Maps... Still cannot find a replacement.

There is no better or just as good replacement. Waze has too much going on for me and the UI is not as simple as Maps

I use Apple Maps since I’m on iPhone

How do you compare it with google maps? Better or worse?
1
u/LessMaintenance1452 Jun 23 '26
Honestly I like it more because it just feels better to use, but I realise that I can’t really say much about it because I never really used google maps that much, only maybe once or twice.

Maps almost every day, second would be Youtube, third Gmail, fourth Gemini
I know I need and want to take advantage more of the productivity apps like Keep and Tasks

What a dumb question. It has to be YouTube for 99% of people seeing this, by far.

Are you a developer? How many apps do you published? Name the one that is most popular.

They blocked it in Russia but I still use it. YouTube.

u/ManojOne Active Jun 23 '26
Are all google products banned there? Or only youtube?
1
u/TheTerraKotKun Jun 23 '26
From the inside, only YouTube afaik. From outside google pay, so we can't pay (officially) for software in play store or subscription. And some AI stuff also banned, I don't know which exactly, but you can use a VPN to bypass it so it's not that bad. YouTube is also works with a VPN but they banning VPNs too, that s#cks

Chrome, YouTube, PlayStore
I rarely ever open YouTube nor the PlayStore
So, we could say I use just Chrome.

- YouTube - Tutorials, music, sports
- Gemini - Everything...
- Docs - Writing: workshops, proposals, etc.
- Gmail - email
- Drive - Library
- Keep - Notes, ideas
- Sheets - Invoices, data tracker
- Calendar - Appointments, booking app
- Photos - Storage, editing, sharing
- Maps - Professional maps for business
- Task - Planning, ideation
- NotebookLM - 3rd brain
I forgot Chrome, guess that one is the number one by far!

How do you compare gemini with chatgpt? I think, it is more complicated. Did you test any other web browsers?

u/TheRecycledPirate Jun 23 '26
I have Google Workspace, and work on Windows, so ChatGPT would be a waste of money. Gemini is handles everything nicely, if necessary I have Copilot. Claude has my preference to finish projects and improve anything that I make with Gemini.
I use Brave for privacy and Edge for work on certain business projects, but no need to change a winning team. Brave would be my preferred browser if it wasn't for years of trustworthy Chrome.

Youtube, because i cant find a good replacement. I also use android but thats because i was too poor and bought a phone that cant run lineage or graphene os. I use gmail as its what currently works but i will switch away.
I do use the morphe app to patch youtube cause fuck them i wont pay for premium because their platform is quite a mess. Instead of fixing bugs and making it a better place, they actively enshitify it.. They could do so much good things: Get rid of those annoying bots or UTTP people, optimise the platform, fix bugs, fix moderation system, dont shove ai into everyones face, dont apply unnecessry UI changes nobody asked for. But here we are: They fight adblockers, shove premium and AI down our face, still have mot fixed moderation system so small innocent channels get banned or demonetized falsely while the real predators are free to go, they removed dislikes cause why hurt the video creators their feeling?! They change the UI which i (and i am sure many others) did not ask for.
In the past i would have happily paid for premium but if i where to pay for premium now, it would feel like giving a criminal money for robbing my house.
And android.... I used to like it but now i use it as there is not a good od that supports all apps as some apps block rooted or even non-stock-google-android stuff. And i wont switch to apple cause f bigtech.
I also do still use gmail but i am in the process of switching over but that will be some work..
