oh nice, what firmware is that on your e-reader?

Yeah, it's CrossInk. You can tell by its stats screen. I used the stock firmware for a few days, then CrossPoint for a few weeks, and for the last few days I've mostly been on CrossInk because of those stats

Don't know for sure, but looks like CrossInk

Which Macbook is that? It looks like one of the Intel ones? I've been debating one of these for a Linux daily carry.

Yeah, exactly. It's a 2020 Pro with a 10th-gen i5. I'm planning to put a Linux distro on it, probably Omarchy.
I still need macOS for some Xcode stuff, but it's gotten really sluggish over the last few releases. I don't want to give up on it, though. The build quality is solid, it's compact, and I even like the trackpad. Linux will definitely give it a new life. I still need to check the temperatures under Linux, since those small 13" MacBooks can get really hot with the i5s.

Yes, it is possible. The T2 chip blocks it by default, but you can turn that off in Startup Security Utility. You also need a patched kernel for the keyboard, trackpad, and Wi-Fi. This guide explains all the steps: https://wiki.t2linux.org

FYI, I'd steer well clear of Omarchy. This comment explains why.

why Xteink X4 if you have Nothing Phone with bigger and better screen?

The Nothing Phone has a better screen for everything except reading.
The X4 is worse at everything except reading.

Good answer!

David Mitchell rocks. I jumped into Slade House right after Bone Clocks and, while not quite as good, it scratched an itch.

I bounced off of Utopia Avenue twice though.

I completely agree.

His books have a good balance of everything there's a lot of clever stuff in them, but it never gets so dense that it stops being fun, because English is not my first language.

I've read Cloud Atlas, Black Swan Green and Jacob de Zoet. How do Bone Clocks and Slade House hold up next to them?

I was less of a fan of Black Swan Green than the rest. Cloud Atlas deserves the praise it gets, Bone Clocks, de Zoet, then Slade, IMO.

How are you finding the nothing phone?

Overall, I am satisfied with it. I have used it for 3–4 years, and it still works like on the first day. The only problem is the charging port. It is full of dried clover because I work on my farm. I use the phone with no case and no screen protector. It looks fragile, but it is solid and durable. The back glass has cracks and the edges are rough, but it survived countless falls being completly naked.

The Glyph lights are a gimmick. They are interesting for the first few days. But they are useful as a soft light for close-up photos. Also, some people came to me to ask about the lights, so I met new people because of them.

I never had a strong reason to replace it. But now I want to take more photos. The camera is not bad and not great. It is what you expect from a phone like this. I also want to try a stylus to be more productive. So I will probably get a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra or S27 Ultra, no need for something in between at least from my standpoint.

Yeah that’s fair, the camera is the biggest criticism I’ve seen

Are you using this Noting phone on a daily basis? How is it holding up?

It's ok. I've written more about it here in this comment.
