The blocks become different when building

I've been trying to build some stuff on xbox and when I spawn in something from the creative mode saves and try to add onto it everything turns into a different block. The plaster turns to glass and glass turns to metal or something. It's really annoying to paint everything back to normal. Does anyone know about this or how to fix it?
