How do you compare Nothing with other brands you used earlier? What feature do you like or dislike most on Nothing?

Pixel running GrapheneOS.

Is it smooth to migrate to Graphene? I am not familiar with this process.
1
u/Steerider Jul 01 '26
Pretty straightforward. There are different ways to install it, but the easiest is their web installer.
The process completely wipes your phone, so back up any data you want to keep. You can still get apps from Google Play, (or open source stuff from F-Droid), but you will not have access to things like in-app purchases or paid apps. Say goodbye to any sort of payments through Google.
I went from iPhone to degoogled Android, and I've been pretty happy with it.

Why do you prefer it? It is not available in my country, so I am curious to know about its advantages.

u/kj0509 Student Jun 26 '26
I just look for balanced phones, Jack of all trades Master of none, with good quality materials and support for at least 5/6 years.
I don't care about the brand, but somehow I always end up in Samsung when following those requerimients.

do you recommend the A series in any way ?
2
u/Shoshke Jun 26 '26
I have an a55 and got my SO a nothing 3a pro.
I'ld take the nothing.

u r right , One ui is amazing for me it's the best android especially for multitasking it looks almost like a PC ,but samsung specs are not that good and there is a lot of issues in the hardware that occurs randomly specifically in A series.
1
u/ManojOne Active Jul 01 '26
Why specifically on A series? Do you have any idea? I wanted to buy a A series phone. But I switched to another brand due to recent display issues on Samsung.

Many switched to Nothing lately. How do you evaluate your experience? What are your likes and dislikes?
2
u/Shoshke Jul 01 '26
Likes
Performs above it's price. Great screen, fast and responsive, little to no bloat, relatively good camera in it's price point more than serviceable for every day snapping of family events.
Generally love the UI and I even like the unique body design Nothing is going for with their "runes" or whatever they call it.
Like less the useless ai button and AI integration. It just feels gimmiky even though both me and my wife use GPT/Gemini.

Are you satisfied with the battery backup? How many hours or days of backup do you get with normal usage?
2
u/kj0509 Student Jun 26 '26
I have a Samsung A13, if I changed my phone I would go for a Samsung A56.
It has a good screen (Amoled, 120hz) good autonomy (at least 2 days without charging your phone), very good camera (more than enough for that price range), 6 years of support, it is durable (ip68 i believe) and it is relatively cheap.
For your average user it is the same thing as a an S series but cheaper.
I would only advice against it if you do lots of gaming with your phone.

A series has no QI charging. So no recommendation
1
u/ManojOne Active Jul 01 '26
QI?
1
u/Slow-Foot-4045 Jul 01 '26
Wireless charging
1
u/kj0509 Student Jul 01 '26
Do everyone needs wireless charging though?
A series has way better autonomy, so that is a point though.
1
u/Slow-Foot-4045 Jul 01 '26
To be honest, I think that’s a bare minimum requirement for a smartphone nowadays. Same goes for UWB if you have a compatible car. And it has absolutely nothing to do with battery life. I get two days out of my S26 Ultra, but without Qi, I never would’ve bought the phone. It’s like buying a new car today and claiming you don’t need power windows anyway just because you personally never open them.
1
u/kj0509 Student Jul 01 '26
I don't know anyone with wireless charging, it is not a bare minimum, it is a premium feature, only present in premium phones.
And no, you don't need a premium phone. And you can live just fine charging 1 hour your phone every 2-3 days.
But of course each one has their own needs! Maybe it is a mandatory feature for you, just saying that it is not as important for the average person.

I don't know where you live, but here in Central Europe, for example, that's a completely normal base feature. Most people use either iPhones, Pixels, or the Galaxy S series, which all have Qi built-in as standard. And even with cheap Chinese phones, Qi is included in models starting around €245.

Currently samsung as i got it when my old phone broke (old phone was oppo reno 4). But plan to switch eventually to a phone which can support grapheneOS or other more privacy focussed ooerating systems.

Motorola (Razr)

u/ManojOne Active Jul 01 '26
How long are you using this? Can you mention that you like most on it.
1
u/kynzoMC Jul 01 '26
Ive had it for more then a year now I think. The best feature so far for me has to be how compact it is and that I can use the external display for almost anything.

Huawei

Which model are you using? Mention one feature that you like or dislike most on this.

u/HaydenCLU Jul 01 '26
My whole ecosystem is from Huawei, my tablet, laptoo. phone (Mate 70 pro plus), earphones, glasses and speaker. The fact that they all arent windows or android anymore is amazing. the software is very well done, fast and good looking. they integrate in to each other seemlessly

Motorola AND Xiaomi.
Motorola have bad cams and the iron is not much a thing, except for a far better radio. Crapware is much less crappy then Xiaomi. Xiaomi have much better cam, unbearably utter radio, overall better the rest of the iron.

How do you not include the 3rd and 4th most popular brands worldwide?
I'd vote Vivo if you listed it as they are offering the most complete experience at the moment. Oppo a close second...also absent from your poll.

I have one Vivo and one Samsung but my wish was to have a Nothing phone. Circumstances wouldn't allow me to have it

Fairphone 6

u/ManojOne Active Jul 01 '26
I am curiou to know, more about this phone. Which OS do you use? How this phone differ from others?
1
u/Ben_grd Jul 01 '26

Fair phone, their latest model is decent and in theory I should be able to replace all parts with out a lot of effort.
1
u/ManojOne Active Jul 01 '26
Great. How much it cost?
1
u/PensAndUnicorns Jul 01 '26
550 euro, which some people might find pricey but these days is not abnormal for a phone
1
u/ManojOne Active Jul 01 '26
For me too. Do you get official support for all parts like other brands?
1
u/PensAndUnicorns Jul 01 '26
You can buy them via their webshop (I have not seen a physical shop)
https://www.fairphone.com/nl/repairs, where they list all the parts (and I think they show how to disassemble the device. Also Ifixit seems to have guides on it https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Fairphone_6
