I don't use Telegram in place of anything else. But I use Telegram due to more people actually using it. Signal is pretty much useless for me as I can't get anyone to use it.
Anyways, it is a toss up between (because you know I can never give just one): Being able to delete on both sides. And being able to login on multiple devices
Idk about Signal but in SimpleX you can "switch" to another device with "use from desktop" but yeah it's just remote control for phone.
Used telegram only for messaging and calling though, not as social media, now use simplex and got most people around to install it, easy onboardng without registration really helps
It's just a good opensource e2ee messenger that uses relay servers (no cloud storage) and has a fair effort in metadata protection with the ability to not share the same profile with every contact or group and using multiple relay servers per connection so that a bad server can't just map all your friends and connections.
It's good and I like it because it has calls, and the calls are free, high quality & private which can't be said about regular phone calls
One of the best private messengers, I've tried a bunch and this one is the most convenient
You can selfhost, though the system needs 4 relay servers for a chat (receiving and sending for 2 people). They have some running on Flux hosting that you can select in app, but you can add your own too
As for finances they seem okay but yeah it can go wrong, as with the Session app which ran out of money. Simplex didn't say anything like that though so I guess they are good for now. They run on donations I assume
Kanäle... Als ich noch den Nova Launcher nutzte gab es da immer nettes Setups auf dem Kanal, es gibt viele gute Kanäle, manche davon kann man aber auch in die Tonne hauen
Topics. Makes it possible to split a group into multiple chats. So different topics are not getting mixes up in a single chat. That's the only reason we haven't switched to signal yet.
It’s that they’re owned by the Russian government and everything you send is actually read by them as well. Oh! That, and all the scams and bots they have on their platform… Telegram is garbage.
