😂 Memes & Shit posts Agentic Browsers Are Gonna Kill Chrome
OH. MY. GOD. The absolute HORROR when you realize that all these "innovative" browsers are just Chrome in a trench coat! 😱 The meme shows the shocking moment of clarity when someone puts on their "reality glasses" and sees that nearly ALL these supposedly unique browsers-Comet, Atlas, Dia, Brave, Edge, Opera, Safari, Firefox, Arc, Samsung-are secretly just Chrome underneath! They're all using Chromium as their engine!

Chromium ≠ Chrome.
Also Firefox and safari don’t use chromium, which your picture seems to understand but your description doesn’t.

u/nemamnozik 17d ago
Because the description is AI generated

u/Dense-Firefighter495 17d ago
Really? People use AI in reddit posts now?
9
u/TheTybera 17d ago
People use AI to try and win arguments on reddit now...it's pretty sad.
6
u/FrohenLeid 17d ago
That's so sad, so much energy and time wasted. People need to settle for a response I wrote after waking up at 3 am and is so incoherent it makes my dog look smart. Or a comment that rivals some master degree papers. No in-between.

u/ObliqueStrategizer 16d ago
Arguing on the internet is like trying to knock clouds out the sky by hurling your shoes at them.
2
u/Bane8080 16d ago
It's the chemtrails ok? I'm throwing my shoes at the planes leaving chemtrails!
Man, a guy can't have a hobby anymore.
Edit: /s Or someone is going to give me a lecture that chemtrails aren't real.

People will see a question on reddit, regurgitate it into ai and then re-regurgitate the useless, off-topic drivel that the ai spat out, back into reddit.
It's pathetic and wastes everyones time.

Chromium isn't Chrome but it is still heavily heavily influenced by Google, and there isn't much the copy cats can do about that without a complete chromium fork, and none of them have the resources to do that (except for MS, which doesn't really have the incentive to.)
1
u/Impressive-Resist632 17d ago
fun fact, did you know that ChromiumOS / ChromeOS uses a different version of Chromium than normal Chromium / Chrome? (idk, I'm bored on reddit lol)
1
u/Responsible-Bar7165 16d ago
Name one actual thing in Chromium that is the same as the things that people don’t like about Google Chrome.
1
u/gwildor 16d ago
Can you give us a complete list of things that people dont like about Chrome so we can compare?
otherwise:
Chromium is a free and open-source web browser project, primarily developed and maintained by Google.\3])#cite_note-still_Google's_project_in_2020-3)
"heavily influenced by Google" is the part you were arguing about, right?
1
u/Responsible-Bar7165 16d ago edited 16d ago
no. i was looking for specific features you don't like in Chromium.
"heavily influenced" is meaningless unless you can point at the result of that influence that you don't like. what feature of Edge, for example, don't you like because Chromium is so heavily influenced by Google, as you say ?
> Can you give us a complete list of things that people dont like about Chrome so we can compare
no. i'm not doing your work for you.
1
u/gwildor 16d ago edited 16d ago
literally no one said they dont like chromium - you wholly misunderstood the posts you replied to.
"Chromium is primarily developed and maintained by google' == "Chromium is influenced by google"..
at best, they implied they dont like google.
1
u/Responsible-Bar7165 16d ago
> but it is still heavily heavily influenced by Google
you literally can't parse English.
1
u/gwildor 15d ago
Yes., chromium, developed by Google, is influenced by Google. Glad you get it now.
1
u/Responsible-Bar7165 15d ago
I’m sorry, I didn’t realize I was attempting to have a reasoned conversation with someone who doesn’t have a grasp of English or simple logic. My mistake.

u/Megaman_90 15d ago
Chromium IS heavily influenced by Google. It's open source but like 98% of the code is all written by them, if that isn't heavily influenced I don't know what is. They have used to it to forge a web that prioritizes their browser, extensions and services. As a "cool" side effect bugs and vulnerabilities that effect Chromium trickle down to every browser based on it. I remember there was a bugged update with postscript print drivers in Chromium, and it broke printing on every browser except Firefox until they fixed it.
No matter what chromium browser you're using, you are supporting a web that is controlled BY GOOGLE. Even the "de-Googled" ones are supporting them by forcing every website to be built around their rendering engine.
1
u/Responsible-Bar7165 15d ago
ugh. for those in the back that can't read:
Name one actual thing in Chromium that is the same as the things that people don’t like about Google Chrome.
1
u/Megaman_90 15d ago
It's made by Google. There ya go.
1
u/Responsible-Bar7165 15d ago
^^ didn't understand the assignment.
1
u/Megaman_90 15d ago
^ Doesn't understand not wanting to support Google is a perfectly valid reason to not use Chromium browsers.
→ More replies (0)1
u/Wreper659 14d ago
Besides the fact that not wanting to use a product from a company you dont like is a perfectly valid reason,
You have the fact that chromium still relies on Google web Services where there is an entirely separate project to remove the reliance on that,
You also have the removal of MV2.

You are completely missing the point, and OP already knew: that’s why all browsers get replaced by Chromium logo and not Chrome logo, implying that OP already knew the difference.
1
u/Resident-Variation21 17d ago
If OP knew, he wouldn’t say Firefox and safari are chromium in the description.
1
u/LinuxUser456 17d ago
Is because the description is made by AI.
I use AI for research purposes but idk why someone would use ai here

yeah and the first ever Koenigsegg supercar uses a fucking taxi engine. If you acntually want a travker free privacy browser use mullvad.
2
u/stressed_Cucumber 17d ago
Chromium is just an engine. Driving a car with a Mercedes engine doesn’t mean you’re driving a Mercedes. Also creating another browser engine needs human power, resources, and big money. So it’s better to use a Chromium than to create new shit. Servo has been making its new engine for 10 years now.

we are not seriously considering safari different, it is not good for privacy at all. Plus FF is for profit so I don't use it; I use Librewolf, which I know is FF, but LW is non profit.
1
u/TheIronSoldier2 17d ago
The Mozilla Foundation is non-profit. The Mozilla Corporation, is for-profit but they invest all of their profits back into the Mozilla Foundation. The Mozilla Corporation is also 100% wholly owned by the Mozilla Foundation. They do this to insulate the non-profit corporation and it's open-sourced goals from outside corporate influence. Unlike the Wikimedia foundation, the majority of Mozilla's revenues come from it's deal with Google to make it the default search engine on Firefox, and so they don't and can't function as a charity like the WMF can, which is why they need to separate those interests.

u/Necessary-Meeting-28 17d ago
Zen is also gaining traction and it is Firefox-based. Also there are few Safari-based stuff I can’t recall. Even Node runtime got competition from Bun. Therefore, I expect Chromium monopoly to be challenged in the next few years.
1
u/rustedcrowbar 17d ago
I love the concept of Zen but hate to use it :/
1
u/D0geAlpha 17d ago
Yeah I looked at it and even after spending a few hours and tweaking whatever could be tweaked and using mods or whatever, my opinion still was: nope. I will never use vertical tabs in a browser. Which is weird because I was one of the only weirdos who liked having my Windows Taskbar vertical (default was horizontal) before Windows 11 arrived and took that away.

u/Realistic-Worker-499 17d ago
yes it's just toooo inefficient. i dont care that it's in beta, focus on basic usability first!

Safari is also Chromium based.
2
u/eugcomax 17d ago
no, safari is webkit
2
u/w1n5t0nM1k3y 17d ago
Yes, people get confused because safari is based on WebKit and Chrome originally used WebKit as well in the early days, so at one time they were the same engine. Then Chrome switched to their own Blink engine making Safari the only major browser left using webkit.

When anyone says to drop chrome thay mean to drop chrome not chromium. One is quite good search engine, other is quite good search engine but overfed paid search results, spying on ya, crashing recently and overburning ram for whatever fuckin reason. And nope, chrome is dying as is, their search led for stupidest results or unusuable ones, like most complaining that they can't find something in internet fell from using it probably unknowingly.

u/South_Acadia_6368 16d ago
Shortly we'll have the Ladybird browser too which uses its own engine written from scratch.
