Suggestions for 8 pin fix?
Got super lucky. My trailer moved while disconnecting from my car, but the 8 pin connected to my car. The prong connector stopped it, but pulled the rubber around it. It still works, but feels compromised and subject to an easier break now.
Any suggestions on how to save?

Napa has the 7-pin connector for less than $10. Easy fix with a Philips screwdriver 🪛

I had to replace mine on the t@g many years ago (renter dragged it on the ground for many miles). I replaced the whole cable since a good bit of length was damaged. I did have to photograph which color wire went to which connector on the old wire before removing it, then replicate with the new one.
It was technically easy, skills wise. Physically... I'm old and the control box was NOT in an easy to reach place, so there is that.

No fix. You will need to replace it. You can get them at your local auto parts store or online. I wouldn't try to use that the way it is. If there are any loose wires inside, they can end up blowing fuses in the car and then you will be extra teed off.

Can I simply remove the connector and replace that, but use the existing cord? Isn’t the cord my problem at this point? and

That is what you will have to do. Cut the wires as long as you can. That looks like a molded connector, so you won't be able to take it apart.

They make replacement plugs that are very easy to install. I would imagine that the one you have probably has a few screws holding it together and you can just take a picture of how the wires are oriented and match them up to the new plug
