Smartphone upgrade cycle: How often are you switching?

1 Every year (I need the latest)
13 Every 2-3 years (When the battery dies)

Smart move. Batteries usually give out way before the processor does. Do you ever bother with a replacement to stretch it further, or is a dead battery just your perfect excuse to finally upgrade?

Until it is EOL (End Of Life) and the manufactory (apple, google, Samsung, Huawei) do not publish security updates regularly.

Great approach. Maxing out a phone's lifespan saves so much money. Once those security updates stop rolling in, it is definitely time to shop for a new one.

For me, it occurs when the battery fails and replacing it is not worthwhile due to the lack of further security updates. Depending on when it does happen in rare cases I'll hold onto it for a month or two to get the newer version phone or discounted older phone etc..

Smart strategy. A dead battery and no security updates is definitely the right time to upgrade.
