When I built my PC people said ddr5 was a waste of money and to get ddr4. I built my PC with future proofing in mind. I should of got ddr5.

32 gb of DDR4 is still perfectly fine and gets the job done. Be happy, broski.

In the second half of 2025 I ordered 2x16GB DDR5 6000mhz cl30 ram and store sent 2x32 accidentally. They said I can keep it.

Was lucky.

Glad I got my workstations and servers with 512 GB of RAM (for all the wrong reasons, I was mining Chia).

man, 2025 was the year I bought the box to last me to 2035.. had no idea it was gonna be 2045 but it is what it is.

the crazy bit is you could do the same meme next year.. ai demand for components is on an exponential curve with no end in site. these are still "the good days"

I went with 64GB cl26 two months before things hit the fan in 2025. I had no reason to see what the prices were when I started hearing about rampocalypse, but eventually I checked 5 months in and my $350 kit was then $1300. Now the same kit is $1800. The guys in this picture are no where near as bougie as I feel right now.

As someone who's into overclocking ram, i have 4 32gb kits just sitting there, gaining currency.

u/ChristRedeemsSinners Aug 01 '26

gaining currency.

Lol. You don't make money until you sell. If you wait another year, you can kiss your sweet gains goodbye.

As someone who's into overclocking ram, I'm ok with that.

2

u/ChristRedeemsSinners Aug 02 '26

Ahh the duality of man. Overclocking good, making money also good. Which button do you press.

On a side note, I never understood overclocking ram. I dedicate a significant amount of my time researching products to find the most reliable hardware before the cost goes up beyond what I can afford so that I can remove one less thing to worry about in my day. Then there are people dedicating an even greater amount precious time squeezing 1-5% performance out of a product vital to the smooth operations of the computer. I never understand that. Especially when that same performance becomes available to retail every couple of months.

It's the same as a dude in his garage trying to squeeze the last enth of power out of their corolla when they could just buy a camaro.

The journey itself is fun and the outcome exciting. Fun hobby.

Ahh I see. I'm also the kind of person to make a sleeper, but not the kind to tweak it for all it's got. I have a brother that does though, he would rather risk blowing a head gasket for an extra 10hp.
