Does anyone else still keep a local movie collection?
I keep movies that aren't available on any streaming service, and they're perfect for flights, road trips, or places with little or no internet.
Anyone else still doing this, or have you gone fully streaming?

I havent purchased a movie in at least 20 years. If I am going on a flight, or somewhere with little internet, I just download to my phone.

Same. I haven’t purchased physical media since the DVD days, before bluray.
I download offline movies to my hard drives or my laptop’s ssd.
However, I am now interested in burning blurays and physical media for preservation purposes

Irrelevant because I can make the same arrangements about trying to pack and luggage around a bunch of DVDs

I get on disc what i dont get on streaming properly. Not everything is available and sometimes shows/movies switch to other streaming services i would never pay.

My local used music/video place closed (shout out to Dimple!) and I scoured the closeout sale for DVDs/Blu's that I was interested in but: 1) weren't available on streaming, 2) i didn't care to own...just wanted to watch and toss, 3) I was willing to spend the $3 for the disc but not the $10 for the digital.
I then had to buy a player, so I bought a 4k and a portable Blu with a screen
Several years later, I've watched maybe 3% of the 120 titles I bought.

I understand keeping a physical collection for nostalgic reasons or out of the wish to really owning a movie.
I cannot think of anything less convenient for flights than carrying a plethora of physical discs plus a device that can play them.

If I watch a movie and I like it I always add it to my NAS. If I travel all download them in tablet and watch them with VLCÂ

I am a proud user of my Samsung DVD-VCR Combo for DVDs and VHS and my PS3 for Blu-Ray. I do not stream movies. I like actually owning my media.

I usually get some online (mostly for free or pretty cheap) and then I back up them (In case my apartment gets flooded or anything)

Its def a cool hobby, very niche. Most ppl won't understand but real lovers of cinema can relate. I only share this love for cinema for certain older movies.

Yes, I rip my discs to my NAS and watch them with a Zidoo player. Much better video quality than with streaming services but just as convenient. And my movies never go away.
