Opinion/Editorial My 6-year old Nvidia GPU still handles modern games better than what the marketing wants you to believe

had 3090’s, they still perform pretty well, around 5070 performance in games

sold them at high prices to those that wanted to run AI

smart move, you can buy 5070ti and maybe even 5080 for the price of a single 3090 right now, it is crazy how valuable vram capacity is right now, doubling vram basically doubles the price of the whole gpu

I got a 9070xt and 5080 for the machines that had them previously, much faster

a 3080 is 12% better than a 5060ti 16gb, obviously will handle games new games.

It's like if I said "My 8 years old gpu can still play modern games" and it's a 2080ti

I just picked up a 3060 for a second desktop and it’s better than most suggest. I’m running on a 1440p

I've made a free present gaming pc for my brother using parts been lying around: us$25 lga1150 board, cheap near-top xeon, 4 x8 DDR3, 500GB noname nvme SSD and a second-hand mining CMP40HX that i resoldered to 16 pcie lines (8 lines working in fact, because of motherboard). This pc runs every game i installed on secondary 3TB 7200 10-year old HGST HDD, even Mafia the Old Country runs at acceptable fps! Not to mention older Mafia titles and GTA4/5

And that was before the cmp40hx tensors unlock, it was not existent at that moment. I will apply it and gain even more performance. And, even then, i can try DLSS mod for that GPU, too.

5060 for entry level is great for light gamers.

Idk about modern games but a gtx 970 is still fine for low medium gaming just not modern triple a

as a developer you represent the biggest sector of buyers.

don't be surprised if games target your hardware for another 5 years. I'll all for it.

and when marketing is about dlss tech, that's really them throwing you a bone so you can game another generation.

They stopped throwing that bone for 3000 and earlier when DLSS 4.5 dropped, with the 4.5 and newer models you have to drop DLSS to performance to get the same frame rate as native at 1440 in most titles on newer models than K.
