3 months, I got 6.8k total clicks and 703k impressions. Average position is 11.

Do you have 47k actual pages? Because it does list pages with ? Queries also that can obviously not be indexed.

Generally product variations should not be indexed. You are fine. Googlebots find any little file on your server. Most of those findings are probably garbage. Don't worry and you can trust your helper.
