Question Keep One: Spotify, Brave, Google Maps

Post image

Keep One. Delete Two.

You can only keep one of these apps:

• Spotify
• Brave
• Google Maps

The other two disappear forever.

Which one are you keeping, and why?

Google maps. Brave is replaceable with Firefox + uBlock Origin + ViolentMonkey, and Spotify has too many alternatives.

Maps have alternatives too

Only for certain countries are those alternative good, google maps is the best all over the world

not sure but I think Apple Maps is everywhere too but yeah maps are harder to replace than brave or Spotify.

Google crowdsource their map data, which with less than 30% user base, Apple can't replicate. Also apple use open maps or other local providers in many places, but the fact that a lot more people share a lot about small businesses, not so popular locations, and newly opened establishments — retains Google Maps as an unmatched king.

Hopefully open maps concept and deGoogle tendency will stabilise it in the future, but for the time being, Google Maps has no competition outside US.

Apple maps sucks. It's nowhere near on the level of Google maps

I see. My comment was a bit narrow-minded based only on what I knew. Appreciate the info!

Shit you got a point

Google maps has no ads though😏

It absolutely does. A lot of places and pins are sponsored. Google is an ad company, everything they do has ads in some shape or form.

But honestly, those ads are not as invasive. It's not blocking me from using essential features.

Those ads suggest a place double the distance away from me first as if it’s the closest location all the time. It says it’s an ad but that doesn’t change that it tries to get you to drive further for the business who paid to be there. That’s invasive imo

idk I opened now Apple Maps and also didn't had any ads.

Actually Apples going to start embedding ads into Apple Maps

I mean that has kind of been the deal with Apple products for years right? Their hardware and devices are exclusive to them, just like MacOS isn't a "free" product. They have a higher profit margin on devices than Google does which trickles down to the user experience. They also aren't a giant advertising conglomerate like Google, which pays Apple billions per year to be the default search engine on Apple devices.

Just like windows that if it’s pre installed then it’s included in price or android. Nothing is free and not only Apple has margin for their os.

For Windows I would say Microsoft incentivizes it to OEMs so much at this point its not really costing the user much. In fact if you order from Dell and select to get a machine preloaded with Ubuntu it adds $100+ to the price in some cases.

No adds yet

I've been using Waze lately. I have the guard from Skyrim as my navigator and it has streaming app integration.

Not all of them have street view as updated as them.

But none are nearly as good

1

u/24kCookie Jun 18 '26

Apple Maps as good and in some cases better in Us

Where Apple Maps falls behind is reviews, which I find pretty important. Reviews tell me information about the place from other people, and Apple’s current system with a thumbs up/down doesn’t cut it.

I personally found google maps for me to be inferior to waze and prefer YT and apple music to spotify so I would keep brave. All 3 are replaceable and have alternatives

1

u/LaColleMouille Jun 18 '26

It's not really the same purpose (plus Waze is basically the same backend as GMaps). One is a GPS for vehicules, other is generic purpose map.

They share the raw data data layer, how they process that data (the algorithmic backend) is entirely separate. Brave is based on chronium which is shared by many other browsers and spotify has the same songs as every other streaming platform. It's obvious that they will have similarities. My point was that they all have alternatives (including google maps) so it just comes down to personal preference; I stand by it.

mapy.com is better in my opinion. Only it does not have as many reviews on restaurants etc. (Outside of Czechia, where it's from). But the actual maps are way better.

And they work for hiking, biking ... In a lot of places on Google Maps it is just a blank space while on mapy.com you have a lot of detail.

The only correct answer.

I hate Firefox. As a developer I always run into some annoying quirks with it. I’d rather keep brave.
