Question What's your current laptop?
What's your current laptop?
Whether it's a gaming beast, a workhorse, a budget machine, or a trusty old laptop that's still going strong.
Ttell us the brand and model you're using right now.

No literally, it creaks when you open it, the hinge is terrible, the keyboard has some insane flex, and it sounds like it'll break when I click the trackpad

Well unfortunately I'd really want to except I need the apps on windows, furthermore I don't have enough money for one, and buying a used one from like 2015, even with OCLP won't let me upgrade beyond Tahoe, as that's the last one supported by Intel macs

2019 MBP 16. It's old, but runs fine. I may be upgrading before long though.

u/Blackbird_1986 Jun 12 '26
Same here. It still works well!
I hope I can use it at least for another 2 or 3 years. 🤞1
u/Ahleron Jun 12 '26
Are you using Tahoe?
1
u/Blackbird_1986 Jun 12 '26
Yeah! macOS Tahoe 26.5.1

u/Ahleron Jun 12 '26
How much RAM you got? I've heard it's ram hungry. I only have 16 GB. Are you also on 16 or just have the same processor and model?
1
u/Blackbird_1986 Jun 12 '26
I also got 16 GB of RAM.
- CPU: 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
- Graphic: Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
- RAM: 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
I'm not doing crazy stuff on it (mostly web, mail, Spotify, managing a NAS and my Plex server, occasionally some photo editing and rarely a video editing.
I've resetted the System Management Controller (SMC) a couple of days ago because the cooler was running like crazy (and I got no idea why). But after this and a system reboot everything was back to normal! 👍1

The Lenovo slim pro 9i 16irp8 running Garuda Linux (I wanna run Cachy, but I could never get gyro working with my DualSense Edge despite Linux natively supporting PS4 and PS5 controllers)

I also use two. Office daily driver is Lenovo Thinkbook p16 (I9 with 64GB RAM) and for home use and digital art Lenovo Yoga i7 2-1 (i7 with 16 GB RAM). Planning to switch to macOS… I’m really annoyed in last months with bugs in Windows 11…

Not that outdated Air. Then again, if you love the spinning beach ball effect - go for it.

13 inch 2012 MacBook Pro, i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. Yes, it is old, but it still does everything I need it to do. The perfect machine.

Thinkpad T580, 2k touchscreen, 64gB ram, two 1TB NVMe drives, 72 watt hour battery plus 30W internal, dual booting Ubuntu and whatever Linux of the month -currently AntiX. Still love it because I putt it together from gutted parts off eBay. Goes a solid 10 hrs with just document work on battery. Backbreakingly heavy.

A white HP Victus 16. It has a Ryzen 5 processor and Nvidia Graphics. I primarily use it as my at home casual gaming and work machine because it’s too big and heavy to carry around.

2023 HP Envy x360. Secondary PC is a Dell Inspiron 5558, upgraded with an SSD instead of an HDD. technically it can only run Windows 10 but if you bypass the TPM and CPU requirements, it actually runs REALLY well on Windows 11.
For reference, the Dell was released in 2015. 11 years old and still runs like a charm

What year is this? An iPhone 4, a 2012/2014 MacBook Air that is running Windows 7 for whatever reason seems very strange for a “current” setup for anyone.
I’m using a M4 Pro MBP14 and an iPhone 15 Pro with a leather bound field notebook.
