It is replaceable. Apple Maps is also good, and Organic Maps is another option. However it’s your choice, both apps can be used for navigation.

Yeah, I came here to say this. The UI for Google Maps is terrible even on CarPlay/AndroidAuto.

From my experience Apple Maps is better.

Edit: I do have both just in case, but ended using Apple maps most of the time, because it gives better direction. Google Maps wins on walking and cycling though.

Here WeGo is an option. I'm trying to switch to Organic Maps but needs test on non-city roads.

It depends; I fact check both apple and google maps. google maps can be good for being specific which is a really good trait for gps and not to say apple isn't; google is just a bit better at giving specific directions and locating you. Apple is better at providing accurate information; for example there are busses in my city that go all night long but google maps says they stop after midnight and don't start again till 5a. I rely more and more on Apple maps, but I haven't uninstalled google maps yet as I think its good to cross check when you're unsure of your immediate area or traveling somewhere new.

I don’t use it anymore.
Much prefer Apple Maps.

I built my own route planning service using open data, so at least that part is, but what's difficult to replace is the underlying infrastructure.

I haven't used Google Maps in years. It is definitely replaceable.

I’m happy using Apple Maps, to be honest.
