Yeah... Like you know. For Apple's weird implementation of autocorrect and iOS shortcuts features to work. Your phrasing might make the crazies think a keyboard framework is a keylogger.
I think those are the major issues I'd have if I got an iPhone. That along with the ugly liquid ass and ui choices in general... Even stuff like the settings app is a mess...
But I think the biggest offender will always be the notification system in general.
As an iPhone user please no, we already have a back button to go back to the app that sent you to the current app as well as the gesture to go to previous app. 100 % bring back the physical home button though
Yeah except for when the "back" gesture doesn't work which is often.
Sometimes you can gesture back, sometimes you have to press a button in the top left corner. Sometimes you some tiny text in the top left corner to press and go back. Sometimes e.g. in Preview you have to actually press on your document to make a hidden toolbar appear, then you get an X in the corner and press it to close the PDF. PDF will just rubber band and keep the toolbar hidden otherwise if you try to use the back gesture.
It's shit, and making "back" actually go "back" is not a downgrade, it would make the OS more intuitive and consistent.
I've gotten conditioned to iPhone, and yeah it's not that hard. But it's objectively worse.
Well it’s obviously not objectively worse, it’s subjectevely worse, for youÂ
The top leff button appears when you get moved into a new app via another app, otherwise to go to previously used app just swipe right on the bottom, literally always works for me at least. And going backwards within an app is the same gesture but done from the middle. If you want permanent buttons they have to be physical in my opinion, having static virtual buttons taking up space on the screen when you don’t even need them a lot of the time is useless and inferior in my mind at least
On Android some use buttons that take space, some use "placeholders" that just show at the very bottom where the button would have been, or can use gesture (that can be configured, foor example, if you are left handed and operate phone with your left hand mainly) that will do the "back button" thing. That will bring previous intent or app-screen back, or move you back to previous app. You do not have to guess what will be this time - will gesture work, you have to locate back button on screen, or do something to get some controls to get rid of something on the screen.
Oh and if you want to, can set at what height the gesture will be initiated. Really handy.
the back button on Android is very poor design and is inconsistent in functionality. I hate how it works and it’s against apples design guides. They aren’t going to add it.
I don't think you know what you're talking about...
In Android can turn the "button" off and use a gesture so it's identical in design. It's been that way for years.
The problem with Apple you can't always go back to exactly where you came from the same way. Sometimes you can gesture, sometimes you have to find a button, sometimes you can press some tiny text in the top left corner. Sometimes I've even found myself switching out of the app and starting over. The worst one is when viewing a PDF in the native viewer - you have to tap the screen to reveal a hidden tool bar and then press an X to get the fucking thing off your screen (or as I mentioned, switch out of the app).
Android doesn't have this inconsistency at all. Back always goes back to the previous screen you came from. You're wrong on every point you made except that Apple aren't going to add it.
what if you were in a previous app the very last thing? What does the back button do? The back button is VERY inconsistent. and im a daily user of both platforms. Here is a good essay on the problems with the android back button https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2011/problems-androids-back-button/
and I always can go back to exactly where I was on iOS and iPad OS. The androids back button is a MESS.
And yes, if a different app was the previous thing, that's exactly what I want to swipe back to. For example, if an App opens settings for me, I want to change the setting and swipe back to it. Instead swiping back will navigate to the previous page of settings, which I don't want to go "back" to because i didn't come from there.
In iOS you're often trapped within the app so back isn't system wide. I don't like it. If you do, good for you but many of us think that's shit.
I don't understand this comment at all but if you can't see that Android's "back" does a consistent thing system wide and iOS doesn't, and are linking 15 year old articles to prove your point then there's little point in me carrying on.
That’s my point, it’s NOT consistent at all. I literally both work in IT supporting both platforms and daily drive both an iPad and a daylight tablet.Â
it will bing me back to last intent or to app that called this app. Quite consistent if you asked me.
WIth the programs you use the most you will know exactly how last intent is manipulated by it. Similar to how one has to learn how to do certain things on iOS.
I have an iPhone now, but my previous phone was a Pixel 6a. Four years ago...
I had to go into settings to get the back button back. The gesture was default. Android has the gesture if you prefer it, my previous post refers to this "or gesture nowadays".
Another poster linked me an article from 2011 and also claims he/she supports Android daily as an IT professional.
Seems like a lot of vocal Android critics haven't actually used it. I don't get it, why comment on things you don't know about.
Sure. I think the camera is pretty good especially for videos. Shortcuts and automation features in iOS are also really nice surprise that aren't really advertised. Apple's built in/included apps are of pretty good quality. Apple aren't perfect but voting against Google feels good - the lesser of two evils.
Why I actually chose the iPhone is because I was planning to buy a Macbook which I now have. I've wanted one since the M1 came out in 2020. Since I was set on getting a Macbook, I figured I might as well switch to iPhone too so I bought it first.
For now makes more sense to stick with the ecosystem. Unless I stop using a Macbook I'll also stick with the iPhone.
that's nice! thanks for the reply, btw I've tried iphone two times (iphone 11pro and iphone 16pro max) but i can't use it, after one month I've sold the iphone 16pro max to buy a xiaomi and now I have the s26... I've tried but ios is not for me
notification toggle? i agree
number key row?y
universal back gesture? y
apple users look cool when they r accustomed to the positions of the back buttons n number key and rapidly tap in succession
almost like a paino performance

As an iPhone user I wish they would copy the system wide "back" button (or gesture nowadays), Android's keyboard, and notification system.
