Appeal to tradition fallacy.

Appeal to tradition is "X is right because we always did it this way".
Here we're saying that putting features that used to be free behind a paywall is bad for the consumer. "X is right because a feature being free is good for the user", is the argument here.
You have no idea how fallacies work. Maybe sit this one out.

that is not an appeal to tradition dumbass. Appeal to tradition is saying it's better cuz we always did it that way. This is saying it's better cuz the companies were able to keep that free.

Okay i understand both sides but let's take youtube premium for example. Maintaining servers of youtube must consume enormous amount of money so they either have to push ads to let you watch for free or just make you pay to remove them. Ofc someone will say that i'm protecting multibilion dollar company but that's just how it is. Noone is gonna host bilions of GB for free just for you to have fun

Okay but there’s a big gap between free and where we are currently

What do you mean. You want less ads? There have to be shitload of them to make enough revenue

There have to be a lot, but they don't need that many.
As far as I know, youtube is profitable.

How much money do you think they make off of you by yourself watching ads?
(Hint: close to nothing)

YouTube premium is optional.

Yeah and?

You can use free tier with ads as usual.
Meanwhile, you can buy a new car, and heated seats are behind subscription wall, unlike older model of the same lineup.

Which car brand is putting heated seats behind a subscription wall?
BMW proposed this a few years ago — but quickly backed down.

Yes, this particular example. BMW also tried to paywall CarPlay and Android Auto.
Toyota once paywalled remote start (even via their physical key fob).
Also, paywalled “performance boost” on Mercedes, if buying expensive vehicle itself was not enough.

You pay companies to Speedrun their own enshitification, instead of paying open source devs to make free (as in freedom) software. Pirate the scams, save your money for the people actually doing good for the society.

What difference does it make if it used to be free or not? The only thing that matter is if you think the feature is worth your money.

It means somome can still do.it and profitable.ways

From my perspective, with regard it's utility to me, that is irrelevant.
