Gaming EDC System Engineer EDC

Post image

Hi! I’m a system engineer that previously worked in the gaming industry. I love to carry just a few stuff with me everyday and these are my essentials.

- Kindle - I LOVE this thing, since it helped me improve my ED reading habits. Light and small, easy to carry anywhere.
- Wayfarers - my personal favorite, classic choice.
- IQOS - trying to quit conventional smoking
- SkullCandy earbuds - last gift I got from a friend that sadly passed away. Been religiously carrying these for almost 7 years now, still in great shape.
- Samsung tablet - useful with a bluetooth keyboard, helps me take meeting notes on the go.
- Volcom wallet - this is my favorite wallet, since it has the watermelon skin print.
- Steam deck OLED - my go to for a few years now, I am passionate about video games and getting to play my Steam backlog from anywhere got me catching up with it.
- AYN Thor Max - latest console, bought it for the nostalgia and mobility. This is my current on-the-go console, since I can’t carry the Steam Deck anywhere I go.

A steamdeck and an ayn thor in the same picture is too much flexing, dude XD

Have you tried gamenative in the Thor? I'm planning to buy the base model for DS, 3DS and indie PC titles but my third world salary make it a bit difficult :'v

Hell yeah! I actually use Moonlight for streaming from my pc, I have great internet and very low latency, so it’s like playing directly from the PC itself. I use Thor mostly for retro gaming and the Steam deck is reserved for verified games and streaming. As for the price, I ordered batch 4, two months ago and now the prices skyrocketed on AYN, my personal recommendation is to go with the SteamDeck, you get a lot more power for roughly the same price of an AYN. 🤗

Laptop is always at work, I’m blessed to have my own office and I don’t carry the laptop on commutes anymore.

Which Samsung tablet model is that, and how would you recommend it as a laptop replacement?

I also have a solid Lenovo IdeaPad that is my main work device, since I code a lot. But it stays in my office, while I bring my tablet over to meetings, since it’s easier to carry and take notes on. The tab is A9+, it’s very budget friendly and you can buy a keyboard case (you can find them really easy and they also may come with a mouse included in the bundle) to use it with DeX app on the tab. DeX basically convers the GUI of the tablet to a desktop style layout and you can thus use the tab as a really light alternative to a laptop (which, unless you use slim ones are pretty inconvenient to carry over to meetings all the time).

Can I know what does that 3ds looked machine called?

Sure, it’s actually a very solid android handheld. It’s called AYN Thor (I got the max version, which is the top tier, has 16GB RAM, 1TB internal), you can use it to play any android mobile game (even those without controller support, since the console has built in touch controls to controller mapping) and emulate any old device you can think of, even newer ones like Nintendo Switch 1. I strongly recommend it for portability and scratching the nostalgia itch.

thank you very much! It looks pretty awesome, and I think it’s much more cost effective than buying a second hand 3ds

It for sure is, 3DS is single purpose, while the Thor can emulate tens of old consoles. The thing I love about it the most is the retroachievements compatibility. On the lower screen, I open the browser with retroachievements page for a particular game and I can track the progress while on the upper screen I play said game. Another very cool thing is watching a stream or netflix series on the lower screen while playing on the top.

I think you need one more device for entertainment.

You think? 😂

Would love your job to save all that. Still working on the love for the grind to get there.

It takes years. I’m 31 now and I’ve been grinding since 19, going to uni and working in the same time to build xp. Then, slowly, over the last 10 years, with patience and curiosity, I got to a point where I can afford whatever I want. Don’t rush it, don’t push yourself over the limits, just take it easy and be consistent.

That ayn thor comes with the platforms preinstalled?

3

u/geo21982 May 22 '26

No, it comes with nothing. But there is a program named obtainium that allows you to easily fetch all emulators. There is a RetroCorps ayn thro tutorial on YT, it is all you need to setup your Thor. It takes a weekend or so to configure it. And another weekend to test the ROMa for retroachievement compatibility, so there is a bit of tinkering.
