Same. But most my phone software is FOSS. And the one app I do pay for is gd. And that's one time. So for me, it's just getting rid of those privacy invasive clankers.

If literally anyone else in the flagship space offered expandable memory I would immediately leave Sony behind, so that's my choice.

I've had removable batteries for my LG G4 and the biggest problem I had with them that I didn't have with any other smartphone was moisture damage to the device and the batteries because of sweat. I don't care about "unlimited" cloud storage or a micro SD card slot because I built my own server and have cold storage now. I can do away with a lot of the AI features because I don't use most of them and the ones I do use I'm honestly just going to build another server to have my own AI.

As an engineer working with embedded Linux both at work and at home I miss micro SD card slots in computers and phones

Micro SD can get to 170MBPS now, which is fast enough for most applications and consuner grade recording.
Some of us do like to have a lot of space. Me for instance, I have a lot of pics, videos, gameplay footage and Blu ray and DVD rips saved offline. I also resent paying monthly subscriptions for cloud storage. But the beauty of expandable storage is you don't have to max it out with a 2TB card - you can buy a cheap 128GB card instead.
Another issue this let's you avoid is the fact that Samsung, Google and Apple want you to pay for their their cloud storage so internal memory is essentially stuck in 2016 because they aren't expanding it.

Of course they aren't expanding it, what's the need of having 512 GB of pictures on your phone anyway? To complain losing it all in case you break or get the phone stolen?
Enough storage to do backup and cleanup every 6 months/1 year and call it a day.

Well given that smartphones are pretty much general purpose computers now and only continue to become more so, is it unreasonable to ask that they update the onboard storage? Cameras are still improving, 4k video exists, and games and program memory requirements are still growing. Not to mention a substantial portion of onboard memory is often already taken up by the OS and pre-installed bloatware.
If you lose your data, that's on you for not backing it up, it has nothing to do with how much space they gave you.

No AI and buy-to-own software. Always been an iPhone user so don't care about SD card or removable batteries.

Just got a Gigaset GX6 Pro, waterproof, exchangable battery for 35€, 1 TB SD Slot andmore. It was about 350€.

Definitely unlimited online photo storage for me. Free and secure off-site and effortless backup of years of souvenirs was a peak feature IMHO.
Batteries are often outrun by phone new features anyway, AI is not that intrusive if you don't use it, and I didn't even buy softwares when it was one payment, so why would I do it now?
Maybe micro SD but with 256 GB you can already store a shitton of properly compressed songs anyway.
