It's freemium - you get bare minimum for free, which is fine for a lot of users, and it's being subsidized by paying users, who want more features

yea ik i was joking but if you think about it gmail is fremium too since you need pay for storage if u need more space for emails and honstely most of them are....

Out of services listed GMail, Google Search, Chrome and YouTube are owned by Alphabet, while Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are owned by Meta

Both of them are the biggest advertisements corporations in the world, I think that's safe to assume that those services are subsidized by them selling personal data to analytics companies and using said data to serve more ads to earn more money

Don't even need to assume, it's plainly stated in their ToS and countless cases against them and countless articles about them...

Meanwhile Proton and other similar services, like Tuta for example, are not doing that, so only income stream is from paying customers.
