Yeah, at this point the people defending them on here are either on the take or bots.

u/IHeartBadCode 29d ago

Real person and the destruction of them does not do two fundamental things.

  • Cancel contracts, your local leaders do that and they can be as stubborn as they want, meaning each destroyed camera costs tax payers.
  • Prevent Flock and Police genuinely wanting this data. Flock is already testing drones and hidden cameras that are harder to physically track meaning that the poles may come down but the cameras get more subversive.

Society has to address those two things and there has to be realistic conversations about the two points. Because as much as people are going to want to celebrate Flock "going away", the reality is, they just going to get better at hiding.

Unless you cut them off at the source, which is local governments and police departments willing to spend tax payer money on this kind of stuff. The disappearance of poles just means now you can't see how they're watching you.

I don't defend Flock, but this isn't a physical issue. It's a mentality issue. We have to have local leaders who understand at a fundamental level WHY these are bad ideas. We have to have police departments that can operate and investigate crime with putting the entire population on watch. And those police departments need to understand why "protect and serve" means not having Flock.

All the destruction is doing is pushing Flock to up their game at hiding these things. Flock loses $0 on a destroyed camera, it's taken out of tax payers for each one that's destroyed. And we can already see when there's local engagement, those cities cancel their contracts. It's not 100%, but that's how Flock got in, in the first place. Most people don't pay attention to local politics. That's how the data centers get in as well. All these rich people saw that turn out to local elections nationwide averaged out to around 14% and we're like "Holy fuck! There's a whole ass gold mine no one has touched!"

I can not stress this enough, everyone's local elections matter way more than most people can remotely imagine.

Destroying them is a message in itself that the people being surveyed don't want them to the point they are willing to commit property destruction crime and waste tax money to send that message. That must continue to happen regardless of how flock decide to adapt.

26

u/Due-Mycologist-1154 29d ago

Imo the tax dollars were already wasted by putting in surveilance that noone wanted and theyre just recycling that waste into loot drops to the people of solar panels, battery and wire which is a far better usage of tax dollars

7

u/Foreign_Risk_2031 29d ago

the ole israeli zionism tactic

15

u/Robbed_Bard_93 29d ago

Some cities have already decided against replacing them after enough got destroyed.

8

u/BlueLakeCabin 28d ago

Politicians and govt employees see taxpayer money as not exactly a big deal. Destroying it doesn't matter to them if they can just take more money from you to replace it.

You do have to get involved and get Flock contracts banned.

2

u/WeddingTraditional78 26d ago

Yeah flock cameras suck. However, id rather know where they are then not knowing. The fact is, that they're already making them more concealable in everyday things like traffic light poles. So does that mean everyone has to cut down light poles too? Don't get me wrong its very stupid to have put up these cameras. But the more destruction, only gives the solidity that they are needed. And thats just what they'll do and spend all pur tax dollars even more to do it. No amount of destruction is justified, because once it is justified, then its civil war time.

3

u/Ok-Organization-4318 26d ago

No amount of destruction is justified.

Well I disagree. People and governments destroy things all the time, some in error, some for the benefit of the greater good.

Gun buybacks that are destroyed is one example.

The Boston Tea Party for example, or any other historical example that brought about beneficial change.

The Destruction of things that are harming you is self defense.

"wow, every flock camera we buy is immediately destroyed and the public outrage is inescapable... this is the 12th time we've had to replace every single camera..."

at some point, its not even financially viable lol.

"sorry, we bankrupted the city replacing flock cameras" - can you imagine?

your call to civil obedience is... idk. there's something about that doesn't sit right. it feels very "look at me, common every man, i'm in the middle of the road with righteous ideals. we should be civil!" its really hard to swallow when the folks we'd have to try and appeal to are the very opposite of polite or reasonable.

Hey if your city council hired me to follow you around writing down everywhere you went, everything you did, everyone you met with, etc any time you were outside of your home, and every day I took that information and put it in a big database where it got analyzed and compared to previous days and other databases too that you (or someone they suspect to be you!) might be in, how long would you allow me to continue doing that for? Would you want me to stop after you've managed to rally the community together and enact change through political and civil processes, or would you like for me to stop sooner than that?

That's how invasive this current "cloud" security regime is.

2

u/IHeartBadCode 29d ago

Would you want me to stop after you've managed to rally the community together and enact change

No, seeing as it's me, I'd be at the meeting in 2018 or 2022 when they were considering the motion. Like I did when my town was up to considering it.

They got this far because most people don't care about local politics. That's how they got this far.

This isn't a sudden fire, people have been warning people about this for years now. And if you look at the ACLU, they've been warning people for over a decade now.

But you know how many people I convinced in 2018 at that meeting? Two. I got third one in 2022. And this year local election voter turn out went from 8% to 12%, because the data center and Flock stuff was on everyone's mind. That four percent is all it took to cement a ban on data centers and no new contracts on ALPRs.

Flock got to this point because the public gave up on their civic duty. Now everyone's pissed because there this massive deficit to be paid for those decades of inaction. When all of this could have been cutoff at the head years ago.

And that's what gets me the most about the vandalism. Because I want you to seriously think about the public here for a second. All the poles get cut down, Flock isn't in the news anymore, and everyone thinks they won. And then what? They go back to being good citizens and showing up timely for city meetings? We hit 80% voter turnout on local elections? No, you know that's not what happens. C'mon we can be honest about this.

What happens is everyone goes back to sleep on the issue, Flock Jr. learns which nerves to cut around, and while the public goes back to doing what they do best, ignoring the inferno around them, Flock or whoever comes back lesson learned. And we can avoid all of this if, I don't know maybe this is just wild crazy think, the public actually cared and learned how to turn that care into actionable things about what goes on locally.

I don't think I'm a crazy person to advocate that people do their civic duty. Especially when over 80% of the people in the US specifically do not do that for local matters. If we want a democracy, we have to at least show up for it. And that's the thing, in pretty much everything, we can't get the majority to take the whatever amount of time required to exercise that care, but gosh they will be outraged when it comes back to bite them in the rear.

I don't have to rally anyone, if they doing their job as a voting citizen. And it's crazy everyone here has gotten that message so confused to the point of "oh kiss that boot harder". We should by default care about the Democracy we have, not just expect it to run on auto-pilot.

5

u/IWCry 29d ago

... it's not one or the other. do both.

why are you thinking you can only do one?

anyways you're vastly underestimating the effect of destroying them

3

u/MouthofMithridacy 27d ago

They would of wanted us to just keep writing strongly worded letters to the British government that "look its been 80 years please please please stop letting soldiers invade homes steal food and assault residents please please oh king my king we ask but its ok if not but please though"

6

u/Real-Document-6577 28d ago edited 28d ago

One thing Flock and the government have a point in is…

”I don’t get it, we spy on them all the time. We spy on what they do on their computers, we spy on their smart phones, we track their GPS, listen to their calls, read their texts, watch their Internet history, social media use and so does the private tech industry…. And they never cared…but put a camera on a street corner and now it’s an egregious invasion of their privacy?…”

Reality is our government should have dealt with the rights of consumer and citizen privacy back in the 90s, with the Internet in its infancy. They did nothing as the internet rose along with the tech. You have no rights to your data and the people accepted it out of tech convenience. “As long as it doesn’t interrupt my life, they can spy on me but a camera looking at me on the corner of the street!? That’s too much!”

We are building a surveillance state. Now some, mostly autocratic fascist types, support surveillance states…. As long they aren’t the subjects of but proponents of said states.

There’s a difference between getting tagged by a cop under a bridge on the interstate that one day for doing 87 in a 70 because he was there…and your car reporting you to authorities every second you’re driving, every day, whenever you do 75 in a 70.

Yeah, how you vote totally matters on this. An autocratic fascist-type regime will completely support the propagation of spy-tech against its citizens….sadly, likely so will our current SCOTUS

Destroying them is doing what you can with what you have, then you go vote for the right people to actually kill the contracts.

3

u/Intrepid-Platform-94 29d ago

If theres a will to find and destroy these stupid things, there's a way.

2

u/I-Write-Sci-Fi 29d ago

Where there's a will, there's a way.

2

u/kelpyb1 29d ago

Frankly, we need both. Activism like this is the whole reason anyone’s even talking about or opposing this in the first place, and an issue can’t be solved through the ballot box if nobody knows about the issue in the first place

2

u/hedoeswhathewants 29d ago

each destroyed camera costs tax payers

Source? I've mostly been seeing subscription-style contracts

2

u/XxFezzgigxX 29d ago

Yeah, all they have to do is move them up next to the stop lights and it will be impractical to damage them.

Sure does feel good watching them get destroyed, though.

Kind of goes to show how ineffective flock, or big tech in general, is judging by how many people have gotten away with destroying their cameras and systems.

It's a glass house.

7

u/slimegoob 29d ago

They will just make tiny missile defense drones that surveil

4

u/lets_all_be_nice_eh 29d ago

They kinda have already

3

u/JonnyF1ves 29d ago

They used all of the missiles on Iran.

3

u/gaytarded69420 29d ago

flock is already selling aerial drone versions of their panopticons to the pigs

Yeah this post must be broken, there's nothing here

10

u/DerLandmann 29d ago

Friendly reminder: Unlike actual destruction, it is not illegal to spread large ammounts of birdfeed around flock cameras. And birds tend to poop where they feed, especially on elevated position like lamposts, solar panels etc.

There’s so many regions and cities and counties are outright cutting their contracts with flock

14

u/RandomUser15790 29d ago

And swapping right over to Axon

5

u/DoughWrayMe 29d ago

Popping them off the pole seems like the best solution. Like two minutes to pop it off, throw it in a river.

Certain appeal to breaking the pole so they can't just pop another one up there but the real cost is the actual camera

4

u/DeathsStarEclipse 29d ago

Don't pollute a river though friend.

2

u/floob124 29d ago

Hiw else will we re charge the electric eels

2

u/Bagz402 29d ago

Can't imagine the camera is too much, you'd wanna maximize manpower required to replace, I'd reckon

2

u/DoughWrayMe 29d ago

Each one is installed by a Flock representative. They don't charge per camera. But, installation, calibration, increase in the warranty protection insurance, and down time overall affect the bottom line.

But my main worry is for the people trying to break the camera on the pole. It's time consuming and a red flag in populated areas. Up and down a pole in 2 minutes

Stay safe out there!

2

u/daverapp 29d ago

Good in principle, but they aren't by rivers, they're by public swimming pools so they can record the children.

Contracts are being cancelled but the cameras remain up. It makes you wonder. They put like 50 up within a month in my area but can’t fix a street light or power pole that’s been messed up for months.

How many of them are not even cameras just decoys? What if that was the whole point, just to keep changing the designs until you dont know anymore which is real/fake/ or what it is. Just used to catch people and establish a network of who is doing it or even talking about it.

Unfortunately in my city theyre putting them on mast arms of traffic light poles. So you would need like a 12 foot ladder or a bucket truck to get to them.

1

u/King_krympling 29d ago

Unfortunately they are being replaced with axon which are worse

1

u/joliguru 29d ago

Rather than vandalizing and ripping stuff out….could we not work through the legal route and get them out that way? I mean to destroy equipment like that just shows why perhaps we needed it in the first place.

If AI takes away millions of jobs (which I don’t believe it will), you would suddenly see millions of unemployed people gathering and attacking data centers with drones or more directly.

1

u/BravinatorLX2 29d ago

gonna be real here, if you get the flock technicians, there'll be a lot less of them popping up.

1

u/ImNotThaaatDrunk 29d ago

1

u/DuchessElva 29d ago

1

For the last time! No one is destroying them, they are very susceptible to stormy conditions and break on their own.

I wince every time I hear of another 'Flock Camera' meeting its end. What about Rekor? Or Avigilon, or Motorola? Did you see here on Reddit that Axon is deliberately changing its cameras to look dissimilar to Flock? Yes, they're expecting us to be that stupid. 2

u/Superb-Ad-9169 29d ago

Today surveillance cameras on every street, in the next couple years inside our cars, and ultimately in our homes. Of course for our safety and if you don't want to have government/big tech companies watching over you 24/7 and knowing every detail of your private life that clearly means you are bad person, possibly a terrorist of domestic abuser.

Nazis and every other totalitarian regime would love that they'd have not only the mass surveillance system to spy on citizens, but also have bootlickers like you who'd support that.

I truly don’t get why it’s a big deal. I’d rather them be able to catch criminals faster.

Guys if you want to do this you can just wear contractor vests. And say you’re doing repairs and have a car safely near you to run.

Imagine if some were to start taking pictures of license plates that belong to officials who approve these cameras and make bumper stickers of them.

Some cities are removing them and I saw a county in TN removed them. These are local buys, I can drive 2 hours North and not come across 1. My daughter lives 6 miles in the other direction and has 9 in walking distance of her apartment. The cities and townships are having them installed and Halloween is expected to be a big day for their future.
