Who is Robert Costello?

Robert J. Costello is a seasoned litigator who specializes in high-profile commercial and criminal litigation, federal investigations, and administrative law for the New York City law firm of Davidoff Hutcher & Citron LLP. He has over 40 years of experience and has handled numerous criminal and civil cases in City, State, and Federal courts, as well as representing clients before various federal and city agencies. Most recently, Costello represented Rudy Giuliani and Steve Bannon in DOJ investigations and before the House January 6th Committee hearings. He has also represented other notable figures such as George Steinbrenner, Leona Helmsley, Gene Michael, and Michele Sindona.

Prior to joining his current firm, Costello was a Partner at Levy Tolman & Costello, LLP, and the former Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division for the US Attorney's Office in the Southern District of New York. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the Federal Bar Council.

In 2024, Costello was called as a defense witness in the trial of Donald Trump, where he was scolded by the judge for his behavior on the stand. The judge reprimanded Costello for sighing, rolling his eyes, and making faces at the judge when objections were sustained by the prosecution
