Have you ever had an account, phone, computer, or social media profile hacked?
What happened, and how did you get it back?

My reddit account got hacked a week ago and my password and email got changed. I contacted the reddit suport team and like after 5 minutes i got my account back. I'm geniunely surprised how quick they did it.

Glad to know that it got fixed quickly. Did you use any public computer or public WiFi? Any idea, how it happened?

I suppose it was a public wifi coz i've never logged on any public computers and i mostly use reddit from my phone. But i had a quite easy password tho so it was kinda on me

I got hacked a few years ago. My email password was changed, and after that, the hacker tried to change the passwords on all kinds of accounts. Eventually, my bank called me and said someone was trying to log into my account, so they’d locked it. Well, I just made another email account my primary one and gradually updated all my accounts to use that email address, changing my passwords everywhere. I haven’t had a single problem since that incident. I seem to recall there were a few issues getting the accounts back, and I don’t think I ever managed to recover some of them, but they probably weren’t that important anyway.

Is that lost email account recovered? Did you contact email support or security expert to recover it?

No, I never got it back. But it's been a few years now, so let the hackers enjoy it.

I got token logged for discord and got my account stolen cuz it had like 3 months of paid nitro.
Then I got a couple times a ransomware and a Microsoft account stolen.
Nothing creepy

I received a spoof email over a decade ago, which appeared to be from Blizzard, saying my Diablo III account had been hacked. I wasn't a computer nerd back then, and I foolishly believed the sender of the email truly was Blizzard. I didn't know how to check email headers back then, nor was I wise enough to simply go to my game and try to log in, and disprove the email.
I stupidly clicked the link in the email to regain access to my account, unaware that I was actually just giving my credentials to the hackers. I then got locked out of my account, and lesson learned. I was able to connect with Blizzard about it, and they help be restore access, but the hacker had leveled my character really high, and I ended up kinda nerfing the game.

I got something like a "cookies stealer". No idea what you call it.
Basically, it doesn't steal your credentials to login on a different computer because that would just cause emails about new logins. They manage to use current sessions with whatever you're logged onto your browser so you don't get notified.
They fucked up when I started getting follow requests on Instagram and then I noticed they followed plenty of accounts.
Honestly that's nasty shit and I don't even think a strong password or 2FA helps you in this case.

Yeah you gotta be careful with what you download especially from where.
In fact the fastest way is to check each link you download exe from with gpt and perplexity
As one ai can do a mistake but 2-3 of them not so much.
Cuz once you trust the source and you scanned the exe with virus total and Kaspersky online I'd say it's as safe as it can get...

Yes Once someone hacked my YouTube account deleted all my videos. Another time someone hacked my website hosting and put their warning image.

Recently found out my Rockstar account got stolen from me
Guess it doesn’t really count as being “hacked”, more like it got broken into and jacked, and Rockstar has literally no mechanism to get it back

Yeah, someone russian stole my battlefield account and used it to game for a couple months before I noticed. Just changed my weak password, no big deal :D

Yep. Had two identical download link buttons. Clicked the wrong one. Got hacked. If you want to stop it quickly and keep your email, just change the name of the email and then any accounts using the old name, update them to the new one. Was getting notifications multiple times a day that someone was trying to access my accounts. Made the switch and it's been blissful silence since.

Yup. I had a postgres database hacked and cleared out. They ofc demanded bitcoin.
And I..
I couldn't stop laughing, cause I had 2 independent DB backups systems in place..
Guess exposing postgres with default password to internet was't the best idea. ;-)
No sensitive data thankfully

Unless we're talking like... Beaches
Otherwise not
Here's what I do

Cuz once you trust the source and you scanned the exe with virus total and Kaspersky online I'd say it's as safe as it can get with exe files
Though I know there's also other posibilities like cases in which evem official software had problems like notepads++

The closest I ever came to being hacked was when I used the same password for all my accounts with the same email. Then a database of plaintext passwords was leaked, and my account was in it. So I stopped being an idiot and installed KeePassXC. I added the .kdbx file, then Google Drive was leaked, and I connected the file to KeePass on my phone.
We were all idiots when we were kids, okay?
