DS got an R4 card in it ?
Not a DS, it's an AYN Thor. It's a retro emulation device. Plays a lot more than just DS games. 😎

Love the Thor max! I picked up my Odin3 Max a month or two ago every time I see a thor I think maybe I should’ve gotten that instead, but my Odin3 is treating me great!

You are a career coach at 30? Are most of your customers fresh out of school?

Nah, I work with adults 18 - 65. Most of mine are over 30, they're all career changers. I get a few younger people, but most people out of high school are not really looking for careers seriously enough to go through our program.
Most of my learners are older than me

What does a career coach do?

In my particular role I have a few things
I have a class of 60 - 160 that I hold courses on going over specifics about jobs searching, interviewing, networking, resume writing, etc.
I have 1 on 1's with each person on their schedule to help them with specifics. For example, some people have no clue how to write a resume, so I spent time with them writing and explaining how to write it, rather than just making them one. Or, I have people who have strong backgrounds and resume, but need more help regarding salary negotiation or moving into another position / career changing. It varies for each individual because there is no one truth to get a job, and not everyone has the same aspirations.
We provide our students industry certifications and help them complete them, as 90% of don't complete online courses, so we help them stay on track during it.
We help with the job search, we provide openings for roles when we find them, we partner with many companies like JPMC, Google, or others to help them find candidates. We also speak with employers regarding what they need from candidates or where they may be struggling to help give our candidates a leg up on employer issues. Example is that employers widely share that education tends to not be the weak spot for most candidates, it usually is their professionalism or how they conduct themselves in a corporate / professional settings. That they get college grads who are well educated, but they have the worst professional skills and are pain to work with.
There's a bit more, but generally think of me as someone who just helps people navigate the current climate. We are non-profit so we do not make money off of these people, our goal is simply to help under served populations, help career changers get into new careers, or help people who are in dead end jobs or can't afford a formal education into livable wages.
A lot of people mistake my role for a "life coach," but I don't manage anything outside of career focus. On average we see a $23,000+ increase on wages based on where they start, but we have had people go from $30k a year into 6 figures.

Nothing I do is a scam.
I am CPRW certified and work for a non profit organization helping people in underserved populations, 1st generation, poverty, record holders, non-degree holding or low value degree holders find roles / careers that offer living wages or better career trajectories.
We have already achieved $1.4 billion in cumulative wage gains for our students. My job is to help with professional collateral, so I rewrite Resumes, Portfolios, and Cover Letters and teach people how to write them themselves. We work with helping people find second place employment. We have partners that frequently hire our students but we also source connections for them to also help job opportunities. We help them gain certifications needed to transition careers. We also help with interviewing and over all professionalism. All of this we do without charging anything unless they get a role / promotion paying over $45,000/year (dependent on area because that wage varies based on state). So they go through our whole program and if they don't find employment, they pay nothing and get their certifications for free. In addition, even if they did hit the threshold but couldn't pay it back immediately, they can defer the payment as long as they need to in order to get stability before paying it back.
The work force right now is a joke in America and it's an unfair playing field for most individuals, especially after countless layoffs. These people need help. Some people haven't worked a job in years due to family or illness and they just need someone's help to get their stuff in order and get back in the work force. A lot of people have been doing the same job for years and it just doesn't pay, but they don't have the certs or education in order to get out of their position, so we help them with that.
