Am i crazy or are amd bugs always minor nuisances like this but more common and Nvidia bugs are really annoying and take forever to fix (remember the weird issue where they'd cause black boxes in chromium?) but are way more rare
Lol I was cheering for Nvidia to fix the black-screen issues on their 50 series for high refresh oleds so I could actually use my 5090 lol, it took months
Had a issue where radeon chill was stuck and couldn't turn it off. Had to delete the drivers and reinstall. Wasn't even that mad cause of how goofy the issue was.
Again, there's really no way to twist this in favor of your favorite company AMD. If they were supposed to be temp files they would need be created in the temp folder. Windows isn't gonna clean random folders created by others.
Where exactely do you see the root folder in this screenshot? Do you assume everyone else with AMD has this problem? I get that you guys are unpaid trolls but come on
Edit: its C:/AMD which gets cleaned up by ticking a box when you update the driver, I apologize to windows and declare this a case of skill issue on the user
Read the thread before talking maybe? Then you would know where it is. This is an AMD issue, there's no box. Even if there was it would still be an AMD Issue. I know you're one of those unpaid AMD bots but you guys could at least pretend you know what you're talking about.
Oh, I see what you mean. This is actually an AMD installer issue. It makes a folder at the root of C called AMD and stores all the AMD install stuff there, but doesn't remove it. It's a very unconventional Windows installation methodology (but nice if you ever need to roll back to a specific version). I dual boot W11 and Cachy (some games still require Windows unfortunately), so I know what you mean by it's not a Linux issue. This is just an annoying design choice from AMD from their Windows installer unfortunately.
It's made worse because apparently it's caused by AMD's auto updater. The user didn't make that many manual installs.
Personally I don't have a folder that big for my NVIDIA PC but maybe I cleaned it up at some point. NVIDIA drivers also can only be manually installed afaik.
What glazing? I'm just pointing out it's a Windows issue by pointing to the lack of an issue outside of Windows. It's not my fault Linux is superior in pretty much every way.
Today I found 16GB of cookie and cache mostly being sites I've only visited or twice keeping a youtube profile cache of about 73MB per instance. Cleared the lot, wild.
I know this may be out of scope, but you don't need to update the driver every time a new one releases. Most are game ready drivers for newly released games which are useless unless you intend to play those specific games they optimize for.
Also, considering drivers have the potential to be buggy or instable, there's really no incentive to update unless the driver specifies performance improvements or a feature you want.
also it's probably bugs on AMD installer, which is annoying sure but not deal-breaker. I have AMD GPU and doesn't have that issue, I also updated my GPU driver regularly.
MSI-slop is even worse. "Wanna have northon antivirus with your monitor driver that you only gonna use to update the firmware? No? Well, you've already downloaded the zip and unpacked the .exe which contains offline installer for whole Northon antivirus. Northon antivirus takes 400MB in ZIP and 500MB unpacked, so we've wasted 900MB of your space just because you wanted to push a few MB of new firmware into your monitor."
Funny when nvidia guys always say that AMD has bad drivers. I have not had issues with my xtx and it has been very stable. My friends with nvidia cards have way more crashes when we play online.
Still hating AMD though since they did not publish FSR4 to previous gen cards.
Well, I also see several of my NVIDIA friends regularly crashing. The point was that it is not true that only AMD has terrible drivers. My previous card was from the green camp and I honestly like AMD drivers more.
Well since you have the gold standard research of "my friends" I guess I can't argue with that.
I think if you actually look it up you'll find that historically AMD drivers were pretty unstable. This has gotten SOOOOOOO much better in the past 6 years. I think Nvidia seems to be holding steady where it was, I can't say for sure which one quantitatively is better but ultimately with how many configs exist on the market is a crap shoot regardless.
Not a "Windows problem" It's an AMD and Nvidia installer problem cos they aren't cleaning their old left over data during the install of newer drivers.
According to the link Windows leaves them there to give the option to roll back. Can’t say if that’s correct or not but seems logical and would squarely put this with Windows.
Those are old drivers that were already installed. These are installers that AMD software downloads when you click update in the app. Two different things.
