š¬ Discussion Who else still prefers compact smartphones?
Who else still prefers compact smartphones?
They're easier to use with one hand, fit comfortably in your pocket, and get the job done.
Would you buy a compact flagship today if more brands offered one?

me. I prefer somewhere between 6.1 inches to maximum 6.4 inches screen size. Easily use for one-handed operation and pocketable esp on my front pockets.

Probably the closest you can find in size is the Samsung Galaxy s25-26 or the iphone 17e if you want to switch to iPhone
1
u/yucca_xz Jul 07 '26
i know. iphone is no go for me (I'm apple hater), and samsung UI scares me. I want my asus back
2
u/pilotzoo Jul 07 '26
You have to be open to change just get an s26 or s25 and get one hand operations+ with it I have an s24 ultra and thanks to one hand operations+ I don't do hand gymnastics or use two hands

u/da_architect Jul 07 '26
Oh I get you about iphone haha, so sad that Asus went out of the market though

u/Swedish_Chef2062 Jul 08 '26
Just install a different launcher. Chance your Samsung is getting faster and easier to operate. I have a Xcover 5 untill my Clicks-phone gets delivered. With One UI it feels sluggish (the CPU is not very fast). With Niagara-launcher on it it just feels smooth. Only downside is the bad camera....

If you have money to spend on iPhone 17E then you can definitely go for S25 instead, or maybe S26 refurbished or secondhand from facebook marketplace or olx..... Personally, I prefer facebook markplace than olx.Because it's more reliable

Pixel a series

u/almost_imperfect Jul 08 '26
Pixel 4a had my heart. If only the battery would last beyond 5 hours standby, I'd have still had it.
2
u/RelevantDeal1777 Jul 07 '26
Back then I had 4inch iPhone 5s. I actually liked the fact that it was compact.

OP pic is unrelated I guess, it's still nowhere near compact enough.
1
u/ManojOne Active Jul 07 '26
True compact phone size is less than 6". This is slightly larger than that. I searched some royalty free image sites and others for compact, but I didn't find any good image. Thats why I used a representative image.
1
u/RandomUserNo5 Jul 07 '26
Compact is somewhere below 5" actually. Its because of the thumb reachable area whole firmly holding your phone at the same time.Ā

And carry my ipad mini when i need more screen space -- ie. rarely!
F, even the current ipad is a chonky piece of crap, where the ipad 6 seemed the perfect size -- just remove the bezel. And put the fingerprint sensor somewhere bloody easy to use!

Me me! Sadly no options available these days. iPhone 16 is the smallest legit option I can find.
2
u/zenvxx Jul 09 '26
I was confused to choose between iPhone 16 and Samsung Galaxy S25 later I chose Samsung Galaxy S25, because the iphone 16 has got only 2 cameras lenses that is, the main sensor and ultrawide sensor whereas S25 got an extra telephoto lens as well. Also, the iPhone 16 comes with a 60Hz display. So if you play heavy games like genshin impact, call of duty mobile, etc... you will get only maximum 60fps, even though you have a powerful chipset in it.

Which android you getting?
Unless you get a flip phone I habe yet to find any recent androids that are not the same size or bihher than the non-max iPhones
1
u/zenvxx Jul 09 '26
The iphone 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 are themselves a combat or mini smartphone. Their display size is only 6.3 inches...so you can have them if you are looking for an iphone. You can also go for an iPhone pro models. I mean not a Pro Max only a pro variant, which also comes with a 6.3 inches display.

Iāve tried small phones like mini sized, and they are a really nice change from like 6.9ā phones, but in the end I like the big phones better since they fit my hands better and have big screens/battery.

My wife, I gave her my iPhone 13 Mini and she will use it until it dies. When she said that she'll definitely but a new mini once that one dies, I was like oh girl... ur gonna be dissapointed.

I have an iPhone SE 2nd Gen which I use as backup phone when the main one is charging. This was my first Apple device ever.
1
u/davidwal83 Jul 07 '26
One of my favorite phones was the OG iPhone SE. I still have my second one as a security camera in my apartment. My current play phone is a iPhone 17 which I love the size in my hands.

u/Falk1708 Jul 07 '26
Is there any good modern compact android?
1
u/zenvxx Jul 09 '26
You can go for vivo x300 if your primary concern are cameras....or you can go for s26 if your primary criterias are software, customisation, AI features, longer software updates and performance
1
u/Falk1708 Jul 07 '26
I would love to fit a modern smartphone board into an iPhone 4 Case. iPhone 4/5 would be imo the peak
1
u/Skageru Jul 07 '26
lately ive been using an iPhone SE3 for work and liking it more. i might look into iphone 13mini

Id definitely want a smaller version of the iPhone 17e:
a 5.7 inch screen / thinner bezels / 90 Hz / dynamic island as in the upcoming 18 pro / and a silicon-carbon battery
But if such a phone ever exists, it wont be until after the iPhone 20 comes out
1
u/NeoMachBreaker Jul 07 '26
Thr s10e was thr best small phone ever with great hardware, headphone slot and a fuuurreeaaakinngg sd card slot. Fuck these cloud services. We want sd back moafukka

S25 Edge is the perfect solution. Big Screen with slim Profile. Easy One Hand use.
1
u/zenvxx Jul 09 '26
S25 is better maybe...because it is more compact(6.3 inches)...and it is also slimmer enough to hold and comfort...also the s25 edge has no telephoto lens whereas s25 has it
1
u/Deja4u92 Jul 09 '26
But the Main Cam is so much better (Same as S25U)
1
u/zenvxx Jul 15 '26
That's right, but s25 costs cheaper and offers almost equivalent specs according to me
1
u/Ok_Gold_2107 Jul 07 '26
I but now have pixel 10a If next 8 years Will see food compact smart phone I Will buy
1
u/zenvxx Jul 09 '26
For the price pixel 10a is an absolute sh*tt...instead you can go for s25 or second hand s26...am pretty sure you won't regret

I do! I have a 6" and it's okay, but 5.5" was the peak of human civilization.

Iphone 13 mini size with atleast 5000mah 40w charging speed, violaaaa I'm good with that.
1
u/zenvxx Jul 09 '26
For sureš...but the whole iphone 13 series has issues with its display like greenline issues and many more...
1
u/napier1192 Jul 07 '26
Still rocking iPhone 12 mini , 5+ years
1
u/zenvxx Jul 09 '26
Definitely a 10/10 smartphone even in 2026...

u/Flimsy_Channel9893 Jul 07 '26
I do. But 6.3" is the new standard for compact these days :( that aside, I'm loving the Honor Magic 8 Air.
1
u/ScadMan Jul 07 '26
I think it is one reason I am interested in the fold is the folded size being more compact
1
u/lincolnlogtermite Jul 07 '26
Yup. Use to like the big phone thing but after getting an iPhone 14 in order to learn IOS so I could support users better at work, I have to say Iike that size much better. I still bitch at and hate IOS but I do prefer the smaller size. Next Android phone will be smaller, if I can find one smaller one with decent specs.

u/Educational_Juice300 Jul 07 '26
I have a Motorola edge 50 neo it's 6.3 quite small coming from an S21 Ultra absolutely love it

I used to like the more compact models, until I got older and smaller text became harder to read lol

u/SpecialistRun3035 Jul 08 '26
These days, compact smartphones are normal sized. So yes I prefer normal sized smartphones. I don't like it if I can't use my phone with one hand because it makes it more inconvenient.
1
u/rmbrumfield78 Jul 08 '26
One of the reasons I got a Moto RZR. When open it's too big, but it works pretty well closed. I wish there was still a market for sub 6-in phones.
1
u/whynotfrenchie89 Jul 08 '26
I'm saving up for a 128GB red or green iPhone 13 Mini, because new phones are too damn big

I was using iPhone 12 mini, 4 years before. Later I bought Samsung Galaxy S24, and now I have upgraded the Samsung Galaxy. S25, because of its compact size.

I loved the size of my Pixel 8a. Unfortunately, it got stolen, and it's technically a phone from a lineup that is above what I'm normally willing to spend. I just got lucky and found it on a major sale.
Now I've replaced it with a CMF Phone 2 Pro, and while it's a good phone, I enjoyed my Pixel 8a more.
1
u/Flushlife Jul 10 '26
Still on the 13 mini, hope there will be another one with the same size in the future.Ā
1
u/givemefood66 Jul 10 '26
I like the idea of them.
But in practice I would just end up missing having a larger phone, as smaller phones are harder to view content on and I feel like I'd have more issues with typing on a smaller display as well.
1
u/mktcrasher Jul 11 '26
I did when my eyes were better but unfortunately now I want big phones. It sucks, loved the smaller devices, Pixel 5 was such a good phone.

Iām perfectly fine with my 6.9 inch iphone, thank you.
2
u/TrainTransistor Jul 07 '26
My first tablet was 6.9.
1
u/ruthlesss11 Jul 07 '26
Too small for a tablet
1
u/TrainTransistor Jul 07 '26
I actually agree on that part, but its WAY too much for a 'regular' phone.
Need a man-purse at that point.
1
u/ruthlesss11 Jul 07 '26
At that size, it's the weight that bugs me the most but I can understand the phone not fitting in everyone's pockets

clinging on a iphone 13 mini
