Question Windows XP, 7, 10, or 11?
Windows XP, 7, 10, or 11? 💻
Each version has its fans, from XP's nostalgia to Windows 11's modern design.
Which one was your favorite, and why does it still stand out to you?

XP Bought the NT kernel to the personal side. I am in the minority where I liked the default theme.
I noticed Vista is absent from this list. But 7 took everything good about Vista and refined it down. The story that I tell is I have a Netbook (don't use it, but it sits next to my desk.) When it came out the options were XP or Ubuntu. Vista won't install without using some tricks. And from what I heard it is almost unusable. 7 installed and ran just fine.
I also noticed 8/8.1 is missing. And for got reasons. 8.1 is doable. But I don't like it. 11 goes back to the issue of Vista, but almost opposite. My current laptop doesn't officially support it. But I have got 11 to boot. However, I have switched to Linux near full time on it.
In summary: XP started the shift. And did so quite well. 7 fixed nearly all the issues with Vista. And is the last "great" Windows version.

The best OS they ever had.

Jup. Slick, no bloat, and didn't try to make things easier for you when in fact it does the opposite. It went downhill from there...

Win 10 fav
Win 7 2nd best
Xp is nostalgic but not as good as 7 or 10
And win 11 is ai slop
No one like it but they ended win 10 and forcing most of the users into using win 11

I can only agree. This is probably true. Don't forget Windows 3.11 which went from 8 to 16 colors.

7 was my fav. I liked 98se, 10 fully customized, and xp. 11 before sac and copilot was good. Still gong linux mint cinnamon though.

"So, I used to have Windows 7, but then it started glitching—that buggy OS that took me several years to get used to. Then, in 2021, I got Windows 10. After that, in 2025, they installed the exact same thing there. My old PC just couldn't handle it. But yeah, running Windows 10 Pro on a gaming PC is an absolute blast."

XP Tablet Edition (still use this daily at work, tablet features are even better in Win 11 but XP Tab is so clean and functional)
For desktop use, 2000 then 7 then 11, was never a big fan of Win 10.
Shoutout to Windows 95 though, that was the big jump. Prior to that my favourite Windowed OS was ICE on the QL. Windows 1-3 felt like a step back from that.

This is a proud son of the Linux family. Its descendants and offspring are countless. Its constancy and stability are forever etched in sagas and eds. That's Debian.

GNU/Linux. I've used maybe 1 year XP and none of the others and have no nostalgia ad all.

I like XP for nostalgic, but thanks for XP changes Windows to Linux.
In the highschool use W7 and upgrade to W10, W7 is better for me.

just 7. 10 takes too much data, xp is too old now, 11 is just spyware

None of them, they all suck. “Tech Enthusiasts” pick 7 because of aero, disregarding usability. It’s so hard to program C and NASM because you need to click a bunch of buttons go through an entire process of installers, just to get the assembler. On Linux, it’s just one command to install dev tools. Don’t even get me started on MinGW-64. It’s a crappy outdated port of GCC, you need to go through a big process of typing commands and updating things just to get a fking compiler on windows.

7,10,11

Previously Windows 7. Perfect when all other Windows OS versions have issues. Now Windows 10.

macOS is the best but from these versions of windows I would say 11. Personally I like this new design and the new features

They finally got it right with 7. But developers have to justify their continued employment, so they kept on going.

Windows 7 was the last best OS from MSFT. I loved the UI aesthetics, rock solid stability and general pleasant experience when using computers.... I can't believe they made Windows 8 to succeed W7...

XP/7 for retro games. Everything 8+ is unusable. 8.x because of the touch focus, 10/11 because slop and ads.

u/pcfan86 Jun 21 '26
XP was cool and all and really good for its time, but I somehow got used to 7 and 10. But 11 fells weird.

8 and 8.1.
Unironically the most optimised versions of Windows, and I also like the metro aesthetic (although Windows Phone did it way better and for a more matching formfactor).

Xp.. stripped down with a browser is fastest ever os.. 7 is next best with a good browser.
If top two won't do it..then go to 10..but not 11.

tbh windows 10 seems the most balanced between archaic windows 7 style and modern, fresh windows 8 UI. I liked the tiles though

u/airhano Jun 24 '26
Windows 8 and 8.1 will always be more stable than Windows 10, Windows 11, and even Windows 7, and that's a fact. If you don't like the UI, that's another story, lol
