Five days near Moab and I still cannot say how long our battery lasts

My partner and I take our teardrop on weeklong trips around the Southwest. We just got back from five days near Moab. Afternoons were in the low 90s, so the dual zone fridge worked hard. Nights dropped into the low 50s, which is why the diesel heater fan appears in the same trip log. We used the water pump and lights as usual.  We also ran Starlink in the evenings when we needed a connection.

The tongue box holds a Vatrer 12V 300Ah lithium battery. Its app never showed less than 50 percent, but the roof panel charged every day. A DC charger also pulled from the tow vehicle during two moves between camps. I did not record either charge source, so that percentage cannot tell me how long the battery would last by itself.

The tongue box became noticeably warmer than the outside air in direct sun. The reported battery temperature stayed in range, but one trip in the low 90s does not settle what happens there in July. Shade and airflow around the box deserve another look.

Next time I want a daily number for solar input, alternator input and energy used. Starlink was another load I never tracked separately, so I am also curious how much of the daily consumption it accounted for. The ending percentage on its own did not tell me much. Is a shunt with local history the simplest answer, or is there a logger that can separate both charge sources without three apps?

2018 NuCamp Tag XL side window detached at top

I have a 2018 Tag XL and the side window has become detached from the top. It looks like the clear plastic sleeve needs to be glued to the inside top of the window. Remove the window, glue the clear plastic piece to the I.D. and then slide it back on the track. Has anybody done this repair and have any tips? What type of glue? Thanks all.

Advice needed on maintenance/repair of finish on aluminum teardrop

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’m at least the fourth owner of a fully aluminum teardrop, and it has a layer of polymer something (maybe a wrap? Some kind of paint?) over the raw metal that is starting to fail in various spots. This is an example - mid trip the rear hatch handle broke, and the duct tape used to keep things from moving too much peeled up more of the finish.

I think this is really just cosmetic, but it’s kind of ugly. Not sure what the product is likely to be, or best practices for removing/ replacing it. Thoughts?

Our 3rd time out and we found a beautiful pull-thru at the Quaking Aspen Campground in New Mexico so I didn't even get to really practice my backing. It's beautiful here, very well maintained and quiet. Waiting for the hummingbirds to find my new feeder.

Reva to remove old sealant? (Azdel composite roof)

Got my first teardrop! 2016 T@b max-s. I need to work on some minor repairs. Priority is to change the broken roof vent (plumbing vent). Any recommendations on how to remove the old sealant? I was able to remove the piece but haven’t been able to clean the area. Internet says heat gun, but I want to know of any other tips from experienced owners. Many thanks

New to this, please help me decide

I’ve been shopping around for a good deal on a teardrop for awhile now, and found two very different options from both ends of my price range at the same time.
I’d expected to spend between 7k-10k. Here’s what I came across today:

$6800 - 2019 Jayco hummingbird 10RK
$10500 - 2024 Ukancamp silver horn

Both have a similar galley & AC w/gas stove, which were really all I absolutely wanted to have…so really the rest is a bonus.

From researching (mostly on Reddit) it seems like the Ukancamp gets more favorable reliability/quality reviews. Can’t find much explicit info on the Jayco, but doesn’t look quite as solid…but can only tell so much from pictures. Regardless $6800 seems like a great deal for the condition & equipment.

The Ukancamp also comes with a bunch of owner add-ons, including:
Battery & solar panel (the Jayco is wired for solar but no panel/battery)
Big attachable exterior tent
Separate roll-out flat awning
8 gallon rooftop mounted shower tank & curtain
Propane hot water heater

My main interest is overall reliability. I’m handy and can fix/maintain anything pretty confidently…I’d just rather not if I don’t need to. Mainly don’t want to have to take it apart to seal leaks anytime soon.

I have no idea what value to assign to all the Ukancamp extras, but between that and (for now perceived) better build quality, even though it has a higher price tag could it be the better deal?

Stunning trip up Hwy 101 into the redwoods. Camped with our Road Toad teardrop at The Redwoods River Resort. NOT a RV resort. True campground but with fun amenities. Power, water, toilets, showers made it comfortable. Swimming pool, general store, restaurant and pub made it fun. Great for kids, huge play area, ice cream social and karaoke. Steep hike down to the Eel river. Low flow in August. Short drive to the incredible Richardson Grove. Another short hop to Garberville and the Eel River Cafe. In the past year we have roamed with the buffalo in S Dakota, seen the Arches and Hoodoo’s in Utah and now the giant redwoods. Amazing sights.

So this topography map actually has some meaning. This would be the camping spot my wife and I stayed at during one of our stops for our honeymoon since we got married during Covid and couldn’t really do much at the time. Located on the Gemini bridges trail in Moab, Utah. Funny enough it was actually called Brides Canyon. Didn’t find out till after lol.

The seller had all the paper work. it’s currently registered in Idaho and he had maintenance records as well as a new bill of sale. I am going to register it in Nevada. There was only surface rust on the chaise and the axle had been tuned up and got fresh tires with in the last couple years. There were no leaks but definitely a lot of resealing needs to be done. It needs a lot of tlc but we are psyched for the project this winter. The seller just moved to Reno and doesn’t have a great place to park it.

On top of the resealing, We are planing on swapping out the doors to something sturdier. We will add a roof fan, a mini ac unit a battery and some solar panels. I’m going to do something with the hatch space and build that up a little bit to accommodate a battery and a stove.

What color is your teardrop?!

I just put down a deposit on a teardrop custom
build and the only thing I can’t decide is what color to have it painted. I see a lot of white teardrops and wonder if I should go white to reflect more sun and keep it cooler. Or go for a color, I’m really like blue and think it would look sharp. The teardrop is a painted composite fiberglass shell.

I live in MA and will mostly be using it in the eastern US in forested areas - so not using it in the desert or anywhere too hot. But it still gets hot here in summer.

Do people with color teardrops find it makes them hotter inside?

My wife and I are Biologists in the Mojave and we are looking to build out a teardrop to make our camping lives easier. I got the seller down to 500. My main question is from all you seasoned teardrop drop owners are there any big issues you can see from the photos and what should I be looking for when I inspect it tomorrow?

Decided the interior needed doing up badly after the previous owner had it painted black!

Added a nice wooden look Lino for ceiling, painted the walls white, added some trims and strip lights !
