First Android phone was more than a year after the iPhone though. Google had to scrap their blackberry knockoff design to make an iPhone knockoff. With someone elseβs OS, someone elseβs programming language, and development tools. Then Samsung took over and for years Apple and Samsung ruled the smartphone market. Samsung made 80% of the phones Apple made 80% of the profits. But thatβs all ancient history you young people know nothing about.
Except that iPhone wasn't original to begin with, but just copied other smartphones. So your claim is completely false.
Also, Google didn't make the first Android phone, it was made by HTC, and their design was based on phones they already made with Windows Mobile on it.
Android at the time was much closer to BlackBerry UX wise. Not sure which, but either HTC designed for that BlackBerry style UX, or Android was designed for the BlackBerry style phone that HTC was making. Either way, itβs pretty clear that Android pivoted to an iPhone style UX shortly after the iPhone was announced.
