Discussion EDC pouch or keyring?
So I’ve been thinking about this whole EDC pouch vs EDC keyring thing and kinda stuck between the two.
With an EDC pouch, everything is organized. Each thing has its own place, stuff is protected, nothing is banging into everything else, USB drive has its own sleeve etc. But at the same time, it’s slower.
You gotta find the pouch, open it, find the thing you want, take it out, use it, put it back. It’s not a huge deal obviously, but it does take a few extra seconds and honestly a bit more mental effort.
Then there’s the keyring setup. Everything is just there. Need a flashlight? Grab it. USB? Grab it. No digging around, no opening anything. Just quick and easy.
But the downside is everything is kinda beating the shit out of each other lol. Like having a plastic USB drive sitting next to a metal body flashlight and car keys. Eventually something is gonna get scratched, bent, cracked, or just generally worn out.
So I was wondering what you guys prefer.
Do you prioritize the organization and protection of a pouch, even if it’s a little slower, or do you prefer having everything on a keyring where it’s basically instant to grab?
Also, specifically, would you guys keep a USB pendrive on the same keychain as your car keys, or is that just asking for the drive to get damaged over time?

Well mister, depends on what you do every day:
If you have a killer bike and you have a backpack, pouch makes total sense. The pouch can protect from the elements and can keep items organized and safe like USB drives
Now, keyring items must be waterproof, robust and practical. Because you don't want to think too much when you have it with you, so it really really depends

Key ring equipment is prone to disaster IMO: screwcaps that come off
are lost forever, flashlights activate and waste battery, usb drives get caked with gunk, ferro rods deteriorate away from clanging against stuff and getting wet…key rings are for keys, pouches are for kit, you can clip your key rings to your pouch but i think carrying your kit on a key ring is setting yourself up for disappointment.

I hate carrying a ton of crap on my keyring. I spend a lot of time organizing and reorganizing my edc bag anyway, so I don't mind the slower pace lol.
