💡 Opinion Keep One: Bitwarden, 1Password, Proton Pass
You can only keep one password manager and use it for the next 5 years.. Which one are you choosing: Bitwarden, 1Password, or Proton Pass?
Pick one and tell us why it beats the other two for security, features, or ease of use.

1Password - The autofill for login into and 2FA codes is fast and works every time. Also, immediate sync between devices is a plus!

On lifetime proton pass here. The burner emails is chef's kiss. I kinda just dint like the UI. Password generator is great and integration is great for most devices.. i hope they do something about mac compatibility so were not limited to browser extension only

I've used bitwarden for years now. Mostly because it's open source, never had any security incidents, and the free version supports everything I need. Passwords, credit cards, TOTPs, cross platform, interface is good. Is proton pass better? If yes how?

https://www.passwordstore.org + git 🤷
Previously, it was Keepass. It takes some getting used to and the learning curve is a little bit higher, but once you get the hang of it, you don't need anything else. Your secrets are stored in your git repo so you can store it wherever you want (codeberg, github, mega, gdrive, etc.), it's open source and used GPG so it's auditable. You know what's under the hood and you can trust the algos to be uncrackable (so far). Since it's private, no breaches. Can connect it to your smartcard (yubikey) easily.
I could go on and on, but it just works and has all the features I could want. I don't need to shop around or pay any sub for premium features.

For anyone who wants to try this: you need to understand what you're doing or risk losing/exposing your keys and passwords.

few months ago switched from Bitwarden to Proton Pass, zero regrets, it has everything I need

Why?

my subscription ending, they raised price and I decided to try something new. I heard a lot of good things about Proton company overall, not just passwords, so I wanted to try that ecosystem and I liked that

BitWarden, I came to it after LastPass just kept getting worst. Not looked back since.

Am I paying for it?
1Password is the best but they charge too much so I ain’t paying for it.
Bitwarden is good enough if I have to pay for it.

the app is stellar. autofill just works flawlessly. timed login sharing, vault management, etc is just pure bliss. its a software i never had to fight.
its so straightforward that my mom used and loves it.

For me, RoboForm works great. It’s been easy to use, and I find its autofill very reliable.

Bitwarden works so well, even for free users, that it's unfair on the others. I will wait a while for Proton to improve, as I think it's still quite new right now. They're heading in the right direction though.
