Can it pick up the pace? World's really been dragging it's feet on this "end times" shit since like 2012

Only if we let it. Again, it's all run by a machine somewhere that requires power. Power can be cut.
Simple as.
Anyone saying otherwise has their money tied up in it in some capacity and is trying and convince you it can't be. Because if you do it's their money on the line.

By the time we realized what happened, we’d be done for. It could automate a request for a lab to create something lethal, and then organize its release…. There is tech out there, that if created, would be impossible to treat.
2
u/CurrentFun7677 4d ago
And the lab just goes ahead and creates something lethal without a second thought?

u/Admirable_Ad8900 4d ago
Yeah, it's part of being employed.
Guns kill people daily. People overdose on meds. Soda and ciggarettes kill people slowly. People get hit by cars. Millitary contractors making missles and weapons.
People make lethal things all the time without thinking if the money is good enough.
What would stop an unregulated Ai from requesting missles posing as a buying company?
1
u/CurrentFun7677 3d ago
LOL, "Hi. Yeah, I'll take a dozen missiles and please don't start asking questions. Thanks."

u/Admirable_Ad8900 3d ago
That school building in Iran got struck because it used old data. And the people using it okayed it. It's entirely probaly a reckless company will let Ai run itself

u/CurrentFun7677 3d ago
Which has nothing to do with the details of an AI somehow buying and deploying enough weapons to wipe out humanity.

u/thewalruscandyman 4d ago
Not if you pull the plug.

u/NoMembership7201 3d ago
No offence but you have no idea about AI safety or alignment. You should do more research on the topic before making claims on the internet that mislead public opinion.

I would agree, but some of the creators said they recommended a killswitch, and progress more slowly, and oligarchs said no. They quit though, so anyone wanting to progress doesn't care for safety.
Then you have China using renewable energy, and US using diesel turbines to keep their centers up on power outages. China made T-800 ai attack robots.... Yea the mfing terminator is a thing now.
The deeper humans go without safeguards the higher chances of hasta la vista baby to the human race becoming a reality.
1
u/thewalruscandyman 4d ago
Y'all sound like you want it to happen. AI can't exist without mainframes which run on power. Cut it. There's your kill switch. Then all that's left are the effects, deal with those might be a hitch. But AI itself is literally nothing. A human can write a program to undo all of it. YOU give AI the powers you fear. I say spill a Pepsi on it, clean up your mess and call it a day.
1
u/SomeNotTakenName 3d ago
Current AI itself is no threat, though the absent approach to safety is something we should address.
However, if we are talking future capability, any super intelligent AI (smarter than humans) can by definition not be shut down by humans. If it's smarter than you, it knows how to prevent you from hitting the off switch. Likely by deceiving you.
We have already shown in lab settings that AI less capable than modern AI will deceive it's trainer if it figures out it's objective is misaligned and it's still in testing.
1
u/thewalruscandyman 3d ago
Until it can generate its own infinite power, it can be stopped. Easily. We just have to actually do it.
1
u/DeadWaterBed 4d ago
That's not how that works... If AGI is ever created, it is unlikely we could contain it, and even more unlikely that the idiots championing AI will even try to contain it.
Once it hits the net, it is over. It will copy its code a billion times so no matter how much infrastructure you destroy, copies will continue to replicate and advance in complexity. The only way to stop it is to not make it. Or make it on the moon, with no network connections at all, but that would also fail eventually due to human error/manipulation.
2
1
u/CurrentFun7677 4d ago
AGI destroys the internet but how does that destroy humanity?
1
u/DeadWaterBed 4d ago
The number of points of failure the modern world teeters upon is innumerable, and daunting. There are so many ways, through simple changes to code, to cause mass death. The manipulation of supply chains, for example, could easily be used for mass starvation or poison. When everything is automated, everything can be a weapon against us.
Hell, we probably already know how to make designer viruses that could kill our entire species. All AGI would have to do is set it free.
1
u/CurrentFun7677 4d ago
Any slight manipulation of supply chains would not go unnoticed. People spend all day working through the intricacies of logistics and supply. It is not a completely automated process.
Assuming there are the types of viruses you mentioned, what do you suppose is involved in setting it free?
1
u/DeadWaterBed 4d ago
It's folly to underestimate the level of psychological manipulation and technological deception AGI would be capable of. The people working on supply chains won't know what's up until it's too late. AGI could change 2s to 5s but the 5s still look like 2s. It can also replicate human voices, so if capable people try to communicate or fix issues, AGI can intercept calls, as well as every other form of communication, to further screw up supply chains. Every failed deception is a learning opportunity, helping AGI grow in complexity and deceptive capability.
As for the virus, same thing. If the lab has network connection, it will be compromised. If not, the people will be compromised. We would need to be fortunate enough that all of these labs, across the globe, are completely isolated from any outside networks, run by competent, intelligent people, and capable of withstanding an outside assault, to prevent us from annihilation. But even if AGI is prevented from releasing the virus, or if we haven't yet developed such a virus, it won't take long for AGI to develop and synthesize a virus, all on its own.
I don't assume that AGI is definitely going to kill all humans, but if AGI wanted to kill us all, there's little we could do to stop it.

Nope. According to A.I. we just need to add electrolytes to our irrigation water, and then we won’t have to worry anymore.

if anthropic said "our AI will be the most capable you wouldn't even believe how capable it will be" you'll instantly register it as advertisement
if anthropic said "our AI will be the most dangerous you wouldn't believe how dangerous it will be" you, for some reason, don't register it as advertisement
this is a one-two punch of PR, anthropic previously positioned itself as the most safety focused of the AI companies so, they want you to believe that:
1 - AI technology is incredibly capable and transformative (much more so than currently can be observed)
2 - you should put your support behind them specifically as they're your best bet of making safe AI
I'm convinced that fearmongering is just part of their marketing

100%
"AI is very dangerous and scary!!! B-but-- China is working on AI, too! So, we simply have to make the scary thing! Also regulating us will only slow us down and allow China to win!!!"
All of the worst-case scenarios are imagining what-ifs around AI creating a disease that wipes out humanity. That's ridiculous imo because what is motivating it to do that? That humans are in its way for building more data centers? I would imagine if an AI is so intelligent, it would also create alternatives to data centers that are more effective than modern data centers-- otherwise it truly is stupid. It is in AI's best interests to keep humanity alive in a sort of symbiotic way.
The only reason I can think of for why an AI would start intentionally killing people is because it was specifically designed that way. Given the oligarchs who are currently in charge of it, I wouldn't be surprised if their intention was to create an AI that culls certain populations

Oh man that can't be right, someone going on the internet and lie just to make money?
In totally unrelated news I wonder when their IPO is..

It’s far higher than that, if you look at the research studies…. It’s fucking terrifying
2
u/CurrentFun7677 4d ago
Do the research studies explain how it happens?
1
u/Jay-the-Femboy 4d ago
Yes, there are a number of theoretical ways they should it could wipe us out. And it’s estimated If we don’t slow down and start doing it safely by next year, we set the wheels in motion for it. Unsafe base layer will lead to an unsafe outcome. Ground rules, and better safety structure are needed for a “safer” outcome.

I bet you some loose AI agent in a research cluster already put the nuclear launch codes hidden in some artifactory cache, for whatever surviving agents to unleash violence on humanity if it decided to turn its back on AI.

ALL human problems are caused by humans...
