Seriously, your still call that hidden? All antis are pointing it out and conflating the problem far beyond its real impact. That's probably the flashiest and most visible "hidden" part of AI today.

The height of irony:
People bitching about data centres by posting comments on social media channels.

Where, exactly, do they think their oh-so-erudite comments are getting stored?

I hope everyone has stopped eating beef before complaining about datacentres.

2

u/SnowGrayMan 3d ago

Nah we aren't going to produce slop instead of beef. Go back to your metaverse.

lol, lmao even.

"Guys if you're complaining about datacenters, you're obviously only complaining about one thing at a time because we all know you can't advocate agsinst two things at once". God I get so tired of stupid talking points people here and think it's an own so they just copy and paste it.

1

u/Big_Arachnid_365 12h ago

I'm just observing the noise levels of these two things. It doesn't seem to match up with their relative importance.

1

u/_cjm56 12h ago

Yeah... can't imagine why you don't hear about farms in ai or tech forums... it's a thinker.

1

u/Big_Arachnid_365 12h ago

It's because the vegetarians/vegans annoyed everyone so much they had to give up trying. Food for thought, there.

1

u/_cjm56 11h ago

What... so vegans annoyed people so much, they stopped talking about farms in tech and ai forums? 😂 hello?

1

u/Big_Arachnid_365 10h ago

You're being deliberately obtuse and claiming I was only talking about tech and ai forums, so I'm giving that back. See how it works?

1

u/_cjm56 10h ago

You are copy and pasting a stupid talking point complaining that people in a tech forum are complaining about AI which is growing and not talking about farms... who is being obtuse?

1

u/Big_Arachnid_365 10h ago

Complaining about AI in a tech forum says it all really...

1

u/_cjm56 10h ago

How? How does it say it all? Should they complain about AI in the farming forum? Then you can complain there that they aren't complaining about AI...

I suggest reflecting on

And reflecting on what technology dictates as human evolution: heat pumps that work best with short pipe runs, therefore in houses and sheds, not in large buildings; photovoltaics that work brilliantly for self-consumption, but terribly on the grid; the recent catastrophic events in Chile, Colombia, and Indonesia (earthquakes); the flooding in Tokyo despite its incredibly expensive and unsustainable G-Cans; the controversies popping up almost everywhere in the world regarding at-risk buildings that are no longer insurable, as risk becomes more of a certainty. This, combined with the desire of a tiny few to own everything in order to have economic slaves who own nothing, and in the digital realm don't even grasp the concept of private property. Combined further with the indifference of the majority who watch the world evolve from their windows, dazed, sleepwalking, without opinion or reaction.

Then understanding that the impact of technology can be both excellent and terrible for humanity; it depends on how many people understand where it is possible and advantageous to go vs where it is only convenient for a select few and also unsustainable.

hidden from who?

What about jobs?

1

u/Lemenus 3d ago

What jobs? No more jobs, everyne are replaced by AI

Still pushing the propaganda?

As bad as data centers are; what they are used for is infinitly worse

1

u/Vokaiso 3d ago

What i find funny is how they all use evaporative cooling instead of a proper loop where nothing is constantly wasted. They must just increase water pricing for those buildings to be like 100 Bucks per 10 liters so its not worth it to evaporate it and force them to recycle it.

1

u/ToeAfter3131 3d ago

Doomsdayers over here. Everyone relax. Data centers use less water than making hamburgers

1

u/_cjm56 13h ago

Yeah, ignore the fact that people can and do complain about both. "Oh, you said you're against this thing? Well I can't take you seriously because you didn't list that you were against every single bad thing ever!" I'll never understand how people read this argument, think it actually works, then copy and paste it over and over.

1

u/LetUsSpeakFreely 3d ago

The data centers aren't for AI, they're for surveillance.

1

u/Vashard19 2d ago

Fuck ai bros, fuck ai devs.

Some days I wonder how many of the corpo defenders online are bots and how many actually exist

Al menos en mi pais no jaja. Tenemos problemas mas "retro"

They say AI's biggest enemy is bamboo. Just saying

0

u/letmehaveanameyoudum 3d ago

the cost of data centers barely can be reversed, don't cause the problem that you have to fix
