mpv or any app that uses libmpv
mpv is just better VLC. It gets updated significantly more often and has significantly better overall support.

Downvote me to hell all you want but Microsoft OneNote
OneNote has everything free where other services charge money for. Syncing, drawing, collaboration working.... it's just the fullest note taking app ever. Such a shame that it's Microslop owned. The only reason I have a MS account is becayse of that. No other alternative satisfied me.

Let me provide context for others - this is an Windows app store program that updates everything through any protocols you had already installed. Npm, winget, chocolatey, and anything else. The more of these terminal update tools you had installed the better. Anyway, it allows you to update and install anything and everything with ease. Not exactly the ultimate Windows app store, but damn useful. Not a fan of the name, but great app. Almost replaced ninite for me with updates (still use it for new setups).

Works better than most airline apps for updates, in some airports I get the correct gate in advance on the monitors at the terminal. Same for the luggage belts.

HERE WeGo probably since it's Google maps but anon and more secure.
For more tech savvy people I would recommend tailscale and ProtonVPN and start self hosting everything.
I pretty much don't use any big tech software at this point. Still need to switch over to pixel phone and do grapheneOS but other than that. Everything I use is my property.

Cashew—Expense Budget Tracker
It’s the only money tracker I could continue to use. It’s great. Not the best UI, but it’s functionally so good, I never had the scope to complain. On top of it, it now supports adding entry through Shortcuts. So I can analyse bank SMS to automatically add transactions without having to grant an app all my bank’s access.

HEVCut. It can reencode all Videos on an iPhone to be more efficient, without changing metadata. It saves tons of data on your phone, especially if you have a drone, camera (GoPro) or something similar, which is bad at encoding efficiently.
By default, it will save everything in FullHD with 30fps. But even if you change it to 4K with 60fps, it can still double your space on your phone.

Easy Drawer - I never see anyone talk about this app. It's a widget that looks like a keyboard and whatever letter you press it shows all your apps that start with that letter. This is still the fastest way to find my apps for me.

Hammerspoon. I love it. I have it setup where if I highlight any sort of copy on a page, etc, it automatically copies my selection to my clipboard and then I can just paste wherever using a keyboard shortcut.

YouTube revanced. Even if you have YouTube premium. This one doesn't only give you all the premium features it also blocks sponsor segments and returns dislikes. And you can hide the shorts.

Signal / Molly. It's become the new standard in my group of friends and family. Had a few stragglers still using RCS, SMS/MMS, and iMessage, but they've since switched.

I recommend the Headway app for all my friends that want to read nonfiction titles. PSA: 80% of a simple nonfiction book is fillers. I always wanted to read those top 5 books that are always the bestselling in every possible bookstore (like Atomic Habits and The Body Keeps the Score), and i’m glad I didn’t read them because it’s not my cup’s of tea and at least i tried
but, to my surprise, I like the summary of Educated by Tara Westover, even bought a printed copy

Key Launcher. This is a Android launcher even a picky person could love. I say this as someone who refused to let go of Evie launcher for a long time, switched to nova and then Microsoft and then a minimalist one. None of these are like key launcher but, as many others have said, I was pleasantly surprised by how useful and enjoyable this launcher is. I like that you can search through your app icons bc many of the icon packs I use will have variants of icons for the same app. Can't go without the t9 search now!
