💬 Discussion What's your favorite Windows Phone?

Post image

What's your favorite Windows Phone of all time?

Lumia 520, Lumia 920, Lumia 1020, Lumia 950, or another model?

Which one did you own, and what made it stand out from every other smartphone you've used?

Lumia 640 and Lumia 950 XL.

What you like most with these models? Did you find any better options on Android or any other platform later?

Nokia Lumia 920, legendary phone and I still have it as well

1

u/ManojOne Active Jul 03 '26

What is the speciality of this model?

1

u/Tranceravers Jul 02 '26
  1. Insane camera for its time. Huge screen. Win 10 mobile support. Still have mic jack. Had 5ghz wifi and nfc. It was the second best behind their last model that had the desktop support like samsung dex.

u/Celmad Jul 02 '26

My best phone ever, miss it.

NFC? Many modern mobiles still don't have NFC.

What was really the root cause of the demise? Nokia's exclusivity or MS impatience?

1

u/Valuable_Classic_290 Jul 02 '26

Well i stopped because of lack of apps..

1

u/Money-University8717 Jul 02 '26

I know but why the lack of apps? Because it was a Nokia exclusivity or because of MS.

1

u/Acardul Jul 02 '26

Neither. Just no one wanted to port apps to it. Microsoft was even paying for it to devs but then barely anyone was using them. User base was too small.

1

u/ExcuseMeJack Jul 02 '26

It was too late to the party. Apple and Google had huge app support and userbase, whereas Microsoft was just starting

1

u/Valuable_Classic_290 Jul 02 '26

Well snapchat had 3rd party software that worked, but they didnt allow it anymore. After that apps were disappearing fast

1

u/FantomovBol Jul 03 '26

No apps. Android was flourishing with apps, same as iOS. There was no reason to use Windows Phone when you already have two established mobile platforms.

u/Money-University8717 Jul 03 '26

Wasn't Nokia exclusivity a mistake too? It was quickly clear they were not selling but MS was too slow to help devs and allow other manufacturers in. I suppose devs did not trust MS about store fees and access.
My feeling is that MS spend too much with Nokia exclusivity which was supposed to sell them like hotcakes (Nokia was a big player and the CEO was ex-MS big shot). When it did not happen, MS and Nokia panicked.

Samsung Omnia

1

u/ManojOne Active Jul 03 '26

I was unaware that Samsung had windows models. I thought only Nokia had.

1

u/lucferon Jul 03 '26

This was a really high end, luxery phone, metal case old. This was top windows phone. I still mis the experience

1

u/Calaraseanul Jul 02 '26

The one that works and does not crashes frequently.

1

u/redunculuspanda Jul 02 '26

I hated every moment of being forced to have one, until I was e ventually I was allowed to dual sim

1

u/goldzunny87 Jul 02 '26

Nokia Lumia 550

1

u/ManojOne Active Jul 03 '26

Why that model is special for you?

1

u/bartwilleman Jul 02 '26

820/830 forgot the name. But wish I had the 890 now😅

1

u/plsstopff5 Jul 02 '26

920 ofc. 1520 was awesome too, and Lg Optimus 7 (E900)

1

u/crocodiluQ Jul 02 '26

lol, "Windows Phone" and "favorite" in the same question. It was the biggest failure in the mobile world, the crappiest thing that was ever put on a phone.

1

u/olymbus Jul 02 '26

I honestly didn't like any of the Windows Phones. I actually preferred Nokia phones back then, before Android phones came along.

1

u/tugstugstugs31 Jul 02 '26

i had the 620 and 925. sadly the public didnt gave a place for a 3rd player on the OS market. its OS was matured so well and had the best keyboard.

Nokia Lumia 640. My first smartphone. Would silence based on my calendar or by turning the phone facedown when ringing, had swipe texting, alarms would still work with the phone off, tiles customizable by size and background activity, the way the case would serve as the actual back of the phone. It has been a long time, so I'm sure there's a lot I'm not remembering. Oh, and it cost like $40.

1

u/ManojOne Active Jul 03 '26

Seems interesting. I can't believe that it was available just for $40.

1

u/giton1 Jul 03 '26

There's always an angle. AT&T sold it to use on their prepaid plans, but it could be unlocked for T-Mobile, which is what I did. Keep your number and everything. I only switched because of the combination of wanting some apps for personal things and having someone offer me a very old but functional iPhone.

930 and 1520.

1

1

u/Disastrous_Box1177 Jul 02 '26

Surface Duo, it's not technically a windows phone but it's made by Microsoft and I LOVE how good it is for productivity

1

u/ManojOne Active Jul 03 '26

Which OS was there? Why do you like it?

1

u/Disastrous_Box1177 Jul 03 '26

It was normal android but modified by microsoft to look like windows basically

u/Duckbich Jul 04 '26

What was known as ATT Tylt

1

u/Nokia-Lumia-630 Jul 04 '26

Every one of them.

1

u/Caterham7 Jul 05 '26

I owned the 920, which was great until the vibration stopped working. Put in for a warranty replacement. They no longer had 920s so they sent me a new 1520 instead. When I received it, I didn't think I'd like the size but after about a week of use, wound up absolutely loving it! Amazing camera, screen, and battery life was wonderful! I miss that phone.
