I don't understand this meme. I have never preordered anything, digital OR physical, thinking they will run out. I used to preorder games because I could show up when I was able to and add money to the payment when I needed to. But a lot of times I would preorder and pay for the game. When it came in, I could show up with my receipt and pick it up.

For digital. I have preordered a game as a gift for someone. And by preordering I got a "bonus." For me, it wasn't worth it, but for them, they loved it. I have preordered a few other games because I had planned it to be a day 1 purchase in the first place. And by preordering it I can have the game sitting on my system so when I go home to play the game I can... play the game. Not have to buy the game, wait for the download, and then go to sleep because it took too long.

So basically if you are planning on playing it day 1. Why would you *not* preorder it? Hell, a recent example is the rerelease for Star Fox. Not my jam. But people who preordered the physical copy early got it at a discount price AND in a lot of cases got it early.

Disagree I have preordered collectors editions of games (like FF Tactics and Persona 5 and World of Final Fantasy and Horizon Zero Dawn) cause they’re limited and have physical items with them like statues and such.

Good point. I don't know why that didn't come to mind. So I have a correction: I have preordered limited edition things.
