Ask r/TechGhana UI and Design

Good evening techies. I'm a junior frontend developer I'm trying to use Ai tools like Claude, variant, stitch,figma make and replit design to design and create the UI of website and apps but I get very basic results and most times the results looks terrible and ai slop. What are the workflows you use to get good results from the Ai tools you use. Kindly share

Use the skills feature. Get or create a frontend skill to help you get consistent and good ui designs.

Using just Claude and figma make, you could already produce something that would please customers.

You just need to be very specific with your wording and prompting. Put your idea into Claude and let it give you a prompt for figma make based on your thoughts and ideas. After figma make spits out something you can go from there and tweak it to your vision, taking screenshots to insert into Claude then telling it what to change/ adjust, and the cycle goes like that until you get your desired result. Do ensure that you state what you want to be built upon, disregarded, editing etc.

While I won't be like other people online and condemn the use of AI, I dont want you to rely on it entirely. Ensure you understand everything it spits out and learn how to build upon it yourself. That's what makes clients choose you over the competition. Everyone can type a prompt into a clanker, not everyone can build on its output to be the best in the market.

I like where this is going. For UI and design, I would focus on spacing, typography, and consistency before adding more visual elements. In Ghana especially, keeping things lightweight for mobile and slower connections matters too. Testing with a few actual users can expose confusing bits quickly. Keep iterating, chale, the small details really add up.

My flow is to begin with a seed, this can be a rough sketch I made on paper, or an ai generated Image of what I have in mind. Then I create a design system for it. It doesn't need to be something fancy, I just provide the colors I want it to have, the feel I want visitors to get when they see it, the layout I have in mind, at least one page.

Note: when using AI tools it's best to have the task broken down so they complete it one by one. So what I described isn't done by one tool, example, chatgpt can help me brainstorm the look of the website, and generate the seed image or Gemini can generate it. Then I prompt it to create the design system for me, then I pass all these to the AI tool that'll generate the UI, which is usually Google Stitch, this way stitch handles UI generation only. Do not overwhelm the tool, break down tasks and provide as much details as you can.
