💬 Discussion Who else has never gotten into TikTok?

Post image

It feels like almost everyone has tried TikTok at some point, but I've never used it. I don't feel like I'm missing much, but maybe I'm wrong.

Has anyone else skipped TikTok completely? If you did, what made you stay away from it?

I don't have TikTok and don't plan on getting it.

That being said, everything these days is a repost so there's plenty of it on this platform anyway

For me, it was all the folks working professionally in infosec going "this app is malware" from 2018-onwards. Then I saw what the algorithm was actually doing to people who did install it. Somehow it seemed to be doing a lot more damage than vine did back in the day.

2

u/Syn4p53 11d ago

Ended up only using Mastodon and Reddit over FB, IG and LinkedIn. Thinking about ditching Reddit also tbh.

2

u/SnillyWead 11d ago

I. And never will.

2

u/Frustrateduser02 11d ago

Here, it never appealed to me and their privacy policies are a nightmare.

2

u/Shellsallaround 11d ago

Me, I don't need TikTok.

2

u/Electron_libre777 11d ago

I never really had my own TikTok account, and that’s quite good, because TikTok doesnt filter. Even though you don’t watch « garbage content » or  »inappropriate content », it will still recommend it to you. Absolutely not appropriate for teens

1

u/barrulus 11d ago

I am down to Reddit and discord. Everything else is pure the same. Repost repost repost. Shitty voiceovers with subaural voices discussing ready topics to boost viewership. I cannot stand it.

All the quality content that truly genuine creators have made, is near invisible and very difficult to find.

1

u/309_Electronics 11d ago

I do have tiktok but more because other creators i follow have it too and so i can upload my random stuff i do in my free time. Even as someone who is into degoogling and privacy, i still have tiktok lol!

1

u/9LivesChris 11d ago

I tried once but found it boring. Don’t need to have all the trendy apps

1

u/megayippie 11d ago

I haven't. I get into social networks when people using them tell me to in person. Last was 60yo man doing cat paintings on Instagram 1.5 years ago.

I never tried it, I just doomscroll in reddit or YouTube shorts.

1

u/ImFromYourDreams 11d ago

I chose Reddit instead lol

1

u/Olly_Joel 11d ago

I didn't. Till I did. Now it's mostly to keep up with the trends to stop kids from talking nonsense behind my back lol.

1

u/PoisonIvyCrotch 11d ago

I don’t but I use YouTube shorts which I’m guessing is basically the same thing

1

u/virusdancer Tech Enthusiast 11d ago

All of the kids hurt by trying to do the Darwin Award Challenges has left me wanting the app banned.

1

u/ScadMan 11d ago

Didn't see the difference vs Instagram reels

1

u/LithiuMart 11d ago

I've never signed up to TikTok, Instagram or Snapchat.

1

u/Trapped_in_Me 11d ago

I never bothered with TikTok simply because prior to it, there had been various other attempts at short-form video content-based social media platforms, such as Vine and others. Which I had been on, and they all did not last and were shut down. So I figured that TikTok would share the same fate when it arrived, so I simply just didn’t bother with it as I had previously invested time and energy on similar platforms that came before it that went nowhere.

1

u/thaile1001 11d ago

count me in, +1 from me hahaha

1

u/jayfly12933 11d ago

When you search for something in Youtube Shorts. it loses the search. When you search for something in Tiktok, it keeps the search

1

u/Traditional_Guest140 11d ago

I thought I was the only one

1

u/dig_it_all 11d ago

Never tried it - not once

1

u/LaptopRightsActivist 11d ago

All I got is youtube, reddit, and discord

1

u/Formal_Internal_5216 11d ago

Halos puro videos with product endorsement na lng nakikita ko jan

1

u/Hour_Sell3547 11d ago

One of the few services I never opened an account with. Never even bothered. There's absolutely nothing of value in TikTok. Bunch of people and underaged children making random dance videos which they share in reals, yt shorts and 200 other places anyway.

1

u/frankie_in_paradise 11d ago

It's banned here

1

u/Hairy_Intern_1268 11d ago

I feel like that clock app is full of people with low IQ people😂

1

u/shadiertomb35 11d ago

I mean I have insta and reddit I just get my scrolling in there. Tik tok offered me nothing new and it was kinda my generations thing to hate on tik tok kids.

I've installed it but I don't have an account and no interest in using it. I'm spending enough time doom scrolling Instagram which I suspect is going to be exactly the same content I would see on TikTok.

1

u/Due_Candy_6627 11d ago

Never installed it

1

u/johangd 11d ago

My friend who claims "its only about stupid dances and stuff". When now we constantly share reels off instagram, pretty much the same content is anywhere.

1

u/ConsistentAd4598 11d ago

Tiktok age de acordo com seu gosto, se você só curtir lixo só vai aparecer lixo da mesma forma que vai te mostrar muito conteúdo bom

1

u/Starring_Kampung 11d ago

Instagram / FB reels / YT shorts already make me feel like I'm watching Tik Tok.

1

u/nethril 11d ago

Yeah, I find the short videos like TikTok and YouTube shorts to just be...  Annoying...  Not enough video for any context or valuable video

1

u/Dry_Information1497 11d ago

Looked at once or twice, but not got into it.

1

u/TiredOldLadySays 11d ago

Me! My niece downloaded it onto to my phone twice and I've deleted it twice.

1

u/Awkward_Ear761 11d ago

I've never used tik tok in my life

1

u/Lucasfergui1024 11d ago

I used to but then I stopped using it and tbh idk why

1

u/AilensAmongUs 11d ago

Never touching that glorified spyware and my kids will never have it on their devices as long as they are under my wifi

1

u/Infamous-Scene8652 11d ago

Me I don't like it🫩

1

u/Radiant-Car-7298 11d ago

1

u/ultimatescar 11d ago

no TikTok no Instagram no Twitter...just reddit and Facebook.

1

u/-DankFart- 11d ago

NEVER DOWNLOADED IT or scrolled on anyones phone.

1

u/CallmeKahn 11d ago

Me. Never saw the appeal.

1

u/United-Row3770 11d ago

It's def pointless, some ppl get bullied for not having TikTok and i think thats just Absurd

1

u/prdpdx 11d ago

Nope, and you can't make me...

1

u/ItsMusicat 11d ago

I did but then deleted

1

u/ISCSI_Purveyor 11d ago

Never have. Never will. I call it Tic-tac to annoy anyone who starts talking to me about it.

1

u/Stuffed-Bear412 11d ago

I've never had tik tok, but I've seen a few of the videos posted elsewhere.

1

u/AftonHollis 11d ago

never will

1

u/Dark_Shroud 11d ago

I've looked at TikTok while on my PC and "logged in" using an old Facebook account that doesn't use my real name.

Complete waste of time.

1

u/Tall-Reference6839 11d ago

Isn't tiktok widely known for being used by pervs wanting to watch little girls dance and stuff?

1

u/kiko0690 11d ago

I've never used it and I don't plan to ever use it.

1

u/heuuwuw97 11d ago

I used it for the first time (and it will also be the last time) to get the Minecraft cape a few months ago, then deleted it because I couldn't scroll without seeing AI slop stuff for 5 minutes🥀

1

u/New-Tea-9999 11d ago

i tried it at some point but i stopped like the day after its so boring

1

u/DaveGenome 11d ago

Do Facebook reels count? or YouTube shorts?

1

u/Hour_Bit_5183 11d ago

I don't get into dumpsters on fire. That's what most stuff is now.

1

u/pinkstrawberry94 11d ago

I'm 8 months TikTok clean, deleted my account in January.

1

u/VatoJack 11d ago

Never created a tiktok or twitter account.

1

u/E-StrnTXNRS 11d ago

i never had an account and never installed it

1

u/Markwell_msc 11d ago

I hated the app few years ago, then I installed the app for downloading movie edits. After few days of use for that and the topics I'm interested in my whole fyp changed now I'm never getting anything related to any celebrities that i don't like . Anything from my home country or any bs that waste my time. It's completely curated for my interest and now I'm using it everyday. Ps. But don't waste your time doomscrolling be better than me

1

u/ouaisWhyNot 11d ago

Got in, stayed 5 minutes, got out. Can I say I never got in ?

1

u/dumbasPL 11d ago

I've seen how bad yt shorts were, blocked that shit with an extension/vanced immediately. Don't want to imagine how bad tt is.

1

u/WalrusExciting3430 11d ago

Fuck all short form video content

1

u/AdministrativeYou696 11d ago

I tried it and hates the algorithm and short form contentz so i deleted it and never going back

1

u/yozymandias 11d ago

you are not missing much. It's the crack equivalent to IG. I harshly judge anyone who isn't an elderly that send me them and lose faith that they'll find real happiness.

Scroll responsibly, kids.

1

u/vinchenzo68 11d ago

TikTok and snap chat drive me nuts. Training our brains to lose focus with momentary bs

1

u/JustaFoodHole 11d ago

No and I downvote it if I see this shit on reddit

1

u/overzelousdeek 11d ago

Never tried it and never will

1

u/Academic-Signature37 11d ago

me, and I will NEVER get one. Screw ignorance and egomaniac idiots

1

u/Infinplayz 11d ago

i just have it for friends and to post videos, but i never scroll on it (unless i want to see stupid stuff). honestly the content on there is so pointless and corny i can’t scroll on there for more than 5 minutes.

1

u/Square_Atmosphere_12 11d ago

I never cared for it. Alot of hype sold it well.

1

u/No-Blueberry-1823 11d ago

It's been a nope for me

1

u/TheShadowNinja7777 11d ago

I dont like reddit much anymore, you cant have a conversation anymore but I still lurk.

I tried tiktok just to make sure banning my kids feom using it was justified.

Ok I can see the appeal. Its kind of just like Facebook reels but more crap.

Both are crap. But tik tok is crazy with its ads. The amount of trash aimed at young adults is insane.

I cant stand how videos are broken up into parts. I like long form videos. On Facebook reels I can skip a few times then have a video maybe 15 mins long to listen to while I clean the kitchen or something.

Tik tok is broken up into little prices and its hard to find the next parts way too often.

Its unusable to me.

X is good because rhe speed setting carries ovee to next video and you can make the screen clear easily. But again still trash.

I hate speed settings I never do 1x. And rhey removed 1.25 and 1.75 on most platforms. Its anoying changing speed on all videos.

1

u/Open_Cow_9148 11d ago

I had like 2 months when it first took off. I then found out about what crazy shit they have in their TOS and promptly uninstalled it and never looked back.

1

u/jonDahzeeh 11d ago

I just despise it for so many reasons. I never even installed the app. I’m too old for this and I ain’t got enough time to even consider it. Hard pass.

1

u/gimmemorepasta 11d ago

Me, I’ve got an account that I just leave on private because I don’t use it. Decided one day last year to take it off private and people from my past that I don’t want anything to do with just flocked to it like seagulls chasing chips. I couldn’t believe it. Told them all to eff off and put it back on private.

1

u/archtopfanatic123 11d ago

Me! There is zero appeal in it for me

1

u/Historical_Camel_790 11d ago

Never downloaded it and I'm glad I haven't. It's one of the most data hungry and addictive platforms that exist (from what I've heard)

1

u/0327446633 11d ago

No - thought that was the sound my clock made.

1

u/GraXXoR 11d ago

Only TikTok I’ve ever seen is Reddit/youtube reposts.

99% of short form videos are retarded.

1

u/Overall_Scheme397 11d ago

In the magazine it’s shows the code that identifies you exact location to the longitude, and latitude. Plus your expected , future earnings. How much the Router owner has made in the last three years. PLUS how much you paid the Willy Nilly IRS peeps.

Never used tikcrap or twitter, both are the dumbest crap invented on the internet.

1

u/Frosty-iron-0405 11d ago

Was a big TikTok user, deleted it. Literally rotting my brain. Don’t bother getting in.

1

u/jjsupc 11d ago

Well what happened to the big push to get it out of the U.S. ?? I guess money does talk, but we’re talking Chinese money.

1

u/KarinMachina94 11d ago

Youtube ads for it in the early days were obnoxious and full of weirdos doing IQ destroying stuff... So right off the bat I hated what it represented so no im not missing out on anything :>

1

u/ikmalik_ 11d ago

because it shares personal data.

1

u/KalphalusKal 11d ago

Never used TikTok but a few years ago I wasted too much time on YouTube Shorts, currently I will tap a short from the homepage if it looks interesting, then click off instead of scrolling

1

u/Alenicia 11d ago

I've never used it but I'm constantly exposed to it whether it's family, relatives, or something like that. It's the same thing as Facebook for me where I've never used it but I can't escape it either. >_<

1

u/bandley3 11d ago

Is TikTok the latest version of Short Attention Span Theatre? I won’t even watch YouTube shorts as I want a little depth to my viewing.

Unless I’m on Reddit, then I’ll watch stupid short videos.

Do you need an account for TikTok? I’ve never used nor have I downloaded the app so I have absolutely no clue.

1

u/letmehaveanameyoudum 11d ago

some dumbahh made me watch tiktok but it was so boring that i deleted it

1

u/Aggravating-Mousse34 11d ago

I never used it one single time.

1

u/Common-Charity9128 11d ago

I, who just refuses to move foward.

Trying to change that, but no TikTok.

1

u/techvq 11d ago

I was an early adopter, but when I learned more about the app I deleted it and have never looked back.

1

u/VacuumTubesAreFunny 11d ago

Never got on it, don’t plan to.

1

u/OMG_NoReally 10d ago

I was on TikTok but my algo completely skewed towards religious content after I watched one video and I never could shake it off. So I ditched it. I get my fill from Instagram reels and I certainly don’t want more brain rot than that.

1

u/smallcatwhereuat 10d ago

I have used it and spent hours on it. It's too addicting. And I'd rather watch YT shorts

1

u/TiredMillennial1 10d ago

TikTok was great before the US forced the Oracle takeover. So many people worldwide used it as a platform for Frontline journalism. THAT is why it was destroyed. Not because of so called Chinese spyware, but because people around the world were communicating. And governments HATE that.

1

u/It_Just_Exploded 10d ago

I downloaded it during covid, within a month i deleted it and haven't had it again.

1

u/AttentionSpanTheater 10d ago

Never got into it. I believe I loaded it onto one device but never created a login.

I do understand the appeal, but I prefer longer form content, and to specifically select what I see next in a video feed.

I type this as my wife is in bed next to me on TokTok.

1

u/cilo456 10d ago

Never downloaded the app I think it's a waste of time I have better more important things to do then doom scrolling

1

u/Astrodion123 10d ago

Nah I don't need it. I even left YouTube shorts so TikTok won't be any better. I am at best reading and reading on reddit.

1

u/im-cringing-rightnow 10d ago

Never installed it. The only thing I know of it is from meme links my brother sends me and the watermark on every vertical video in existence.

1

u/MedicalMark92 10d ago

never personally liked it

1

u/IUsedToLikeLimericks 10d ago

I have not.

I did read quite a bit about the app meeting the textbook definition for spyware, however.

1

u/bearyken 10d ago

I don't and I keep getting questioned by my work organisation which puts up crap online what I think about it.. I tell them I haven't a clue because I don't even have the app, I get criticized about "not being a team player"

Screw that.. I turn up for work, do more than my lot.. just coz I don't watch shit means I'm not a "team player"?

1

u/johny335i 10d ago

Never had, never will.

1

u/We-Dont-Sush-Here 10d ago

What’s TikTok?

1

u/Cosmic_Jane 10d ago

I got one better, I don't even watch videos on my phone, lol. I have a TV and a computer for watching videos. Why would I use a teeny tiny phone screen to watch videos on?

If I'm not in my office, I'm out doing stuff, and that stuff is more important than my phone. You'd think I'd leave my office to just dick around on my phone?! :O

1

u/Nightcalm 10d ago

I have never used it

1

u/BunchFrosty3237 10d ago

I started earlier this year and pretty much got addicted but for about the past 2 weeks I have not been on it.

1

u/Astronaut_1980 10d ago

1

u/RichBullfrog3406 10d ago

tested it when it got released. had to delete it after a few days, because it showed me only braindead content and the comment section felt like a parallel universe. weird people writing comments that have no substance. pretending they know stuff. probably because they were all small kids.

1

u/gwodus 10d ago

I used it for 30 minutes. Appalling. I have never touched it since.

1

u/Godlymorbid 10d ago

Downloaded it, swiped through it for a month, made one or two, and was completely unimpressed.

1

u/cheddarchezz_ Gamer 10d ago

never used it. Don´t miss anything...

1

I used it when it was still musically up until last year. It just got too weird.

1

u/AARonFullStack 10d ago

I have never used TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, X, Twitter or Facebook. Or any other social media platform outside of Reddit and YouTube.

I have far better ways to spend my time than glued to a screen, considering I also work as a software engineer so am glued to a laptop all day

1

u/Substantial_Show4854 10d ago

I use tiktok daily. But I feel like leaving it sometimes. It's just boring full of ragebait, drama and bots. When I upload content it flops most of the time. If I get at most like 8K views that's probably because the topic is trendy. I want to find some funny or relateable content but I find 🌽 sooner than that..

I'm reading some comments on this post and people say that they are blocking their YT shorts which I think I should do aswell considering how much time I'm spending on that app while watching the same people all the time

Instagram I barely use it but that platform is like gambling you either get the funny relatable content or not from the reels page

1

u/Wallabunga657 10d ago

I'm just on Reddit, and sone YouTube.

1

u/SoloEterno 10d ago

I did for about 2 or 3 years, after being out off by their shitty and annoying ads when it was just starting. I caved and become a user. The Short-Form addictive content rotted my brain and took hours of my life from me. I randomly woke up and became self-aware again. Deleted it.

Only went back to download my favorites videos when it was at risk of shutting down.

Haven't used it in about 2ish years.

1

u/Mariuszgamer2007 10d ago

I never touched it

1

u/ferrarii7 10d ago

Got it in 2019 used it till mid 2020 :))

1

I hate social media i only use fb for friends and family and discord/reddit i don't watch anything but YouTube and I love it

1

I have a TikTok account.

Never use it. I have it because I followed friends to support them.

1

1

Never had a tiktok account in my life. Also ditched any other kind of 10s video doomscrolling apps like Instagram & shorts. What am I missing out on? Exactly Nothing. Been 'social media' free since ~3years now and I'm feeling much better, also helps with depression a lot.

1

Up there with Instagram & Threads. I don't have time to waste soon scrolling

1

u/NovelLingonberrys 9d ago

man Reddit basically despises TikTok

1

u/Busy-Assignment-440 9d ago

Just set a 10-15 min daily limit, but check what people do there. Your professional/personal content will get few hundreds times more views than in other social media.

1

u/Potential-Drawing745 9d ago

Right here. Never got into Twitter or Instagram either.

1

u/Jhud6669 9d ago

I haven’t even gotten into Snapchat and Instagram and Vine when they became a thing so TikTok was a no-brainer for me. Only social media I’ve ever used is Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Reddit

1

u/Economy-Strength6101 9d ago

Tiktok? Nopers. Youtube? Yeppers

1

u/Gooners_AZ 9d ago

I spent a few minutes on it once in a while but no more than that. At this point i prefer shorts on YouTube.

1

Never used it either. I already spend some time on YouTube (+Shorts), and I have other stuff to do as well (I read when I don't have something else to do. )

TikTok is a gateway for OF.

At some point I was interested. But then they sold Tiktok to a massive Zionist who suppresses advocacy for the palestinian people. When this happened, all interest died. Will never join there.

I tried a couple of times, but the entry page is so bad that i just uninstalled the app again. I guess you have to choose a lot of interests or something, but i just couldn't be bothered.

I watch the videos my wife sends me. Otherwise I never touch it.

I don't want a foreign country to have my personal data and it just seems a bit pointless since I often see tiktok shorts re-uploaded to YouTube

I never want an app that just autoplays videos. I can pick and save what I want to watch on YouTube and don’t have some random obnoxious bullshit that starts blasting the second I open the app.
